Planting hybrid plinia seeds as well as some sprouted Sabara seeds that have been growing in a sealed bag for over a month.
WARNING: Aside from all the good stuff in it, coconut water does have sodium in it. This is an experiment and may cause problems with plinias since they do not like sodium. The coconut tree this water came from was not near the ocean so I am unsure if that changes the sodium content. I will keep an eye on them and update if any negative effects happen from the diluted coconut water foliar spray.

i watched this video and ordered my seeds immediately! at 13:31 you showed seeds that had started germinating already in storage. that gave me the confidence that i can safely germinate my seeds like that too and then transfer them to pots when i know that they are successful. most of my seeds have roots already. i put them in germination bags on the 7th Sep 2021 and moved some of them into pots on the 19th Sep. the Red was the fastest to germinate. thank you!!! you've earned a sub!

Dont let the roots get as long as the one in the video. Best to plant it right when you see a little roots started. If you wait till it they look like in the video they will be slow to grow and a bit stunted.

Wow great video I am going to be planting sabara jaboticaba seeds when I get home.

Thanks! Just don't let the seeds dry out. Try to clean off the pulp and then seal in a plastic bag till you can plant it. Hold off on doing the diluted coconut water, I don't know if it is helpful and might hurt your seeds.

Great video! I managed to find one seller in the UK that had Jabo seeds, so hopefully I can get them to grow in our climate! (I spoke with you on eBay the other day) What soil mix do you use? :)

That's great news! I have my fingers crossed for you. I am using Pro-Mix HP right now, but in the future I am going to experiment with a more coarse blend of fibers to try to prevent soil compaction. Seems like peat soils need to be changed out/refreshed every 6-12 months, but for seeds and young seedlings peat based soils seem to be the best.

@@mantiispsn6543 Cool. What variety did you go for? Maybe we can trade seedlings when we come out of the Tier system in the spring/ summer

@@Earth_Systems They were just listed as Plinia Cauliflora, so not a specific variety. Didn't really have any other choice I'd be happy to trade as well :) Are yours named varieties?

Leo Hi, from sunny Florida. Suggestion when I use trays, after placing the soil in I take another tray of the same type to pack the soil. Saves time and my finger nails stay cleaner. Also, on the farm I use 16 oz styrofoam cups for seeds that I desire to grow larger before transplanting into larger nursery pots. I place and secure a loose fitting plastic bag over the top to create higher humidity and I have a hole in the bottom of the cup. The cups are placed in a large tray and I maintain about 1/2” of water in the tray. Once the seedlings are growing well and the plastic cover is removed I can add nutrients in the tray. Very good suggestions, I also do that at times. I sometimes like to get my hands/fingers dirty. I try to avoid buying styrofoam, but I am a big fan of recycling plastic drink cups for planting to give them some extra use instead of being a one time use plastic. Large scale recycling is a bit of a joke and any way to reduce/reuse/recycle yourself is better in my opinion. - Thanks for commenting!

I like those trays... where do you get them?... I'm sure they are not available here in AL locally Kevin

I had to pay over $67 in shipping to get them to Hawaii Hahah. I got them from "horticulture source" 10" x 20" Premium X-DEEP 50 Cell Seedling Plug Tray - Can check to see if somewhere local to you has anything similar. I would check places like Nutrien AG or Greenhouse megastore. Also the "38 deep cell star nursery plug trays" are good too.

how long during summer from seed to first set of leaves?
@GrowTropicalFruits
@GrowTropicalFruits 3 года назад
It really depends on a lot of factors. But my last batch of seeds I just planted took about a month before they had their first leaves.

how did you germinate them?
@GrowTropicalFruits
@GrowTropicalFruits 3 года назад
After the seeds are cleaned I put them in a plastic ziplock bag with vermiculite to cover the seeds. I use a spray bottle to moisten the vermiculite to the point where it gets darker in color but not to the point where it clumps. Maybe 3 to 5 sprays with a large spray bottle. Then I keep the bag of seeds in a box or somewhere dark and warm 75-85F. If it's cold where you are, maybe on top of the refrigerator would help since its warmer up there.

whats your soil mix?
@GrowTropicalFruits
@GrowTropicalFruits 3 года назад
In this video and for seeds in general, I use Pro-Mix HP (or BX), Sunshine mix 4 is also good, sometimes I add more plain peat and add more perlite to stretch out the Pro-Mix since its not very cheap. I will make a video of the container soil I mix for my more established trees I plan to keep. Thanks for watching!
