In this episode of PLANE TALK I focus on the Stanley No. 92 Shoulder Plane and what distinguishes it from a rebate or rabbet plane.
A shoulder plane excels in the adjusting of the end grain of the shoulder portion of tenons. Not so much the tenon itself but the visible mating shoulder of the joint.
I hope you found something helpful or at least entertaining.

From the title, I expected this video to be a a review of Stanley's #92-which isn't even mentioned until 3:45. No review, just some commentary about the utility of shoulder planes in general.

I've never heard someone pronounce rabbet rebate. Am I missing something here?

Depends which side of the pond or how old you are. A rabbet (American English) or rebate (British English) is a recess or groove cut into the edge of a piece of machinable material, usually wood. When viewed in cross-section, a rabbet is two-sided and open to the edge or end of the surface into which it is cut. Same thing sort of like Cutter, Iron or Blade... they all mean the same thing. Chip breaker and cap Iron as well. Thanks for watching.
