Your Plantar Fasciitis can be pain free or close to it, with one Gua sha treatment for the calves and FeetThis video shows how to use Gua Sha on the calves and feet to help with Plantar Fasciitis, calf strains, and ankle and feet pain. It is very similar to graston and IASTM and helps release fascial adhesions in the body.
Gua sha is a modality that helps restore health to the body, especially chronic conditions. It also can help a body release chronic pain and injury - I experience it all the time in my own body as well as in my clients . I use it along with my deep tissue massage for best results .
If you want to check out some of the gua sha tools that I use in this vid, you can check them out here.

Who am I and why does that matter to you? I am a certified Massage Therapist, Personal Trainer, and former Pro Athelete that currently has Fibromyalgia and Chonic Fatigue. I experienced many many injuries as an athlete, and now can use that knowledge to help others. I was tutored by an amazing massage therapist and want to share some of these techniques with others. I know how hard it is to find a good therapist that can help you get exactly what you want out of a massage.
I was a successful Spartan Athlete because I knew how to tap into the power of the mind to acheive athletic goals. After a really stressful period, I developed these conditions and my professional career ended abruptly. I spent 2 years in the depths of depression, severe Chronic Fatigue, and Fibromyalgia. I know that it was past trauma that got me into that mess, and know that by using the power of my mind that I can heal. I will never give up searching for ways to be in complete remission - I can't and I won't.
Sometimes I feel like giving up
But i Just Can't
It isn't in my blood.
I've learned so much through my formal and informal education on these subjects, and I want to share it all and help others through their hard times. Feel free to PM me.

I have had painful Planter Fasciitis for 2 years. I have had 2 steroid injections and sent home with no instructions for stretching, massaging or strengthening. I have numerous lumps in my interior calf area and achilles. I started the massage and within 1 week the lumps are almost gone. I think this is the right method to help PF. I also do eccentric calf exercises and stretching daily. Hoping this will keep me from visiting the doctor money machine again. Your gua sha video is exactly what I do.

I broke both my ankles a couple years ago and this video is really ahead of the curve. This is the information I needed when I kept going back to the hospital for plantar facittis. Kelly starrett and natural medicine has been the most helpful thing in my life.
@Zionsedgemassage
@Zionsedgemassage 5 лет назад
Kelly Starrett is great! Yeah traditional western medicine is quite frustrating. I have people all the time on my table that say they were told they need surgery, or orthotics, or pain meds (yeah they didn't). and I'm sorry you broke your ankles. Sheesh. How did you do that.

@@Zionsedgemassage I do motocross and cam short on a landing. the best thing I use atm is something called voodoo wrapping. I'll put it tight around my ankle and then run a minute. does a great job.

I'm so glad that I stumbled onto your video. I had a severe injury to left foot-calcaneal fracture, damage to my achilles, as well as other injuries. My foot/achilles injury resulted with a diagnosis of CRPS, and because it was a workman's comp injury, it resulted in delay/denial of treatments. I was in an AFO and ultimately had a Spinal Cord Stimulator permanently implanted. I was put in an AFO and told that it was a permanent disability. I'm a nurse of over 40 years and have pushed back with respect to having to wear an AFO permanently. Because my injury was a workman's comp injury, I could not use my private insurance. It was a blessing that the CROS diagnosis was not a "compensible" injury (not covered by workman's comp insurane) so i decided to get a 2nd opinion with respect to the CRPS diagnosis and treatment. Long story short, the doctor that I saw specializes with CRPS and other injuries, PM&R, Pain management and worked in the military with those returning from war with various injuries from TBI to burns, amputations, etc. He told me that he did not agree that I had "foot drop", and said that the AFO was doing more damage to my leg. He prescribed PT, using Gastron techniques and other PT therapies. The PT who is treating me has his Ph.D in "movement" and he has accomplished more in the short 3 weeks that he has treated me than I had since my injury in 2011. He uses "pain decentralization", mobility adjustments, and uses Gastron tools. So, my question is with respect to the difference between Gastron technique vs Gua Sha that you use in this video. I would like to learn more about this. I feel that I lost many years (was in a brace for 8 years) as I was told that I needed to accept that I had a permanent disability, but I thank God that I have control of my life again. Thank you and God bless you for sharing your knowledge and for the support and hope you offer to others.

Thank you for the video. I love how we can combine different modalities to help patients heal. That is our ultimate goal. I also think it’s critical that we share where our knowledge came from so that we don’t appropriate any culture or dismiss the heritage and medicine of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The practice of Gua Sha has been used for thousands of years. One may see Sha ( similar to western broken capillaries) on the surface after scraping. This is normal and it’s a sign that you are in the right spot. The color will tell you a lot more about the Sha that presents. In Chinese medicine, one would always end a Gua Sha treatment with Moxa ( pole moxa) so the patient isn’t vulnerable to external diseases. There’s a ton to read about and a plethora of articles on Gua Sha. It works, try it and become educated. Thank you.

Very informative, thank you. I just received my tool today and will be using it for my plantar fasciitis in conjunction with an electric foot massager that I've been using which does a decent job of digging into my painful heel. I was wondering if you thought it would be better to do one before the other?

Hi Dr, can I do this treatment myself if I don’t have access to a qualified gua sha therapist? If yes, are there any videos you would recommend? Which scraping lotion would you recommend? I have had plantar fasciitis on my right leg for the last 7 years. Whenever I squat, I feel a lumpy muscle knot on the upper right calf and it hurts more to lean into my right side. Would gua sha help?

How much pressure do you apply?
@Zionsedgemassage
@Zionsedgemassage 5 лет назад
It's hard to give an exact number because we have all have different pain tolerances, but it's good to kind of look at the coloring as you are going. But you can go with pretty firm pressure. Some fascia is on the surface, and some is in between muscles. If it gets purple and really starts to be tender, I would stop and wait a week to do more.

Gua Sha is sometimes known as spooning because a Chinese ceramic soup spoon is frequently used. The handle makes it easy to treat people too!
