Ouch! I’ve just recently recovered from plantar fasciitis. I started getting symptoms last September. I tried the exercises, frozen water bottle, otc orthotics and nothing worked for months. Finally went to my primary care Dr who sent me to a podiatrist. After pill form of anti inflammatory for 3 weeks and little relief, I had one cortisone injection. Finally I have relief. I can’t believe it took from September to June to get relief. The pain is excruciating. You really can’t imagine how bad it is until you’re living with it. Thank god for podiatrists!!! ❤️

I was diagnosed with this in both feet in my late 40s, then also had Morton’s neuroma, metatarsalgia and arthritis. I wore custom orthotics for about 5 years, then Birkenstocks about 6 or 7 years. I since switched to zero drop foot shaped shoes (on the advice of my sport’s medicine dr.) stretched out and separated my toes and am now symptom free. I spend most of my time barefoot, wear flip-flops all summer and Altra’s all year round when I have to wear shoes. I roll my feet out with a golf ball during the occasional flareup (once a year or thereabouts). I am now 70

I had it for years with no relief and finally listened to my sister who has flat feet like mine. All she did was switch to wearing nothing but CROCS. Since buying my first pair I've never had pain again unless I was home in bare feet too much. I have always slept with my feet off the end of my bed so that was never an issue. Tried all these things you mentioned and none helped till I bought CROCS.

Thank you Doc for your advised. I'd been diagnosed with plantar fasciitis just yesterday. I'd been feeling the pain for almost a month and i just ignored it because i have a high tolerance with pain i guess. But yesterday was the severe pain i had encountered that led to me see a Doctor. Now i am taking a medicine and put a cream to reduce the pain. I will come back to see my Doctor after 10 days. Hope and pray that everything went well.

I was first diagnosed with PF in 1994. I was treated with anti-inflammatories and fitted with custom orthotics (which were made really good back then - I still have them). It took several weeks for inflammation to go down, but with wearing the orthotics religiously, I didn’t suffer another flare-up until 2020. Yep, staying home and spending my days barefoot or in house slippers the first year of the pandemic (totally forgetting about my orthotics for 6-8 months) caused the pain to recur after all those years! Back to the podiatrist; treatment of better, more supportive footwear (he recommended Hoka One One shoes), anti inflammatory meds, new custom orthotics … and eventually, corticosteroid injections. That was about 24 months ago, and I had to get a 2nd injection in one foot. I’m very consistent about wearing my orthotics now, and put my still usable 1994 orthotics in my slippers. No serious foot pain since then. PF is absolutely no joke. 😢.

Thanks for this video. I first developed plantar fasciitis living in DC walking in flipflops to and from the metro and the office. Stopped doing that and paid attention to my shoes. After several years of a sedentary lifestyle, I've recently recommitted to walking everyday. Sometimes around the block but mostly on the treadmill due to weather. My plantar fasciitis has come back. I just ordered a new pair of shoes, fingers crossed. I'm not going to give up walking again, I've already seen the benefits, minus the heel pain.

The podiatrist gave me a 3/4 length arch supports, that did the trick. I had flat feet. The arch support reshaped my feet. I've periodically had metatarsal pain also, forefoot. Went to the running store and picked up a high quality orthotic with metatarsal and arch support. A good quality cushioned shoe can make walking more comfy. I wear Oofos slip ons around the house and Hokas when walking. My feet feel better than ever.

I have always been flat footed. As a child I wore supportive shoes (Oxfords) fitted with arch supports. In my 40s, after years of wearing "cute" shoes, this problem flared up. It remained with me for a number of years. It was so disabling! As an educator, I was on my feet a great deal and was often in tears by the end of the day. I went through almost all the non-invasive treatments discussed in the video, including orthotics, night splints, massage at home, injections (excruciating and traumatizing!) and physical therapy. One day after many sessions of PT, an intern worked on my foot. It was like a MIRACLE! Immediately, the pain stopped and never came back! I've ditched the orthotics since then and haven't had a problem in 20 years. My shoes of preference are sneakers with a good sole and stable heel. I wear them 99.9% of the time. It seems that I'm back to "square one"! I can hear my parents saying, "I told you so!" 😊

I’ve had massive pain in my heel for YEARS and just ignored it. Every morning walking out of bed was brutal. I finally saw a doctor and was diagnosed with a heel spur and plantar fasciitis. In the 18 months of treating it I have done two cortisone injections, orthotics, anti inflammatories, night splints, and physical therapy. I think I ignored it for so long that I am going to need the plantar fascia release procedure. I go to find out in 2 weeks. I just want the pain to go away! I hope this last resort works and won’t have any lasting side effects!

