This is turning the plane into a candy wrapper shape for me, not a sphere. It won't wrap around the whole way without the top and bottom overlapping. Any ideas as to why?

Hi! Can anyone suggest ways to make the origin the center of the resulting sphere? I've tried a bunch of the typical ways, like each option in the "set origin" menu, but it doesn't work and also does weird things like changes the scale of the sphere. (I have applied scale as described in the tutorial.) I also tried setting the transform options to only affect the origin but then moving the origin also moves the location of the geometry for some strange reason. (Fairly new to blender so please be specific, thanks!)
