I would imagine like many people these days, I spend too much time watching youtube videos. But I have to commend you, when I watch yours I get a sense of being young, wanting to accomplish something, and I am not that young anymore. Thank you for the inspiration, wonderful craftsmanship.
I'm in the process in making your plasma table now and so far I've spent close to $300.00 in materials from Metal Depot. It's well worth it, since I'm passing the time during the Covid-19 pandemic in my workshop.
I hate to be that guy who asks but.... music? In a period where a lot of youtubers are all using a handful of generic tunes, you have stepped it up a notch.
This man is a genius fabricator! The woodblock jig is so well thought out a real time saver. Then he used the table that was half built to plasma cut the sheet stock. I'm going to build this next. Thank you for all your time and effort to make this video.
Thanks for the ideas. I'd never in a million years have thought of offsetting the hole in the chute to allow for the placement of the bucket 'and' cutter, That's just superb!
Saaawweeeet. I'd probably just disassemble the welding table and throw the plate on top of this whenever I'd want to weld. A nice double duty space saver in a small shop like yours. Great work, Zack!
Great video! I think if I do one I'll make the bottom shelf out of mesh so any dust falls straight through and doesn't build up on it. I'd probably also extend the tail of the funnel further into the bucket and maybe add a lid of some sort to help protect the plasma cutter a bit more.
Er, I think you mean "chock" the wheel, as parking inspectors are the ones who chalk your wheels and we don't want that happening as the tickets for their gigs are kind of expensive. Now that might be a useful name for a band, "The Parking Inspectors". Copyright to me as of NOW. hehehe
I like the idea of the slag catcher or whatever your calling it. Think I might have to do something similar to mine. Nothing beats a cool storage/ work space
That turned out great, Zack. Super useful to have in a metalworking shop, never even heard of a plasma table before you talked about it on the podcast.
I'm so glad I found your channel. Really creative solutions. Best plasma table idea I have seen. I'm going to make me one of those. Not too big, not too small, and lots of function and containment. Thanks for sharing with all of us! Joel.....
Go check out Jody Collier at "Welding Tips and Tricks" and Bob Moffat at "Weld.com", two of the best welding instructional video channels on YT. Remember welding is a bit like learning to write or paint, its a hand eye coordination thing along with some technical knowledge for the different metals and welding parameters.
Adam's company did the patches for The Collective, brother. I thought YOU introduced ME to him. Once I have room, I'm picking up a few tools and I'll start teaching myself. I may even take a few classes.
Careful David, using tools and making stuff is addictive, time and space consuming and expensive, and for some strange reason people refer to those sort of things as "junk" unless you happen to be building/ making something for them. You may find yourself searching for a "Man Cave" as well.
My tools are in service to ANOTHER hobby, so fear not. Unless my tools can allow me to simulate flying legally, I'll stick with riding and use the tools to make things different (and hopefully, better).
nice, I'm gonna build one like this, I like the idea for replacing the slats, and having the slag catcher bucket underneath and ability to store the plasma cutter below, thanks for the video,
You will never stop surprising me with your meticulous style. U too much Bosss. I love your style all time. I need more insight on stuff plasma cutter, mig welder compressor . I ll be happy if U could help
Seth Galitzer We used to do that for our lasers at work. I don't think we were using the same steel that Amada used for their laser slats. We were using stadard hot rolled steel (not sure on the gauge.) The company was wanting to go cheap, but the laser operators and supervisors realized very early on that the in-house slats weren't lasting as long.
Yes! Great to finally see this come together! really looking forward to seeing what you create now you've got plasma. Also, great music to this video too!
Nice! Smart and simple design and I reckon it was cheap to make too. I think this has to go on the list of things I'm gonna have to make sooner or later, plasma cutting without one of these can be kind of a mess. The slats are just drooped in and can be removed right?
Hi excellent vid. Question as I don’t own a plasma cutter and never used one. How come when you cut the sheeting to make the dust collection chute, It didn’t cut through the cross bars under the sheeting?
How has the Lincoln been keeping up over the years? I have the little Hobart version and it time to up grade. Looked at the hypertherm but the Lincoln is 5-600 cheaper.
Nice man, love watching your vids due to the style of your work and the vids themselves. Really dig the raw garage blues tracks. Also, even though I'm a woodworker, you're my fave on the pod - don't tell Johnny or James!
Hah, thank you! I love woodworking, I just seem to get a lot of metal oriented commissions. Thanks for the compliment, I honestly think the podcast takes all three of us--Johnny had to sit out last nights recording and--well--lets just say directing a podcast is not my forte, I'm better at smart ass remarks and derailing the show topic :)
+ZH Fabrications This is excellent, I've been looking into building something similar to mount my 2 x 72 grinder on to aid in dust control, amazing man thanks for posting!
Hi come across this by accident. A elegant design, now on my to build list , went to hit the subscribe button. And. I already am, you got lost in the throng of good tubers.
great build man! Id love to have a plasma cutter some day. I think it might be the last method of cutting metal I am missing... well a hydraulic or jump shear would be nice too. Good music and edit too.
Well, well super job. Beautiful table, nice garage. Can you write pleas what type of disc saw for metal you have? I am looking for one and I do not know what to buy. Thanks
I like it. What gauge steel would you recommend for the chute leading into the bucket? I have a welding table that I may retrofit into an plasma table.
Yep they are easily replaceable. I use the table quite a bit and haven't had to replace any yet. I used Boiled Linseed Oil at the end to keep the rust away.
After having this for a while, if you had to build it again is there anything you would change? I've been looking at the the weld table plasma carts but I can build one for half the cost or better. What dimensions did you make yours?
I can't think of much I'd change... I might have sprayed everything but the top with an enamel just to do a better job at keeping rust away--it's not a big issue. I think mine is roughly 2'x3'
How tall is it, that was a draw back from the certiflat one they are the same height as the weld tables. Which can be nice when laying a big sheet across it but seems to me that it is a bit high to get in a good position to plasma cut. I would think you would want to be more over top looking down at your work to get more precise cuts when you are cutting shapes and such.
Thanks! Not really, I mean I think you probably only need slats every 4" instead of 2" like I made them, but they pop out easily, so I guess I just have more options.
Great video and project.I am getting a welder to mess around the some small projects and I noticed you have a 140 welder .You happy with that size ?I was thinking of getting the 180 but will need to get 220 put in my Garage.I always hear Bigger is better but are you pleased with the 140?
