Great video, I need to try that for my feet, but I feel like I’ve beat my PF. It got so bad like some of the others’ commenting on here. So what helped me? Stretches in low deep wide squats to stretch out the soleus and achilles, just basically sit in that low squat position ESPECIALLY right after running, don’t wait until after you’ve cooled off. Massaging the heel and underfoot in a very aggressive manner, for example using the thumb and pressing and kneading into the heel. It HAS to be uncomfortable or it won’t work, do this until you feel the tension release, also pressing the thumb, a hard small ball, or your fist’s balled up knuckles into the heel and underfoot, hold it until you feel the tension release and it will release eventually. Doing slow and exaggerated ankle rotations, so that you can feel the tendon that runs under the heel stretch out, as well as the calves. Cold to hot leg baths, or while in the shower, use the hand held and spray your legs/calves with freezing cold water then back to hot, then cold then hot…you get the idea, to get the blood moving and to reduce inflammation. I really don’t like the water therapy part lol so I do that very seldom but I find it’s beneficial, especially after sprinting. I have a terrible time with spraining my ankles, and I think wearing bad shoes and terrible running technique that those were factors in my PF and the start of a heel spur. I stopped running for several months, and worked on my feet. Then spend a pretty penny on Hoka One One shoes, and gradually built up my running distance again. NO foot pain, mild stiffness if I’m sitting too long but such an improvement to have no pain!! You’ve got to massage the hell out of those heels and feet, that it MUST hurt, I mean, be uncomfortable or it’s not going to do anything! Aggressive massage for the feet, great shoes, and improve running/walking posture.

@Jason Smith, this video has nothing to do with chiropractic. He mentioned 'chiropractic' at the end of the video, but the technique he showed us was myofascial release. It looked effective. but if you go to a chiropractor, they're going to try to align the vertebrae in your spine. Most of them probably won't even do this sort of myofascial release massage. Probably better to search for a massage therapist or physical therapist who's willing to use this sort of technique.

I have a professional massage chair that has rollers that go up and down your calves. it is actually painful if your calves are tight but with continued use your calves get soft. Haven't used it in awhile, but got plantar fascitis couple weeks ago. So I used it today and the foot pain is much relieved. You could probably to a store that sells them and try one out to see if it would help.