The only thing that worked for me was strengthening the muscles of my lower leg and feet. Suffered with this in both feet for 4 years straight. Nothing worked, literally. Sometimes the pain was ungodly and other times it was manageable but most times it was excruciating. Immobilization boots, casts, injections, anti-inflammatories, hundreds of dollars worth of orthotics and shoes, bed rest, nothing at all. I was standing for 40 hours a week, a little overweight and completely flat feet genetically. It was horrible. There were mornings where I could not bear weight on my feet and would fall from the pain. And then I got those overnight foot braces that keep the plantar fascia extended while I sleep and it made all the difference in the world.

I was originally admitted to Hospital on a false diagnosis of knee infection after a total knee replacement in Lithuania. Microbiology never found anything in the aspiration and wash out of the knee the Poole Hospital consultants took. I have the reports. I may or may not have had Planter Fasciitis. Or it could have been crystals forming in my foot. I have had it in both. The last time in Poole Hospital with quite a few consultants around. Let's say a nurse gave the diagnosis of Planter Fasciitis. Listening to your video I am almost certain I have not. I cleared it up with ice packs on the bottom of the foot and top. There is a dedicated "sock" with pockets to hold the ice packs. The consultants were not very good in Poole Hospital I spent 2 weeks on IV antibiotics then 6 weeks on oral antibiotics. for a non existence left knee infection. For the 8 weeks my CRP went up and down. On returning to Hospital for a final appointment I mentioned to a junior consultant that the antibiotics were not working as my CRP was going up and down. With this I was given another blood test and readmited again (CRP was 180)_ I was on crutches barely able to walk. I was the diagnosed with CPPD and prescribed colchicine. Took one tablet on returning home the following morning I woke up in no pain.. I still had the pain in my groin I originally consulted the Doctors about. My normal GP gave me blood test and told me it was 99.99% not cancer and informed me it was a muscle strain. I consulted a second GP in my practice who x-rayed my hips and informed me my hips were fine. Then told me it was a muscle strain. 2nd GP also informed me to stop taking Pantoprazole as this could cause joint pain. Then told me to go away. I saw a out of hours GP in Poole Hospital who told me I had a "Hernia" and returned me to my GP. I saw a 3rd GP in my practice who was unsure!! and prescribed a ultrasound scan. I also saw a Private Consultant General surgeon. £150. The Ultrasound scan and the private General surgeon stated I had a hernia. Which I am going to have fixed privately on the 11th July. Coast £4K. Considering the hernia on the other side was diagnosed by a nurse I have a poor opinion of these GPs. And I had grown sensitive to Pantoprazole. On the information sheet size 18" by 30" filled with 2 mm font on the back side left hand column it states may cause joint pain. If it affects your walking consult your Doctor. I am now feeling a lot better with a little joint pain in my big toe right foot and index finger main joint.

Yes, it's a very hard life, but I'm still working 6 days a week, about 12 to qm14 hours a day. My doctor referred me today for an x-ray and ultrasound, both feet for comparison. Hopefully, that can help diagnose then treatment .unfortunately, not working hard is not an option for now. The pain and the burning sensation are very uncomfortable. Thanks again for taking the time to help us. God bless you all.

Mine is almost completely gone after suffering for a few months. I bought a harness on Amazon that you wear at night and it didn't really do anything. Neither did the foot stretches and big toe stretches. I finally noticed that my calf on the side with the PF was really really sore and kind of tight and so was the bottom of my foot. So I started rolling the foot with a tennis ball on the floor. OMG that hurt so bad. I also rolled the calf with a hard foam massager. Those 2 things are what is working. So for me it's more of a calf problem because that seemed to make the most difference. I hope this helps someone.

