Planting Annuals, Trimming Camellias & Laying Pavers | Gardening with Creekside

We have had a very productive time in the new patio area! We were able to plant our Proven Winners' annuals in the beds, trim and fertilize the Sprinter boxwoods and White Shi-Shi camellias and lay pavers in the last remaining portion of the patio. We are getting so close to getting this big project completed!

The patio is amazing and Jerry and you are amazing for having done it all. You guys work so well as a team and isn't that what marriage is all about? The flower beds are going to be amazing too. I learn so much from you every day. I am learning all about plants I have never heard of before and am glad I am. It's way to early for us to plant outside yet, (Chicago). I need to transplant a couple of rose bushes and split up some lilies so I have to wait until mid April to do that. Can't wait! The flowers are going to be so pretty. I know the hard work that goes into all that (the doing and re-doing), I've done all the rock work on our place through the years.(Walkways, patios, steps, raised beds, with another one planned for this year, our fire pit area.) Maybe you were saying it correctly, and the camera just picked it up differently? But I was hearing you say "screen" and screening, when referring to the leveling process that Jerry was doing. Soooooo, here's the thing: During the leveling process, when you're pulling the 2x4 across the metal pipes, this process is called "screeding", or to screed. With a D, not a N. The screeding is the process, it's a verb. There are no actual "screeds" to walk on. Those metal pipes can be called screed pipes tho. And yes, you never want to walk on the pipes. Of Coarse, none of that really matters while doing the actual process! The important part is getting the leveling done process correctly. Which looked like y'all did do a VERY NICE job! I hope this comment isn't too bossy... I just thought you might want to have the correct terminolgy.❤

Aw, Jerry loves Jenny. 💏 I love these DITL videos. It's amazing the growth on those boxes you planted a week or two ago. I potted 5 bubblegum plants in bigger pots while they wait for my tulip show to end. I'm still on the lookout for some Silverberry petunias to plant in my hydrangea garden in back, but if I can't find them (I've been to 5 garden centers multiple times looking for all the PW plants on my wish list since winter) I will plant the white petunias...if only I can remember which store had them. I'm still looking for 'Wicked Witch' coleus and 'Rockin Back to the Fuchsia' salvia. (I'm in Minneapolis.) How exciting to see buds on your David Austin BR roses already! Mine are due to arrive in about a week. I still have to prepare the site for them. I picked up 4 bags of garden soil. Last year, I hauled 40 bags of soil to create a berm, but there was some settling over winter. Seeing Jerry work on the patio was helpful. This year, I intend to lift some pavers in my patio to level them. When our streets were torn up about 12 years ago, I opted to have my concrete driveway replaced at a greatly discounted price. But they had to remove some of my pavers to place the forms and now those pavers dip down creating a trip point. Also, I'd like to replace the locking sand with the polymer sand that should prevent weeds from growing between the pavers. So many projects. Jenny, my knees hurt watching you kneeling to plant. I'm 64 and the knees are shot. Well, off to the store to get more Plant-tone. That stuff is fantastic! I think I figured out a way to extend my peony blooms. Succession fertilizing. I ran out of Plant-tone after only placing some on half the plant and now that side has taller stems. Haha! Can you grow peonies in your zone? That's my favorite flower. I have ten plants, but I always want more. Our cool spring has helped keep them happy. Last year got hot so quickly and they bloomed and the show was over in days.

@elizabeth1234.. 3 года назад
@@heathercole2447 I bought five pw annuals from Lowe's (all branded) and it wasn't enough so I was stopping in at an independent owned PW approved nursery and no branded. And these plants are spindly and sad and expensive compared to my Lowe's plants
@Edu_Kate
@Edu_Kate 3 года назад
@@elizabeth1234.. Try snipping back the spindly plants. That should make them stronger and flush out more stems...and blooms. Everytime I do that I die a little inside, but then I'm rewarded quickly with bountiful growth.

@elizabeth1234.. 3 года назад
@@Edu_Kate I came home with my expensive little plants and started pinching and fiancé goes “what are you doing? They were expensive!” And I replied “making them pretty” I am a believer in a good prune. @heathercole2447

@@elizabeth1234.. 🤔 that's crazy! We got supertunias last year in PW pots from a local nursery and they had been pinched and looked so full...got them from the same place this year with a PW tag but a black pot and none had been pinched. I pinched them and tossed the discarded part beside the stack. It was really frustrating bc the price was the same as last year but these were all leggy and now my hands were all sticky 😂
