Robbie, I really like all three of the butterfly bushes, especially the one you decided to plant. Can I make a suggestion? Bring the bush at least a half a foot out from the pole so that it has plenty of room to grow. It looks too crowded, especially with the apple back there trying to grow too. 😊 Just saying, lol!

try the perennial “ Maximilian sunflower” tons of blooms from beginning of summer to thanksgiving kinda inventive as it self seeds and spreads but when it starts popping through the soil, just pull the pieces you don’t want in that area they get tall and maybe some people might need some trellising or support, but they are beautiful have

I wear the nitrate coated gloves. Last pretty long and keep my hands relatively clean and better grip of tools. You need a kneeling pad to keep those knees clean. Lol. I have a butterfly bush like the one you chose…it’s lovely.
@jcking6785
@jcking6785 3 месяца назад
That butterfly bush is going to look spectacular with that lime green behind it. I don’t know if your soil is amended, but it sure looks rich and healthy. Leather gloves like that are not meant for contact with the soil, they’re more meant for protecting your hands from limbs that you cut or working with wood, “rough work”, that sort of thing. Now that they’re dirty, be sure to brush all the soil off them once it has dried - they’ll last longer and stay softer. For planting in contact with the soil, nitrile coated gloves work best. Yes, to a vine up the power pole!

Just curious but are Monrovia butterfly bushes sterile? I might have missed if you mentioned it. As for the grass you could have divided the one you have to fill in the other areas. It’s amazing how fast they fill in. But the sunflowers are going to look amazing against that fence. Can’t wait to see them in bloom.💚

The pollinators must love your garden, Robbie🥰! Question, if you get a Monrovia plant shipped to a garden center do you have to tell the garden center beforehand or does Monrovia tell them? How will the garden center know it was you who ordered the plant? Just wondering in case in the future I decide to order from Monrovia😁.

Good Day Robbie. I was wondering, Does the sunflowers not get huge and if so why plant them so dang close? I think that the butterfly bush looks so great where you planted it. Looking forward to seeing it in bloom. I would have to say that the gloves worked so well but now you need a kneeling pad to keep your knees clean. Have a wonderful day.

Gloves - yes! Your hands will thank you! A perfect climber for the power pole would be a clematis. They like full sun but shaded rootball. The butterfly bush would provide that shade. 👍

Love the butterfly bushes, gonna have to get a couple!!! Found the Sunbelivable yesterday, can’t wait to see that in all its glory!!! So happy you are with Monrovia and we get to see their plants. Question, do you put individual emitters on every plant? I’m slowly converting to drip and I know we are all different but we have similar weather so was looking for a starting point, then I can monitor and change as needed.

Robbie, my butterfly bush bit the dust for some reason. It finally had the biggest, most beautiful flowers last spring, then at the end of last summer it just bit the dust. I will replace with a rose most likely. I have two other butterfly bushes called that because their blue flowers are shaped like a butterfly, and I just love them. They get big and fast. A one gallon in a year was 5 ft tall, 6 ft wide.

I don't wear gloves because I'm touched sensitive. It's a strange thing where I kind of rely on my feelings to see. It makes cable knit sweaters atrocious lol. Something short circuits in my brain when I'm gardening with gloves on. I even deal with roses in my palm tree without gloves on I'm thinking about getting one of those arm sleeves but I'll still get poked in the fingers😅

I’d urge you against having buddlea unless it’s a sterile variety (they are rare) as they seed prolifically including your neighbours gardens. Despite being known as butterfly bushes they give up very little to insects so aren’t that helpful to pollinators. Insects are tempted by their flowers but get little in return.

@kater8730 3 месяца назад
Watch the black walnuts they are extremely toxic. A neighbour has one and squirrels went crazy carrying them along the backyard fences and dropping some in my yard. I didn't know what it was until my dog was eating one and subsequently got very sick. Now during walnut season I go out daily to pick up any strays walnuts in my yard so this doesn't happen again.