I thank you VERY MUCH for your video. I'm thinking that I might have the darn PF myself, especially in my left foot. I liked how you address issues of tightness in the foot. I'm trying to avoid the shots. A local friend of me told me that the cortisone shots can make a grown man cry. I watched videos on this and the needles themselves aren't that bad (22 to 27 gauge). I guess it must be WHERE the put the needle at and/or the substance itself being brutal. I myself can almost not even feel a 25g or smaller needle, at least not when I get an IM injection into the deltoid muscle. On the other hand, I am a strong proponent of massage therapy and such. I think I might share this with my local massage therapist. She attempted some massage on my feet, including cupping, but it didn't seem to really help much, if any. I'm currently using some Dr. Scholl's insoles recommended by the Dr. Scholl's kiosk. I am currently using CF430. I think they're helping SOMEWHAT. Again, thank you for this video. May God's peace be with you--in the name of Jesus, but may the PF get transfer to the devil himself--in both feet and multiplied in severity by at least 1,000X ! Maybe give the devil some shoes have INWARD SPIKES to tear up his feet with--and complete with tetanus! May God bless this patient, too--in the name of Jesus! From John Nozum
@MargevonMarge
@MargevonMarge Год назад
It's actually the volume injected that's the real source of pain, 3ml or so which may seem like nothing but it's 1/2 teaspoon or more into what is normally a tight space so the sudden increase in pressure into a solid piece of your foot is what really causes the pain, neither then needle or the medication. As soon as the lidocaine or other local anaesthetic kicks in that pain will go, but as it's done as a single shot with the cortisone mixed in with the local, the kicker is the sudden volume increase. I had shots in the front of my feet for Morton's neuroma but also get PF on and off and have orthotics which do help. I go barefoot indoors though as my cat is always getting stepped on otherwise and I hate having anything constricting on my feet so that probably doesn't help things. Always stretch your calves, no matter what. At least 3-4 days a week, like forever. I try to remember by doing it when I'm brushing my teeth. Electric toothbrush has 4 x 30 second cycles to do your mouth quadrants so I do stretches for 30sec each side and also do about 6-8 ankle raises, holding the wall with the hand I'm not brushing with! Be sure to do both upper and lower calves though!
@MargevonMarge
@MargevonMarge Год назад
Deltoid IM injections are a bit different as there's no bones and fewer nerves there so you don't feel as much pain as the sudden surge of volume expansion in the tight spaces of the feet! For the exercises I mentioned , just look for "Plantar Fascia Standing Heel Raises" and combine that with "Plantar Fascia Standing Calf Stretch (gastrocnemius and soleus muscles)" both from NHS Ayrshire and Arran as they are the simplest to keep doing regularly as a preventative to keep PF and ankle tightness in check. At first though you may need to do more intensive daily routines and also do the under-foot rolling to stretch and massage the plantar fascia themselves but I find the standing calf and heel stretches and raises are something I can keep doing regardless of pain and it helps ensure the calves don't get tight again! Disclaimer - I'm not a podiatrist or physical therapist, but I used to be a pharmacist before chronic illness made me retire from that, so the different types of injections, their volumes and routes of administration is something I do understand, plus I've had personal experience of steroid shot in my feet and had deep IM hormone depot injections when I was younger. The latter definitely did not hurt like the feet ones did! I also have 5+ years experience of PF and Achilles tendinopathy and have seen a physical therapist intensively to help with the feet issues and seen several podiatrists for gait assessment/orthotics etc and found what was easy to manage as preventative exercises ongoing. A lot of people (myself included) usually stop doing daily physical therapy exercises when the acute pain goes away. You do have to keep up the stretching to the calves especially, as otherwise it is bound to recur! I also found the video very interesting re: taping - not something I've tried myself but I will definitely investigate should I have further, more severe PF and refer myself back to see the physical therapist! :) The stretching and massage elements I was already aware of through my own research and experience! I never had cortisone shots for my ankles or PF though, I think you can probably manage without if you see a PT and get appropriate exercises and also suitable orthotic inserts! Hope you find lasting relief!
@JohnNozum
@JohnNozum Год назад
@@MargevonMarge That's interesting how you explained the issue of VOLUME in regard to the shots in the foot. That makes sense. I do know that different areas of the body are limited to how much you can inject into them. I thank you for your explanation on stretching the calf muscles. I've done some massage therapy on myself, pushing inward on the Achilles tendon and had a little bit of success here. I've had 2-3 people mention about rolling my foot over a cold water bottle. I hear that this may need to be done a few times a day. What's really funny is that it's uncomfortably cold only for maybe a half a minute or so. The foot seems to QUICKLY adapt to this, and it's no longer too uncomfortable. I tend to roll on this while watching the news. As for stretching the calve muscles, this is also great for helping to prevent Charlie horses upon waking up. If I catch a Charlie horse coming on, I QUICKLY stretch this, which feels counterintuitive. However, I found it VERY CRITICAL to keep trying to stretch this, for this greatly limits the damage caused by the Charlie horse. It can also knock the resulting pain down by about half. Anyway, may God's pace be with you--in the name of Jesus! As for PF and Charlie horses, may those be transferred to the devil and made at least 10-100 times worse! From John Nozum

I've had a cortisone shot in my right foot 15 years ago. It was the most painful thing ever. The needle to inject the anesthesia was the killer because the Dr kept moving it around through that area. Just horrific. It ended up helping but God, was very painful and I'm a big dude that has decent pain tolerance
@JohnNozum

@@BillBene67 I thank you for sharing your horror story with us. I'm sorry to hear that it was hellishly painful for you getting this injection. That sounds more like something fit for the devil himself--but maybe with a much bigger needle, too!

Excellent research on shockwave for PF. Ultrasound, not so much. As with all approaches, there is a clinical skill in application, too.

Acutely, I took aspirin before bed to alleviate the pain I had walking upon wakening. It works very well (Tylenol did not work as well.) Orthotics for arch support and heel cushioning along with prescribed exercises has made my PF manageable. I cannot be on my feet in footwear without proper support, or I regress. My achilles and calf muscles still feel very tight and I have to work on them daily. I am passing along the aspirin idea to help those who are really suffering until they can get some relief from good footwear and treatment.

