Plaisance is the southwestern quarter of the 14e arrondissement in Paris containing Notre Dame du Travail, Place de Séoul, and a public section of the Petite Ceinture park. My name is Jay Swanson - I'm an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa and hoping to make the city of light my home base - at least for the foreseeable future. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlogged daily for 3+ years, and love pizza a little too much.
Links below to Amazon are affiliate links - meaning if you click through them and buy something, I'll get some pennies. Thanks! (The FTC wants me to tell you that up front)
FAQ:
How long have you lived in France? Almost four years now, holy cow.
What do you miss most about ho- NACHOS
You're always talking about living on some ship. WHAT SHIP? - I made a "Draw My Life" video that explains a lot here: • Draw My Life
Where are you from originally? - Pullman, Washington - a small university/agricultural town near Idaho (and yes, the potatoes are amazing).
What do you film with? - I've made a lot of changes recently, but I try to keep my gear list up to date if you want to see what I use and buy some for yourself: bit.ly/JaysGear...
What do you edit with? - Adobe Premiere - it's pretty much all I've ever used since high school.
Aren't you ever freaked out by leaving your camera behind to film yourself? - Yep. But not too badly - I tend to be careful when I do.
Why are you living in #Paris? - Because I've always wanted to; I feel at home here: • Why I Want to Live in ...
Do you speak French? - Oui. • Un Jour en Francais (E...
Do you make money off RU-vid? - Ha, sorta. I wish. It took me over 500 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.
I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? - The easiest and best way to support me is through Patreon, where you can pitch in as little as $1/mo to help me make better videos: / jayswanson
I don't trust this Patreon thing - can I just paypal you? - Here's my ko-fi if that's your thing (and coffee is your game): ko-fi.com/jays...
But I want to send you something tangible! - I do have a wishlist on Amazon, though it's a bit complicated with the international shipping situation. This is the US one: amzn.to/2ykS9Ux
And here's the French wishlist: bit.ly/JaysFren...
Thanks for watching!

That was full of much Plaisances! Also, the music was very danceable. I may have bopped around the kitchen a bit waiting for my coffee to brew this AM. 😊

I often just stare at the masks you have because I think they look so comfortable. I like to sew, so I spend a lot of time trying to think of how to make them myself haha. The one you have at the beginning is my favorite.

I've come to realize just how well we've covered Paris in our ten trips there because this was the first time so far you've explored an area we've been near, or cut through, but haven't stopped at and you've given us so many new things to explore on the next trip with this one! Thanks, man!

Near-perfect convergence of accounts I follow to get a daily Paris fix: you and Paris Adèle on FB. I’ll have to check her album again to see if you show up in any of her pix, starting at the Art Deco-style Metro station of Pernety! At 13:44, you show the hearts and flowers-adorned gate of the former home of Alexandre Mezei, a Hungarian artist. And Adèle was in that beautiful church, too. Those pipe organ horizontal trumpets in your video gave me chills! In the garden, I think you were among a bunch of abelia plants - very bee-friendly! Thank you (and Adèle) for taking me through this quarter of Paris’s 14th today!

Learn something new on my morning stroll in Paris! France’s nickname, Hexagon! Very cool! I feel like Baby Yoda sipping tea and observing all things new. Sigh. And yet people are jogging and doing HITT exercises so now I must run! Thanks Jay! It’s warm in Washington, DC, too! 🌤😅

Went to Montparnasse one day randomly (not a big fan BTW) but started wandering around and found Petite Ceinture. That was super cool. Loved the little streets and small houses. It's a sweet little neighborhood. The rest of it was kinda... meh. Thank you soooo much for doing these Jay!

I first met the "France is a hexagon" when reading the English philosopher J. L. Austin who used the statement to explore what we mean by truth. He wrote: "Suppose that we confront “France is hexagonal” with the facts, in this case, I suppose, with France, is it true or false? Well, if you like, up to a point; of course I can see what you mean by saying that it is true for certain intents and purposes. It is good enough for a top-ranking general, perhaps, but not for a geographer… How can one answer this question, whether it is true or false that France is hexagonal? It is just rough, and that is the right and final answer to the question of the relation of “France is hexagonal” to France. It is a rough description; it is not a true or a false one. " As this was written in the late 1950s it must have been reasonably well known at the time.

@johncrwarner
@johncrwarner 4 года назад
@@alpaktuna Is that the phrase "France is a hexagon" or the use by the philosopher?
@johncrwarner
@johncrwarner 4 года назад
@@alpaktuna The original comment, by the way, is a reference to the Café Hexagone at the start of the video and Jay's reference to L'Hexagone as a designation for France.
