1970s Grammy Award winning Tempt line-up: Fabulous Dennis Edwards, Damon Harris (tenor and Eddie Kendrick replacement), superb Richard Street, and Melvin Franklin.
As much as I love Eddie and Paul, I think Damon and Richard Street filled their spots very well. It's a shame this later era for the tempts tends to get overlooked by radio and casual Motown fans.
The groove, the tones, the lyrics, and the messages were too soulful and edgy. I don't know about Pop radio, but Black radio jumped all over the Tempts in the early 70s. You are right, the casual Motown fans don't talk about the music of Motown in the '70s, besides Marvin & Stevie & Diana. The Jackson 5 didn't have any crossover hits at this time, but that Git It Together & Dancing Machine LPs were FYRE! Yes indeed!
Cholly Atkins choreography at its best! Featured here is The Temptation walk...with such smooth precision. (Although Otis looks like he's having some issues getting his leg up). The Temptations walk was always Like a well tuned engine. 😊
The Temps, spectacular as usual. I love the way they treated themselves as special, like with the mic stand, the way they dressed, being in formation, and, of course, premiere singers.
I now remember why I didn't remember this album: I had gotten tired of that Ball of Confusion/Psychedelic Shack sound. Their next - & last really good album was A Song For You.
They had some jacked up teeth..All of them were good. They fitted in perfect with their era. Ollie, davis, and dennis were great, even the new dude who sung stay.
@@garymayfield5995 I have perfectly fine teeth Mr Harry. Im sure you are all snag tooth and all now. how many missing teeth do you have . dont lie shame the debil
And this appears to be after Otis started looking like he was trying to keep guys in line right there on stage - slyly looking over to make sure certain other people were getting their dance steps right. Otis, ever the enforcer - lol.
You had a Johnnie taylor live performance on soul train, its september video up, and it was one of my mothers favorite songs and artists. And it seems to be taken down... I would appreciate it if i could see it again, or if you could send it to me, as i remember her birthday today.
Who says Dennis, Damon and Richard have to be David, Eddie and Paul? They're not trying to be and they don't have to because trying to do so would make them phony....
My friend,it depends who you talk too.Are you black? Spanish? White? Just asking, cause sometimes, color and culture plays a major role. Just asking.Lets chat
rexx garvin im probably blacker than you ...lol...im taking in consideration the two different era's..david worked perfectly for the early to md 60's sound they created and dennis worked for the late 60's early 70's sound...but i truly believe david would have set all those songs on fire too. he was just that versatile
Very valid point! And thank you for your understanding, when it comes to culture, cause their is a difference how we hear with in the culture we are from. Im from Mt. Vernon New York and I'm 54. When David was with them in the 60's,it was to me,a soulful pop feel. See Lorenzo,David is soulful and Raw,but dennis is collard green funky. David Ruffin could kill Cloud Nine Pshyodelic Shack (Misspell, you know),But Dennis has another feel. The Temps really don't get props for their Transformations. Two tenors after Eddie, and they kept spinning Em'. Eddie Kendricks is stone cold dropping em' Keep on Truckin' Boogie Down,''Girl you need a change of Mind'' Awsome! Like I said,The temps get no props1 But they are the Best ever! And again my friend, your points are valid........
@Chris Warren You realize that Motown still owned him and that he and Berry hated one another, right? Berry personally fed him trash songs and David asked several times to be let out of his contract. And, yes, David's voice was phenomenal. I love both he and Dennis, but David had the better vocals, and Dennis was an awesome human being as well as vocalist.
@Bertha Hutton: This song came out at a time of social consciousness; a president a year away from quitting (Nixon). Many people were being exposed at this time. We also had just come out of Vietnam...many plastic men got us into that war. A political song!
