I'm so excited to finally begin sharing with you all my plan for the exterior makeover! I'm even more excited to put this plan into action!!! I've been wanting to paint my house since DAY 1! In this video we are going to test lime wash swatches, firm up on the color story for the exterior, design the walkway +MORE! Just a suggestion, for the gravel walk way I would go with a larger stone. I work in construction and we do a lot of that 89 gravel and pea gravel and a couple weeks later we are having to come back out and remove it because people complain about it being tracked into their houses. Just a suggestion.

Neither camera could pickup on the suddle differences in the whites. The upper left is white white. The upper right is a lil creamy white. The bottom one has tanish-sometimes pinkish- undertones.

For the walkway, you should do a combo of gravel and pavers. Gravel is hard to walk on and it ruins shoes. You don’t want that for your guests. Also, as someone who has mulch, you’ll need to replace it every year, and it doesn’t prevent weeds most times. Also, it’s hard to blow cut grass, leaves and debris out of mulch because when you blow it or try to rake it, the mulch scatters too.

Re: Mulch - please use commercial grade garden fabric and "double layer" it! We had the side of our house covered with mulch due to it retaining too much moisture and while it looks great and is no longer swampy, our grass has started growing through the fabric.

Gravel is definitely the better option. Allows water flow and easy to fix. Plus I love the sound when you step on it

There is a lot of maintenance with gravel. Weeding, losing gravel, adding more. Did i say weeding? It would probably be better to sink pavers-gladstone, blue stone, or the pavers from Lowe's that are around $1.50 a piece. I'm on my way to Lowe's now for some for my garden bed.

Did you consider pavers for a walkway, there are sands that hold them in place much like a grout would.. Gravel tends to wash away. Replacement could become expensive.

Please don't go with the gravel, it's hard to walk-on, not shoe friendly especially hills, it get into your lawn even with trimming, grass grow right through it which leads to extra work, rain washes it away, you has to constantly add more and replace, it discolor and grow lime which will cost more money in the long run, most importantly it don't look good and it will bring down the value of the house, I know everything is getting higher by the day but seen like you can get concert poured way cheaper than $4k, I got a 20×20 ft area poured under my deck for $1k a few months ago, if you can't find anyone cheaper, lay down stone walking blocks or skip the brick painting because it's beautiful or at least for now and put that on the concrete, please no gravel❣

I’ve already ordered it boo! The gravel is happening 😍 at the end, I talk about how I’m gonna keep it contained bc like you mentioned, I don’t want it to spill over :) thanks so much loveeeeee! I’m gonna keep all this in mind though, the one I’m getting is very fine, like pebbles so I think it’ll be easy to walk on! 💕💕

Now that I can see the entire exterior of the home, I love the existing brick color.. maybe just paint the shutters black and power wash the brick.. and I love the color that’s currently on the door

You could rent a small cement mixer. Set your wood form and pour it. My husband and I did it ourself. Buy your cement at Home Depot. Usually about 4 inch deep sidewalk. It won’t cost $4000.

@@YoungLadyBusiness mulch is inexpensive but SO MESSY and u hv to keep replacing it...where as buy bags of pebbles/marble chips from Home Depot are like $5 a bag. It's a little more costly but last forever & no mess. We lined our walkway SIDES w/pavers from Walmart dug a shallow pathway placed pavers in. This also holds the pebbles in place. Don't forget to put either landscape fabric OR cardboard down to prevent weeds from growing thru the pebbles. 👍

I really think the first color you put is the best. It's bright, true white, with no yellow undertones, and over time would look the best. I also think that sage green used on your kitchen door would compliment the colors choices you choosing, it's stands out, at the same time very subtle, and something you wouldn't get tired of. I think your color palette should be white- house, green -sage door & inter trim sage as well, Outer trim Black example shutters, planters pots, mulch, gutters on house

Be sure to pick "evergreen" shrubs. You'll regret not doing that in the winter when your landscaping looks all dead and brown lol. Also look into rubber mulch. It may not attract bugs and will last forever.

I like option 1 with the pink door. You might want to do a slightly darker shade on the shutters so there is contrast and your house doesn’t appear flat.

I used black mulch all around my house and other planting beds and haven't had any bug issues. The mulch is treated so you don't need to worry about it. I like the mulch so much better than pine straw.

K-noooooooo to the pink. The gravel option is a great idea. I did a circular gravel area around a pole in my yard that holds a birdhouse on top. I used a rubber edging from home depot that went int the ground and held the gravel marble and stone mix I used. I also laid on top of the grass this paper plastic material so that the grass would not grow up through the gravel. I then purchased some 12 by 12 square patio blocks and angled them in diamond shape and placed layer them out and filled with gravel all around them for people to step on. I edged it all with white bricks.

