LET'S GOOOOO!!!!!!!! (btw. I can assure you that this IS Ember lol. He's completely changed colour which is normal apparently. He's lost his black and his red/orange is now just traditional goldfish orange. I still love him though).
I have experience with Goldfish. They can change colors through their life COMPLETELY! It seems crazy, but it is true. 😎🤟 Thanks for helping me kill the old lie that Goldfish can't live with live plants. It is more about if you keep them well fed. Great Video.
One of your best aquascapes ever!! Isn't it just exciting that it's for goldfish ♥️ and loving that you found another plant that's goldfish safe😁🙏 the cha cheerio 😂😂 lights were nice! I love the vlog videos they're fun, creative and now with the gimbal.. WOW the camera work is phenomenal... The MD experience just got even better! Thank you for another beautiful video. I can always use the smile! We are hanging in there. My little Grandbaby is still on life support we had a small break through. He attempted to take a breath on his own.. all the thoughts and prayers are working for this special baby!! You want to hear something neat.. the NICU where he is, is decorated in an aquarium theme.. murals, decorations, and lots of pictures of fish everywhere!! I just thought it was pretty special because everybody knows how much I love aquariums. It makes it beautiful atmosphere were little baby Avrum will continue to heal and we're praying he will just wake up soon 🙏🙏 thank you MD and everyone out there for your continued thoughts and prayers! We love everybody so much and thank you all from the bottom of our hearts!!!♥️🙏🙏
You know you're growing big if chihiros send their lights for you 😂😂... This channel is growing huge , at one point he will touch 1M and it will become tougher and tougher to get hearts from MD!! XD
you got one of the most sought after lights out there congrats on the free swag and the gold fish Tank look great, gold fish look so funny the way they wiggle when they swim.
@@nanoreaper5002 Yeah that's what I said hahaha, they're really popular here in Thailand among our aquascapers, I think it's a chinese brand? a really high quality one tho.
Great video MD! I tryed to do my own ikebana aquascape it's a great scape to do and very modern! I don't know a person that likes brown algue! Thanks for the video!
Have you ever considered doing kind of an auto biography vlog? Just something that tells your story. Seen a few big you tubers do it with excellent results.
I love your little sayings MD! And the face you make when you say it followed by a laugh. Ha ha ha ha! ;-) I love keeping my tank neat. It's so relaxing to do. I have a 5 W LED lamp on my nano tank. All my plants are "EASY" from Tropica. They grow insanely and are so green! Cheers mate!
Finally someone who has brown algae! I've done water changes, lowered lights, cleaned off sides and plants (as much as I could) but I have soil and I think way too much so it just keeps coming right back. No to mention the filter getting so dirty after two days that the waters color changes to a tan-ish color. I'm thinking about taking it down and starting over. Idk what else to do.
@@her-myoh-nee1324 I suspect your soil has already started rotting. That might be causing your problem. Specially with the sand on top of it and naturally produced gasses from the soil being trapped inside. How much soil did you put it and how much sand? See, this is why I NEVER will use soil. Way to many problems with it and not very durable in my opinion.
Brown Algae is actually not an algae at all but a diatom. Things like not enough light can actually trigger it! Along with that, high nitrates can also be a cause too. I found a lot of good information about it online that helped my brown algae issues.
I have 3 of their lights. Usually strong and durable. Dropped them in the tank a bunch of times. My oldest one is 3,5 years old. Still going strong! 👍 But I have their 39W 60 cm long version. 2 of them on my 3 feet deep cube make the plants lush and green.
Still loving your videos MD. You are so full of ideas. Pleased you didn't spend long extolling the virtues of the lights just because they sent them to you. Once you have tried them I'm sure you'll give us some honest feedback.
This is exactly the advice I need at the moment!! I have a tropical tank set up for 5 weeks now so still very new with neon tetras for the first week fish were introduced, then 6 salt and pepper corries, 1 bristlenose pleco, 4 zebra snails and an African dwarf frog. They're all doing well together but wondering how much algae is good, it's not brown atm and all tests good, but good to know I can gently give ornaments a scrub when need be, thanks, interesting and helpful videos 👍
It's pretty impressive how long you've done everything on your phone. Feel like you've well and truly earned your new tech! What did you go for in the end? I've been looking at an M50.
