Until another Ed Wood comes along, there will be no serious rivals to "Plan 9". What I love about Ed Wood is that even if he knew that he was making very bad movies, he didn't let it stop him......... A true artist.

I believe that the tragedy of Ed Wood is that with the right training, backing and and attention to production values, he could have become famous for making very good films. In any case, I also believe that it is an error to take too seriously anything that comes out of Hollywood.

I Love Plan 9 from Outer Space. I've seen it at least 50 times. It is one of the most entertaining movies ever made, and if the purpose of movies is to entertain, it is one of the best movies ever made. Anyone who thinks this is the worst movie ever made should be duct taped to a chair, placed on the window sill of a skyscraper, and forced to watch Warning from Space a thousand times, followed by Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla and Mother Riley Meets the Vampire.

While I saw portions of this movie, I never saw the complete movie till last night on Turner Classics. Yes, it's most horrible in production values and the acting and writing is truly terrible at times, yet it strangely contains some true insight. Ed Wood really got a strong grasp of the UFO phenomenon's impact on the American psyche and our government's attempt to cover things up. Plus you'll laugh at how cheap and tacky the sets and special effects are. It's quirky, sometimes the actors sound competently performing and saying their dialogue, only to realize their lines are ridiculous and the story makes no sense. I still enjoyed it. When I first got on AOL in 1994, I took the screen name Plan9 for about a year. Nobody had it! Three stars.

Ed Wood could really come through in a pinch when they needed special effects too. Need some flying saucers over Hollwood? Just get some guys to dangle hubcaps on strings over a fake model of Hollywood. LOL In 'Bride of the Monster,' just have Lugosi wiggle around with the stolen fake rubber octopus so it looks like it's killing him, because they forgot to steal the motor that made the legs move. Or have Bela wear boots with ridiculously obvious high heels so he looks "atomic and superhuman".

@olvimann ah ok, I stand corrected than... in the Tim Burton version it seemed he died before the movie was set for filming, Bela wanted Wood to make another movie, and anther movie so Wood took Bela's requests and started taking shots for no real purpose and than the movie proposal came to be which was when the chiropractor came into play, I did remember the vampire face covered scene, which was after Bela had died, he was only in the first part of the movie but the footage was about a week old

Vampira was paid 200 dollars for her um "scenes". She only agreed to do it without speaking. She really needed the money because her late night show was taken away from her and because she wouldn't sign the rights away to her character. The network was working on a show called "the addams family" and we all know where morticia adams origins come from now. They should have just used vampira for the role instead of stealing her character and then blacklisting her. Women who were defiant in hollywood back in the day were punished. Not everything was so golden in those years.