Had it in one foot when I was in my late 30's...as a Light Infantry soldier you can imagine that's a problem. Steroid injections along with laying off running and doing just rucksack marches for a few weeks actually resolved them thankfully and haven't had a resurgence since the early 90's. Really enjoy the breadth of your topics...bad news is I can relate to too many of them! ☹

After watching your video I realized that I when I would sleep on my stomach the top of my foot is facing down on my bed causing my plantar fascia to be in a restricted position for several hours or more so when I wake up and get out of bed I'm now trying to stretch out my plantar fascia which was causing much pain. I also read that there is a nerve in that area which I had been pinching. I ordered a night splint but before it had arrived used one of my high top sneakers to sleep in which kept my foot at a right angle and slept with that on and noticed a 100% difference. Thanks much, keep up the good work. Everyone's plantar fasciitis is different, you just have to figure out how your's is being caused so that you can correct and treat it. What might work you may not for someone else. Trial and error.

@@jackiemorris5686 Use a wall to brace yourself, or your couch, or anything to help you keep your balance. plant either foot stretched out behind you, and then cross your other foot over like you would if you were sitting down and you crossed your legs. This simple stretch has not completely made my plantar fasciitis go away, but it's helped greatly. The muscles in our legs are directly connected to how our feet feel and operate, and the same goes for our back muscles in relation to our legs. It's connected. To cure Plantar Fasciitis began buying Vionic shoes and other brands that focused on Plantar Fasciitis and have not had any problems since. Bought a good "walking shoe" for Plantar Fasciitis and have not had any issues for years. Tried sleeping night splinting, (braces) , Cryostretching exercises etc but buying the right shoe - though expensive- did the trick. Yes, Plantar Fasciitis is very painful. Thanks for the video.

I’ve been fighting with plantar fasciitis in both feet for well over a decade. Went to several podiatrist looking for relief or a a fix, with little to no relief. What did, does work for me was going to the Good Feet Store and using their arch supports. Stretching, and wearing good well supportive shoes with the arch supports have all helped. The arch supports make it bearable for me to walk, but the pain never completely goes away, but it’s manageable. Stretching before I go to sleep and before I get out bed greatly helps.

I discovered if, before I ever get out of bed if I would stretch, (straighten out legs while still in bed, then point my toes towards my head, holding that for 5-10 seconds. Do this about 3 - 5 times BEFORE getting out of bed. This has kept it from coming back for me. I do this every day BEFORE I step out of the bed. Try it, you will not regret it! This healed me and keeps it from coming back 😊

Had a small tear of my aphasia, it took me almost 6 months, just because the first treatment is to do XRays and cortisone shots, helped little bit with the pain but after three weeks pain came back …doctor ordered MRI and revealed a2nd degree tear on the middle section of my left aphasia. Did PRP treatment and on the second set started to work better, placed on an air boot for 8 weeks, now had my second MRI and showed inflammation but area healed, still feeling something in there but pain is gone. Am very active in sports, softball, basketball, gym , bicycle, volleyball, swimming 57yrs old everything happened after hit a double in softball, turning fast to second base, felt something hot in my middle section of my foot . It’s has been the worst injury that I ever had. In 2017 and 2021 had two meniscus surgeries for both legs , my recovery time for these two surgeries were about 5 weeks with cold laser therapy.

Thanks for the advise gentlemen. I just started having an issue on my left foot and it's no joke, It's exactly as you describe. My wife had this about a year ago and I thought she was just being a baby, crow doesn't taste so good it turns out. I'm stretching, icing, and using an anti inflammatory cream so hopefully that works. Just out of curiosity do you see a higher correlation between this and bunions? They both seem to be a tendon out of whack situation.

I’ve had PF since I was 7. It was called “growing pains” when I was young. In my 20’s it flared up a lot after running in cleats on hard grass fields and unsupportive cleats (long before orthotics were in vogue). Cortisone shots allowed me to continue playing rugby but only lasted a few days and the shots hurt like hell!! Rest and anti-inflammatories helped a little. Eventually custom orthotics made a difference, but these are crazy expensive and eventually they stopped working. In the past 15 years, over the counter orthotics /inserts have come a long way. Now, after 50+ yrs dealing with this- stretching the lower leg (calf, Achilles tendon), strengthening the lower leg, yoga, and the ice, roller, etc. has helped keep it at bay or address is when the PF flares up. Bottom line- as they say in the vid- there is no one therapy, no one fix AND it takes a long time to get the inflammation to settle down. Consistency and preventive exercise has been the key for me.

Your information text at 4:53 is incorrect. Symptom exacerbation at night is due to the foot being in plantar flexion, not dorsiflexion. Night splints are designed to KEEP the foot in dorsiflexion, because this position actually stretches the plantar fascia.