Absolutely love your videos, makes me really want to start a planted tank. Quick one your tanks always look amazing but have you ever had any scratches and how do you get them out?
Love your content 👍 all of your tanks don’t have lids. I’ve read on a lot of sites that rimless lose a lot to evaporation, and that when you regularly top up the tank you can over mineralise you’re tank if adding plain dechlorinated tap water. what would you say is best to combat this as I love rimless look but a bit wary to lose the lid and my water parameters slowly get worse over time without me knowing. Really hope you reply 🤩
MD had to know so I googled Guy Diamond and much to my surprise he's a lil silver glitter troll , so perfect name for your lil glittery silver angel; next is what does M D stand for .I'm sure it's not Monty Don, although he is British and loves plants too ,lol ; just saying is all.
MD!!! Haven’t watched the vid yet but I can tell it’s gonna be a good one. I just have a question, I have a no filter bowl shrimp tank, and it’s been growing a blueish algae...aside from dimming the light, do you have any other recommendations to get rid of algae?
Amazing videos! Thinking of getting a tank and I kind of love the idea of goldfish but as I understand it an adult needs 100L? Probably that’s as big as I can go so maybe I’ll just have one...unless they get lonely? Is that a thing?
Been following you from the early days. Amazing channel, well done and thank you. Watching your videos are the highlight of the day. Nice to see you getting some algae on those plants like the rest of us too! Gets a bit tiresome looking at pristine tanks on other well known channels all the time. Your picture is incredible quality. Can I ask what camera and mic you are using please?
How often do you need to clean your goldfish aquarium? I've never kept goldfish, but I've heard you have to clean them more often than for other fish, wasn't sure if that was true
have you never watched the film spirited away ? Its a great film and I assume the company got inspired by the film because chihiro is the name of the main character and there is also a dragon like they use in their logo
What brand are the majority of your tanks? I don't think I could ever get a rimmed tank, but the cost of rimless are also very pricey. If there's a chance of a cheaper option, I'm jumping in! lol
@@MDFishTanks Ah! I've just searched them, the model they gave you is just a basic normal desk light, hopefully they pair you up with their top models in the future, WRGB, A series etc.
@@yyeonck To be honest Noey, I could ask for anything I want and companies will obviously give it to you because of view figures. I don't really want the expensive lights though. I like to keep to affordability. I have the odd twinstar light which is something great for people to move onto, but for the most part, I just like cheap LED strips to be honest.
@@MDFishTanks That's why you have my subscription! You really helped me believe that amazing tanks can be affordable, no need for Co2 and fancy stuff and still have incredible results, thank you for keeping the channel's identity and being true to who you are! I guess I just wanted the influencer whom I am subscribed to to be happy and receive the best products, I've forgotten the channel's charm. Sorry MD!

One thing I’ve always wondered, and I saw that Pumpkin has eyes that are fully black, is that normal? Is it genetic? Can they see or are they blind? I’ve seen fish with eyes like that before but always wondered
I can honestly say that I never encountered the brown algae issue in all the years that I had aquariums (30 years). Some green algae, yes but nothing out of the abnormal scale and just an amount that you'll find in EVERY creek/stream/river/..., and only once I had a bit of hair algae, but that is quickly solved with adding more plants and reducing the hours and strength of the lights (never did a water change after I noticed that one, I just removed it with a toothbrush, dimmed the lights and that was it). TIP: when setting up a new tank, only use 50% strength of the light you intend to use afterwards, and reduce the hours considerably in the beginning. Let the biological life - specially the plants - in your tank get used to it's new environment before you (slowly) crank everything up. Oh and don't add too many fish at once, since your biological filter media won't be able to coop with it, hence your water parameters will go absolutely bonkers, resulting in all sorts of undesirable algae growing all over the place (the natural balance is gone) and even possibly in the death of fish. Little detail: I only do 20% waterchanges every 3-4 months, if even that much. No Co2 at all, no special plant soil (I use quarts sand and/or quarts gravel only), but I have good and adequate filtration (Tetra EX 1200 Plus, and two medium sized HOB's to put in some extra biomedia, filterfloss and also, in my case, peat granules), lots of plants with proper (liquid) fertilization - I never use root tabs, I have low/normal fish stock and every month I do an elaborated water testing, not just PH, GH and KH >> which I do every 2 weeks. Oh and I use rainwater from our 40+ years old, 6000L underground concrete rainwater tank. I don't use tap water at all anymore for two years now, since I don't trust it for one bit anymore after I started literally smelling the chlorine in it. But the other reason I only use rainwater also is that, this is an old house built in 1977 and it still has old copper waterlines. And you know what that means. And I often see people with cheap LED lights - without a dimmer - that have way too many blue LED's and way too bright white LED's. Blue light enhances algae growth as well as too strong (cold) white light. And something else I see A LOT of people do: getting an LED light that is as long as their tank (or close to). There's no need for that at all, in my opinion. Fish like a bit of shade too, even goldfish. For example, on my 150cm (300L) South American "biotope" I only use a 30W, 99cm LED (Fluval Aquasky 2.0 Bluetooth). And I NEVER put it on full blast (about an average of about 70% all LED's combined), even with the water having that typical amazon dark(er) water. The plants and fish love it, and pesty algae absolutely hate it. For people who are already using a cheap LED light that "feels to bright": put some floating plants in your tank to create shade. Not only will it help with more stable water parameters, it will also give your fish a much desired place to retreat in/under when they want. Cheers and happy tanking!