This is not medical advice. Explore electrolytes and magnesium citrate and a whole panel. Has anyone released your hamstrings or looked at your body mechanics at as a whole? (top to bottom?). I work with a lot of runners and many refuse to stop running until the issue is resolved or don't accept they can't go beyond a certain mileage. I think it's a great injustice to stop at the knee and not look at stability issues, nutritional, etc. This is a whole body issue.

PRP injections seem to help, basically they drw your blood out from one place, then inject it in the area.

I have extremely high arches, and I think I just developed this condition in my left foot. It hurts like hell just above my arch, on the inside of my foot. I naturally rolled the foot over my wooden cylinder that I use for my hands, helped heaps. I’m rubbing ‘deep heat’ all over my foot, it is giving me some relief, but not much. It came on all of a sudden, I don’t get it. Why does it happen like this???

I soap my feet in Epsom salt. Dansko is the only shoe I can wear but not all day. I have very high arches. My feet feel like they are burning, on fire to the point I take my shoes off for relief. I have had my swell up foot burning cant get my foot out of my shoes.

The heat did not work for me. Icing with a frozen bottle did get rid of inflammation. I did it for 15 to 20 minutes, wearing socks 3 times per day. Go to a podiatrist to get properly diagnosed. Getting proper shoes and orthotics. The doctor can give you exercises to stretch the calf. Do these exercises on both feet. Hope this helps.

I had pf a yr ago. Went to podiatrist, got a compound formula made up by a pharmacist, used it for 2 weeks and it went away. I was supposed to use it for a month. One visit and I had been suffering for like 7 months for nothing. I threw away my new runners as they seemed to be the problem. The podriast got me in and out of his office so fast I thought he didn't really care but I guess I was wrong.

I have this on my right root. I also have trumatic arthritis on the right big toe and can not bend it as much as my left foot. This can be painful at time and makes my toe joint bigger than normal. Would this aggrivate or cause my PF? I did have a tight calf muscle and only had PF since swing jive dancing. (Over year ago).
@rusty1491
@rusty1491 9 лет назад
Massaging & stretching my foot, leg and calf temporarily aggravates my PF. However, using a gel ice pack afterward to reduce the swelling and taking a couple ibuprofen before bed has worked well. I've also been taping my foot every morning and not had major pain. My PF has significantly healed and I hope to start jogging again after a few more weeks of self-treatment.

Nisha Chelaka I just used medical tape and taped it around my heal like they show in the videos. The most relief I got was from stretching my calf and giving myself a deep tissue massage of my foot every night before bed.

After so many years of dancing I never encountered problem's from rehearsal's.run_thru's or live performing. Just two days ago I awoke to this dull pain in my left foot(heel area) that has begun to ...kill me! After research and re-assuring myself that it wasn't something related to Diabete's,Gout,etc. I suspect that it is this ailment. Time to visit a foot doctor here in Los Angeles,Ca who has worked with former dancer's. I wear plenty of expensive ballet flat's and walk up a hill near Beverly hills,Ca for exercise. Now that I have seen how physicians's treat this issue,I have less FEAR over seeking treatment. Time for walking shoe's.......Ouch!

I have very painful lump in middle of bottom left foot. I bought gel pads but they hurt it worse. Are they supposed to be out under lump or are they just for arch suppor
@DrDeFabio
@DrDeFabio 2 года назад
Medial arch supports go under the arch, metatarsal pads go behind teh distal metatarsal heads and neuroma pads go under the metatarsal heads. See a local Sports Chiropractor and get the right diagnosis and pad.

Does that help if you have a Baker's cyst on the back of your knee? I have been diagnosed with plantar fascist issues and also have a tarsal tunnel in my left foot. I had it in my right foot but I had surgery for that one. But I've been having major issues with my left knee and the front above my kneecap. I have noticed that I have a huge lump on the back of it. My feet constantly hurt I have tried orthotics but it just seems to make it more painful. I do have the black brace that they gave me at the foot doctor before but it's kind of dead because the air pump doesn't work anymore. And I've had those graston massages before on my back and those helped so much. So I wasn't sure if that would help my knee pain and help break up the bulge in the back of my knee.

In the kinetic chain the entire body is related mechanically. Finding the cause is the diagnostic issue.
