Layout planning videos appear to be few and far between on youtube - lots of playlists starting at the baseboard building stage, and some including footage of software such as 'Anyrail', however, this is my system for building layouts.
The first step is gathering reference photos, trying out different plans, and eventually coming up with a final plan to take forward. It's not the most exciting video, but one of the more important ones to watch, especially if you're new to model railways and not sure how to start! This layout is Corris themed, and doesn't include any points/turnouts, but the theory does not change if you wanted them.
I mention a book called the 'Small Layout Design Handbook' during the video by my friend James Hilton. This is an invaluable addition to your library, so do try and get a copy if you can.