Why are all my comments critiquing? I really do like your channel. Anyways, I just wanted to mention that watts aren't the right measurment for lights when growing plants. What you should be looking for is par. Watts are just the amount of energy the light takes. Par is the actual brightness. An 8 watt light could easily be less bright than a 7 watt light.
Hopefully going to set up my first tank (25 gallon) I was thinking a pair of apistos or some killis and a school of tetra or raspbora Does anyone have any suggestions, all help appreciated
Phoenix I’d add a dozen neocardinia and some corydoras hasbrosus. Both are fun to watch and help tidy up the tank. And are small enough to not greatly increase the bio load.
Hah, I was just coming on here to ask you if that was Ember! Story time! I had a goldfish for about 2 and 1/2 years (Man, that guy got big!) that I named Blackie. He had a mostly black body, with probably just two or three little spots of orange and white. Just a beautiful, dark fish. About a year or so after owning him he had no black, at all, and it only came through every now and then on random scales after that... ..it is still painful to think about how many times I had to explain that goldfish change colors throughout the course of their lives & that he USED TO be black to people who came over and asked why my goldfish was named Blackie. No promises, but I'll probably never name a fish based on its colors again because of how *annoying* that was.
Do you have a weight lifting/fitness channel also? I watched one of your videos and you mentioned something about weight lifting. I got all excited you might have a fitness channel too but couldn't find one. You should do it! 😊
@@MDFishTanks Gyms are still open here in California - probably why cases are still skyrocketing. 🤦♀️ I'd love to see you do a weight lifting channel though!
Ember's colour change had me a bit stumped for a moment there. The goldie crew is looking fat and fantastic! Can't wait to have goldfish again one day, but just don't have time for the maintenance they require right now.
CHI-heer-RO is a Japanese name, famous in the West because it's the name of the protagonist from Studio Ghibli's 2001 international smash "Spirited Away".
It’s really fashionable these days to bad mouth Amazon and Jeff Bezos, and I suppose some of the criticism is well deserved, but yeah, I agree. Amazon Prime is awesome. And here in Pandemic Central (aka Los Angeles), I couldn’t live without it. Just got a beep from AMZ. My new iPhone tripod adapter and 18 tins of kippers have just arrived. New topic: my plants And some hitchhiker bladder snails I got 3 months ago (AMZ) are the last thing I added to my tank. Yesterday, I noticed some duckweed. Today I noticed more duckweed. Has it been hiding for 3 months or does the stuff just spontaneously generate?
It's MD's way to entertain us & we love him for it. Have you heard him struggling with plant names? I know he could spend time getting the pronunciations precisely correct but us MD'ers like the fact he's not a know it all.
I love your channel and the "keep it simple" mood... also the fact that u didnt do a sellout for any gift which arrived because of your success. but in this Chihiros case i think you did it wrong. these lights are expensive, this is the newest generation and even If they didnt pay you for showing them, i think you could give it more view then "its just a light"... the design for tanks with lids, the mobile arm for maintenance etc... You havent to do a 20min sellout vid... but a bit more will be fair enough for free gifts. greetz
