68-year-old tenor Placido Domingo sings the aria "La dolcissima effige" from the Cilea opera Adriana Lecouvreur (with some of the following scene as a bonus). From a performance with Russian soprano Maria Guleghina from February 2009. This was Domingo's last run of Adriana Lecouvreur performances of his career and probably his last standard rep Italian tenor role. He debuted in the baritone role of Simon Boccanegra later the same year. Marcelo Alvarez was initially supposed to be the Maurizio but Domingo stepped in for him when Alvarez ended up doing Il Trovatore instead. Domingo was originally going to be the conductor for the run.

Wonderful memories! Thank you! It is a pity that the MET did not record this for DVD. After all, it was a historic performance! Plácido's career in NY actually started out with Adriana in 1968, when he also had to step in for Corelli, who had cancelled in the very last moment. Plácido was scheduled to do his debut some days later. But when they called him, he rushed to the MET and had his very first success there. Many, many should follow, and he is still going strong, now at 2013! Bless him!

Only the outside of him got old. His voice got a little more tremulo, a bit more mature. But listen to him project... he doesn't sound "old"... amazing....
