In this video I try the famous DiLorenzo’s Tomato Pie, since 1947, still family owned, since original owner Chick DeLorenzo, who was the student of Joe Papa of Papa’s Tomato Poes. The two establishments are on the same street and have formed a reputation for inventing the Trenton style pizza, the tomato pie!

I still watch pizza review videos and keep watching your reviews, too. But since I got my Ooni Koda 16 in July, I've never eaten outside again, and my backyard turned into the local pizzeria. The Koda 16 allows me to make NY and Neapolitan style pizzas on a high pro level. In order to bake NY style it requires a tiny trick to reduce the flame to ultra low, but with that secret trick you can make the best NY style pies of all time. Btw, I use San Marzano tomatoes that I crush myself.

One thing to mention that's easy to confuse: DeLorenzo's Tomatoe Pies in Robinsville and DeLorenzo's Pizza in Trenton are related but not the same thing. It's older than Delorenzo's Tomato Pies but it looks more like Papa's.

Loved Papa's cheese and sauce, but I liked the DeLorenzo's crust better.

Always been intrigued by DeLorenzo’s. Only got to try Papa’s, so will have to do a comparison of the two one day

The two places are supposedly connected. Chick DeLorenzo worked for John Papa and then he eventually went his own way like so many other Pizzaoila's did, from Pepe's to Lombardi's and more. They both call their pizza tomato pie but are very different. I like them both for different reasons.

Made the Robbinsville pizza tour, I love it! Glad you like the pies man, I personally enjoy Papas more but this a close second for me.

One of the best known in south NJ. Agree though they could improve crust and is a bit too thin. If they made a couple easy changes..easy 9.3. Barstool went a little to high...he loves that thin harder crust type. Very fair review.

Glad you think it was a fair score, I do value a nice crispy pizza but it's got to have a slight fluffy center toward the back at least. Yeah, Portnoy loves Bar pizza, which makes sense being that he's from Boston. Thanks again for the input Jimmy.

@@danlivni2097 Not quite sure these. days. Locally since I grew up in Elizabeth NJ..have to mention Satillos..in the mix. So many in NYC never went to expect Johns on Bleeker..which is way up there. Hear New Haven CT is great. So a lot to try...just not as many as back in 70s amd 80s that I can find in NYC area. Ok tc.

Going through your channel's videos today, I see that I somehow missed this one. That definitely looks like a pizza I'd like. I like my sauce on top, and not overly seasoned. I usually just add one crushed garlic clove and a pinch of sea salt to my sauce, and maybe a pinch of oregano. I prefer the other flavors to come from the seasonings I add directly to the pizza. I would definitely miss the lack of seasonings on this pizza, but I'm sure it's still excellent. My crust can get that hard crunchy back end if I let it go longer in the oven, but that's not how I prefer it. This place has quite a reputation, and I'm sure it's for a good reason.

Yeah, I was considering going to Philadelphia afterward but it was raining steadily all day. It took me 45 minutes from Staten Island.

I didn't have a problem with the outer crust being too hard. You ordered it well done; it comes out fine the way they do it. The town is weird like an Italian Truman show set. I like the free parking in the back of the mini mall square.

It's one of those original Italian immigrant areas. And still one of those areas where Italians move to when they leave NYC. When I went years ago I was surprised to see so many Italian salumerias everywhere.

A good one for a rewatch. That crust is interesting. The lack of aeration in the rim is undoubtedly a contributing factor to the lack of pliability, although I'm sure the fact that it was well done exacerbated that issue as well. Overall it looks like a pretty unique pie to me, and I'm sure it's got a cult following for good reason. Now I've got to rewatch the Papa's Tomato Pies review.

Flavor was excellent for this pie. It's tough to see the tightly aerated air pockets the thinner the crust gets but it was very light. I would pick the Papa's pie over this one if I had to choose. If i lived in the area I would definitely go to DeLorenzo's once in a while though for a change.

Angelo's in Philly? No comparison at all, two completely different pizzas. My next review will be Papa's, that's a better comparison...or Santillo's. It's Jersey style.

Yo Ant, Another Spectacular Video. De Lorenzo’s Is Top Notch, I Think You Made A Mistake When You Ordered It Well Done Though. All The Times That I Have Been There I Just Order It The Regular Way And It Always Comes Out With More Than Enough Char, So If You Ever Go Back Order It The Regular Way, I’m Sure You’ll Enjoy It Better. That’s Just One Of The Hidden Gems Over In That Area, As You Well Know Papa’s Is Not Even A Half Of Mile Around The Corner, But Right In That Same Complex That De Lorenzo’s Is In You Have A Really Good Asian Restaurant, & Then The Star ⭐️ Of The Show Is The Italian Market “Dolce & Clemente’s.” What A Place, One Stop Shopping For All Of Your Italian Needs!!! The Italian Hoagie “The Italian Special” Is Special! 6 Different Italian Meats, 2 Different Cheeses, Fresh Mozz, & Provolone, A Beautifully Tasting Balsamic Vinaigrette, Just An Amazing Sandwich! I actually enjoyed the crust, but perhaps you're right. Next time! Papa's was my fav of the two, but slightly. DeLorenzo's crust with Papa's sauce and cheese, we're talking mid-9's potential.
