The past couple of months I have been nurturing this sad Hoya carnosa compacta. See where it is now!
RU-vid SUBSCRIBE: bit.ly/2GdU0QS
When I saw this sick little vine on the Lowe's clearance shelf, I knew I had to try and bring it back. Hoya carnosa compacta is a really popular plant with its unique crinkled leaves and modern looking vines, this plant is a show stopper.
Hoya carnosa care is simple. They like fast draining soil and bright indirect light. They can handle some neglect which make them a great houseplant for those who aren't always on the ball when it comes to watering.
When I first picked up my plant rescue, I wasn't sure it was going to make it. It was cased in a weird green floral sponge that hand't seen water in days. The leaves were super wrinkled and crying out for water.

It was planted in floral foam ! Had you soaked the whole base in water for about 20 mins, it would have come away easily. The roots still look very viable & I'm sure the plant will recover well. :-)

Hi Rae, do you know much about these plants? I bought a beautiful one from a florist who thought it was about 10 years old as he got it from a gentlemen’s garden, but I think they cut off the end, will it shoot out new growth from elsewhere or is there anything I can do to make new growth come out from anywhere else? I love these and have a few, my smaller ones are all growing well from the tip.

next time first soak that green thing, it'll make it soft. That way it will be easy to carefully peel it off and not damage the roots. At least, this counts for most of them but I also once had one that was pretty much just plastic and my only choice was to leave it on or just cut the stem and make it grow roots from scratch :( But this one looks like the one you could soak.

I don’t understand what the problem is it’s just in green foam that breaks right off you can even put the foam in water and the plant will continue to grow roots you could even just stick that green foam in soil and the roots will grow right through it

Wow! Thanks for this video. Last year I went to Lowe's and bought 2 of the same vase and Hoya Hindu Rope plant for $1 a piece. I had to cut off the top of the vine, since it was dead. I also gently broke off the green styrofoam off and soaked the roots. I used the same vase. It is great for rooting tall cuttings. Both of mine came right back and I repotted them together. They are doing great. 😎

I have one of these and the top of the plant has a little brown part that looks dead. I would say maybe half an inch of brown. Do I have to cut that piece off for the plant to grow?
@hpeteacher9445
@hpeteacher9445 4 года назад
@@annaford8539 That is exactly what I did. The roots were glued into floral foam and when I took it off of them, some roots were damaged. I had to propagate the roots in water. Took a long time to root. Then I potted up in soil. Took awhile to start to grow. I did cut off the top section, since it was dead. It was either over or under watered at Lowe's. Have you tried Miracle Grow Orchid Spray? My Hoyas love it. I got that idea from Nicole from My Clean Leaves. Good luck and let me know how the plant does. 😎

Thank you for this video! I had ordered and received two cuttings about a month ago now. One cutting is doing very well, but the other has been slowly going downhill. I just took it out of the soil and the roots are not good at all, so I stuck it in some water. I love this variety of Hoya, so hopefully it can be saved!

so will the leaves where the bare stem is ever grow back? Right now my Hoya CC has lost basically all its leaves. I am wondering if the leaves will not grow back, will cutting the stems off with no leaves encourage the plant to make new stems to grow leaves on. Also, is it possible to snip the tip of the bare stem and put it in water (to hopefully grow roots, of couse) and then pot it? if the stem beneath a node grows roots after planting, will it grow new foilage? thanks for your help!!!

I would definitely straigtaway plant it in potting soil after getting rid of the propagation foam. And then put them in mini greenhouse or propagation box to increase humidity for at least 1 month before acclimated it to the house so that the plant only stress once instead of two stressful transition.

Hoya carnosa is its own breed, that's like saying Hoya carnosa pubicalyx. It's either a carano, Australa, pubicalyx, not both. The hoya carnosa is the most common where they pubicalyx (also know as the black dragon) is more rare. The Hoya australa (I think I'm spelling it wrong) is also a bit more of a rare breed. The shooting star hoya is even more rare.

My Hindu rope each 5 ‘ long and took 4 of such out of pot and out all in a leather community pot about 3 months back . Now I noticed dehydration taking place . Not sure if they did not like media. ? Media was not succulent type. It’s more of coco chips charcoal and coco peat based a media . Should I repot with Hoya types media ? Or they are fine in that media but need more water . We are having very dry day . My vandas are socked early morning and spray more two times a day . Humidity only 34% while temperatures is 38 C Plz suggest me now !!
@SuburbanSill
@SuburbanSill 4 года назад
What does the dehydration look like? Wrinkles leaves? You may want to try mixing your coco chips and coco peat with some succulent soil or all purpose...that might help it with a little more water. Just make sure it drains well.

The dehydration looks like wrinkle the leaf !!

@@HamimChowdhury ok...maybe just give it some time. If you just watered and watered thoroughly...until the water ran out the bottom. Maybe give it some time and see if the leaves fill out. if after a week or so you don't see a change, water again. Make sure and give it some time in between watering so your roots don't get soggy.
@HamimChowdhury
@HamimChowdhury 4 года назад
SuburbanSill ohh yes the media is charcoal so the water run off fast . I also think it might need some time as I over watered it . I am concerned about it’s spike . There might be other reason is As the plant pushes out spike to she is pulling back all her energy / nutrition from leaf as such leaf getting yellow . Could be a reason. One suggest to cut off the new spike to get the plant get it Settled .. let’s finger X

First thought, check your light situation and maybe move it to a new spot. Perhaps pull it out of the pot and check the roots...change the soil and pot it back in the same pot. Use an orchid bark type soil. Might be worth trying a light fertilizer...something natural so you don’t shock it too much. Make sure it’s on a regular watering schedule and give it some bright light. See if that will force some growth.
