Love the 560! My Uncle's main workhorse was a 560. The sound of that tractor has stayed with me for all these years. Long since gone but, i can sill visualize my uncle climbing up on it and hear him start it up and letting it idle before hitting the fields. Memories.

I remember one spring it was wet my dad did a experiment with our disk he ended up hooking up the disk in front of the sheepsfoot roller we had then behind it drug a spring tooth and a spike tooth harrow all connected together as like a tillage train our 806 pulled it with rear duals u couldn't even tell it behind it .it was on heavy clay soil tryin plant soybeans got rid of all the clods made a nice seed bed before planting
@ronniewayne5748
@ronniewayne5748 2 года назад
It didn't seem to cause any compaction because the soybeans did very well that year
@ronniewayne5748
@ronniewayne5748 2 года назад
We would also just use the sheepsfoot roller aerate all of the pasture to so the hay would grow so the cattle could graze in it

I am 70 YO and grew up on 1000 acres of cattle ranch, orchard, and row crop (beans, corn mostly). I have a degree in Ag but never used it as I left Ag for high Tech in the late 70's and pioneered what we take for granted as the internet technology, and I am kind of proud of that (farm boy going high tech LOL) We always plowed with moldboard plows every year and ran discs to pulverize the soil. This was in the SW US, and we irrigated, so had mostly total control over moisture. I have studied the erosion and bio arguments, but would like your opinion. I have even deep plowed (6") with a dozer developing a new 40 acres. Just curious. Love the channel.
@trinitydairy
@trinitydairy 3 года назад
Thanks for watching! I find your story fascinating, if you look back at history, it's amazing how many advances in technology, have come from people who were born and raised on a farm! There is always a debate on different tillage practices, but one thing I have learned is, it depends a lot on climate, soil type, and terrain. We do conventional tillage here, because of the short growing season and typically colder spring weather, the soil doesn't warm up enough, unless It's tilled.l have never tried no till myself, but have seen neighbors try it, with very poor results. Another source of erosion for us is cultivating corn, we have hilly terrain and light sandy soil, so keeping the soil loose , can lead to a lot of erosion, but some places in the country, have very good luck with no till, and cultivation for weed control. Thanks again for watching, and God bless!

@trinitydairy
@trinitydairy 4 года назад
@Sarah Of The North cultivating is basically like hoeing weeds in a garden, but with the advances in herbicide technology it's more efficient to use them than to cultivate.
@douglasmacarthur8775
@douglasmacarthur8775 4 года назад
@Sarah Of The North ..good answer given by Allan , however I always felt there was a benefit from cultivating especially on heavy soils. I wish someone would test plot where 8 rows cultivated/8 rows not on a big field and see if there is a yield advantage tilling the corn field during the growing season. However, as Allan stated, there would have to be a big enough yield advantage to more than cover the expense of cultivating. However
@trinitydairy
@trinitydairy 4 года назад
@@douglasmacarthur8775 yes, it would be interesting to see a test plot, one issue we had with cultivating here is with the sandy soil and hills is soil erosion, but like you said, I also think heavy soil would be better.
