Living in the desert of Arizona I get super envious of the beautiful cold mornings you are experiencing. Cold weather clothes, seeing your breath, frost on everything... ah. I love the cold weather and I'm constantly trying to convince wife/kids we should relocate to somewhere that has actual seasons instead of hot and a little less hot. Thanks for the great videos, appreciate seeing these every day.

It's wonderful to see Jesse's confidence in and appreciation of Alyssa grow and grow. A few weeks ago (video time) people were taking bets on not whether but _when_ they'd end up splitting up! It's heartening to see that since they took a short break from filming/uploading they appear to have gone from strength to strength. Although I never doubted it for a second. In fact I'm sure someone owes me $10 to that effect! :-)

You should look around at companies that deliver fuel to farms. They'll offer off road diesel and off road gas which means it doesn't have a road tax on it. So you can't use it in your truck to drive to town but it's totally legal to use in your generators and backhoe on your property. It's usually around 25% cheaper and it's delivered!
@common_sense_helps5607
@common_sense_helps5607 6 лет назад
That would mean that they would also need to get a tank as well right? I don't think a company like that would drive out there and deliver anything under 100 gallons right? Or am I mistaken?
@alec4672
@alec4672 6 лет назад
Common_sense_helps Depends on the company. My neighbor down the road has a 500 gallon gas tank and a 2000 gallon diesel tank (farmer of course) so when the delivery man comes to his place I swing buy and get my 55 gallon gas and 55 gallon diesel tanks filled. (Standard pipe thread on a 55 gallon drum so just add a ball valve and tip it on its side.) I think the company he uses is a 100 gallon minium yes but that's "total purchased fuel" so 55 gallons of diesel and 55 of gas I'd be eligible but I don't want to seem like a bother lol.

You both should feel very proud of yourselves, to see young folks work like you two have in the past few months is unbelievable. More young people would have more than they do if they would get up from the computer and actual go outside and indulge in some physical work. You will have many stories to tell your own children and your parents will have to tell their friends. I know they are as proud as can be in all you have accomplished this far and will further accomplish in your work shop. Remember dont push to hard and injure yourselves ...rest is your best friend right now.

At 16 minutes into the video Alisa noticed fraying wood fibers. I think the cause may be the direction she is planing the beam. Notice the growth lines on the side of a beam and take a pass with the planer where the lines are going up hill on the beam side. That way you will be planing "with" the grain. You guys have amazing energy...ah to be young and in love again.

good to see the saga continuing, glad your parents are not camera shy. keep up the great work and look forward to many more video's. i know i commented about solar panels on the roof but you could also use wind and a alternator and or a creek generator, or just build a permanent solar stand on left over posts. would be cool to get a brief sneak peak peak at where you are today on construction but i know you have weeks of video's saved for editing. im definitely watching till the end and then some i always watch your video's daily and look forward to them.

Years ago we had an older tractor and we had many battery issues, was it a battery, was it the generator/alternator? In the end what really fixed the problems was changing the all the battery cables. I believe we had 2 12V batteries hooked in parallel. It was an old diesel Case tractor probably manufactured in the 70's

Basically a diode conducts power in one direction only, when it's working correctly. By the sounds of it the diode in the old alternator was intermittently conducting power in both directions, and it finally died in such a way that it was conducting power in both directions all the time.

The best and easiest way to check an alternator is, put a screwdriver on the face of the alternator pulley when running. There should be a magitizem at the pulley that means the alternator is working. To check the regulator. Check that there is 13.5 or 14.5 at the battery. Thanks for the awesome videos and Life experiences. I live in Spokane and would like stop by, would that be OK? But where are you located at? funnnyfarm

If you need to buy a backhoe, buying a Case is always your best investment. Even if you buy an old 530 from the early 60's you can still find parts for them. I bought a 71 580CK this year and finding parts is not that bad. So, wise choice you made on the 580K. Keep up the great work and you'll have your dream house soon.

Such a tremendously useful series! Am drooling over your great tools & enjoying the valuable education watching you all build your home... But I wince that you're not wearing any safety glasses and hearing protection. That's very risky! With many close calls, all it takes is one split-second mishap to give you cause for regret. Please be mindful of that! All that sawdust and high-pitched blade squealing is unnecessarily stressful on top of a long day's of hard work, also. Just saying... Am so amazed, though, by your perseverance and work ethic!👍 I can think of no deeper feeling of accomplishment...it's so primal what you're doing. Love this and bless you very much!

Just a suggestion. Use a wax candle (clear/white) and scribble (like you would with a crayon) on the base plate of the planer. It helps it to slide over sappy wood. Doing it after every cut should suffice.

A good grade of silicone can by wiped after applying and dry on leaving the surface slippery. Wax will work too. My saw table kept rusting. I cleaned the rust off with sandpaper and wire brush. Silicone helped to prevent rust but the last time I put a two coat of polyurethane on it. It worked great. Hasn't rusted since.