When planting the shrubs .....check out the sun ...how much sun is in the front and how much shade and that’s how u buy shrubs plant or flowers......also check out the width and height of the shrub you buying......if you buy any roses buy knockout roses cause they are easy to grow but more expensive.....and great job on your house..it’s so beautiful and comfortable....love that black entrance way..I had no idea it would that great👍🏽

Regarding your walkway: gravel is a very good way to save on cost and still make it look esthetically pleasing but a good rain will make you regret it. I suggest to include pavers. A medium sized precast stone that can be arranged in a cute pattern that gives you a drier, more stable walking path that would loook great with the lime wash, mulch and/or pine straw. So far, all your choices are great. Thank you for sharing you journey. Loving it.

Its your home so I hope you love whatever choice you end up on!! I personally love the original brick color but the warm white will be cute! I would say go grey on the shutter and the front door would look STUNNING in that sage you used on your kitchen door!! Also with the gravel maybe do pavers in the gravel to walk on? Gravel will tear up your shoes and isn’t to comfy to walk on long term lol. Love how your home is coming along! 🏡

Just for thought. Building your roof out over the front door would add character to your beautiful home. A shade of blue with option one a black door would be nice 😊 You’re doing great!

The beauty of brick: It is practically maintenance free, once you paint it you now have maintenance. You also have a home that is drastically different from the other homes in the neighborhood if the other homes are the original brick (resale problems and irking the neighbors, maybe)! I personally would not paint the brick. I would do the landscaping and walkway. I say this because over the years I have paid thousands of dollars to paint the exterior of homes, finally in my older years I have an all brick because I didn't want the cost of maintenance. Other things to consider: Georgia has a LOT of pollen and it will not take long for the white paint to be yellowish. Also, when it rains the dirt will splash up on the side of the home, good landscaping to hide the dirt on the bottom of the home will be a must! Wishing you the best!

I can't even believe I'm voting on this. I hate painted brick...but when you swatched them I am really liking them. Like you said you can't go wrong with any of them.. I like option 1 with the dark pink door....I think the lighter one doesn't stand out. I'm so excited for you. I purchased rubber mulch from Sam's Club and can't wait to use it.

I have a gravel on my property as well. Swatch number two and pink door 👍🏽. Be careful about the mulch close to your house because you don’t want termites. If you’re going to use it just don’t have it up against your house. Coming along nicely.

It’s good that you’re going to do it yourself. You can do it. 👍🏽These people are charging way too much money to do a job now and I don’t know if it’s because of the pandemic. I ended up tiling my backsplash myself I was not paying for that especially when we had all equipment here. Anyway I think the shutters would pop in black.

Option 2 is nice. Option 3 looks like a dirty white. I will be here for either because you have a good eye for decorating. I loooovvveee what you have done so far! Your house looks amazing and it looks homey! Great work!

Love option two. BTW the trim quote seems really pricey I’m thinking they see a sweet YOUNG lady and the dollar signs appear. Maybe think about letting your dad or other male get the quotes for you....I know it’s not fair but hey it may work to your benefit 💕

My hubby and I are building a house, it should be done soon and we have been thinking of landscape ideas as well! We love the look of mulch, but like you said the bugs. So we actually are looking into rubber mulch. It’ll last 10-12 years and is great for water flow as well. Maybe just a suggestion since you like the look of black mulch 😉 Super excited to see this transformation 💕

Thanks for this suggestion. I have black mulch and the bugs aren’t an issue but I hate how fast the color fades. I was considering rocks but the rubber mulch might be better for my plants.

I’m hoping the rubber mulch works out for me too, and that Kayla gives it a try if she sees this. It seems like it works well for you guys! I’ve read a lot of good reviews about it. I love that it won’t attract to many bugs, fade in color and that I won’t have to worry about changing it for a while. I also love that it won’t suck up the water like regular mulch would, so that any plants or flowers I put down can grow at it’s best 😊

I would go for Avario with darker grey shutters and sage doors. If they have to be blue or pink, then pink would be my option.

I vote for option #2 with the pink door and black mulch. I love the aesthetics of black mulch although it has to be refreshed every year

The gravel will look very very attractive but keep in mind as time goes by they will need to be replaced because they will start sinking into the soil

you could pull up the red tiles that are falling off the steps and put in some pretty patterned outdoor tiles and paint the rest of the stairs the color of the house

Hey Kayla! That’s crazy. $4,000 quote for a concrete walkway. We got a quote to do a full basketball court in our backyard for $2,000. I would definitely get other quotes.

@@YoungLadyBusiness maybe also look into decomposed granite. It’s much cheaper than cement but is a bit more solid than gravel
