Some inline skates are made out of carbon fiber while most skates are still made out of plastic. Which one is better and why?

In my opinion carbons are just good for speedskating or other disciplines without jumping because carbon breaks much easier than plastic. I had a USD Carbon model from Franky Morales and after a gap one of my feet broke through the carbon-sole. Further on the SEBA CJ-Skate occured a crack on the side after a couples of weeks aggressive skating . After I could not use the powerstrap anymore because also the scissor broke out of the carbon on this spot. Also for grinds plastics felt in my eyes more comfortable because they are not so stiff. So, everybody should take care before buying a carbon-skate...😉PS: I hope that you will bring out again a new streetskating-edit. The mizou on the green rail was dope!

Aggressive skating will be coming back soon. But at the moment it's just so cold outside that I prefer big wheels, because I keep moving at all times. With aggressive you always need these breaks and they're just deadly when it's freezing 😅

In 20 years of skating, I've had about 10 different skates. The coolest SEBA High Carbon of 2009. They served me for 14 years. They were perfect. I am currently testing SEBA СJ2 (plastic), I plan to test SEBA CJ1 (carbon). I think it makes sense to buy plastic only for financial reasons, carbon is definitely cooler. Although there probably won't be much difference for aggressive skating.

Firstly, your camera presence has improved greatly. You can really feel the passion beaming off you through the screen. Admittedly a bit wild on the dialog but the passion sure makes up for it. On a personal note, I'm quite for the jazzy feel but I'm also a funk kinda guy, but that's a personal thing in regards to videography. As for the topic on hand, I have yet to try a carbon boot but I do like a chunkier boot. It's that feel of having something solid on my feet that can take a beating and keep on taking it. I'm a fan of the Pro Valo boots / Roces 5ths as they are solid and got that chunky feel I can rely on. Truly it is a preference thing but this guy, thus far at least, is team plastic/PU. Hey, if someone gave me a carbon boot for free, I'd definitely give it a roll.

Well put! Thanks for the feedback, appreciate your support 🙏🔥 The vibes in my sequences are usually a pretty solid representation of how I felt that day when I was out skating 😄 So it varies a lot but I feel like a bunch of jazz/blues might be coming up in the near future since it's still deep winter 🤷😅

I’ve owned one pair of carbon boots in my life. They were Valo BS Oxbloods. Loved them to death but as far as performance, I noticed no difference from the plastic Valo, other than the fact that I was able to downsize my shell and heat mold them. I now ride THEM 908s. For free skating, I ride the SEBA HiLite Non-Carbon and they’re the best skate for pure rolling that I’ve ever owned. They have an integrated liner that makes them super responsive, and they’re a good 150 less than the carbon version. Even my Salomon ST9s were very responsive, because you could heat mold the liners. That, combined with the lacing system made them fit so well. So yes, fitment is greater than material alone.

You must have been reading my mind. I have been using Rollerblade Endurace for the past year +. I just recently got a pair of Flying Eagle F5s w/ 3x110 setup. The F5s is slightly heavier. Otherwise, there are no drawbacks. The cuff of the Flying Eagle F5s is actually slightly lower than the cuff on the Endurace. I really felt when you said that carbon skates can seem "flimsy" while the molded plastic feels really "solid" and secure. I noticed this when comparing the differences between the boots. The Flying Eagle F5s is really stiff, responsive, and comfortable. The Rollerblade Endurace is a great skate as well. Thanks for posting.

I have the gawds frankie skates they are not carbon but soft boot. I have been skating for the last 18 years and my skates for the first 15 of them were trs they were heavy. After turning 30 your feet will really thank you for those 500g you take off while skating. It really did make a difference to turn to lighter skate. And I like my skates flexible what the power transfer in plastic skates you earn is really nothing compared to a comfortable and flexible one that you can bend easily. Yet again as you said it's all about personal preference and that's mine.

Thanks bro, mm, i have plastic boot, i love free skating, and, was planning to buy a carbon skate, FR SPIN, but, i have seen some comments from pro skaters and they say the same than you, for free skate carbon is not better because is not as comfortable as plastic. Thanks for you help, i am open to more opinion about.

I was actually planning on buying the USD carbon brown, but decided against it and bought the M12 charcoal. For my freeride setup i have the FR1's and the Seba Trix2, both are pretty amazing, the FR1's are incredibly comfortable, but i do feel they are a bit lacking on responsiveness compared to the trix 2. The trix 2 are amazing for powertransfer, look great and are still quite affordable but lack in comfort and have no proper abrasive pads, resulting in the front and sides looking pretty beat up after a few months ;o

I have not yet owned a pair of high end carbon skates. I tried some Powerslide Tau but they did not fit and had to send them back. The place I ordered from did not have the next size so I took it as a sign that i did not need $500 skates. The closest I have gotten to a higher end light skate some Powerslide Reign inline hockey skates and they are the cheaper plastic version. They are great but I don't know that if it is worth going up to that $400 and up range. Every skate I have owned has been in the $200 range and I love all of them. So I guess I can't vote against carbon if I haven't skated them. But I'm happy to take your advice! I'd rather have 2 pairs of $200 skates that each can do something different for me (like one pair of urban and one pair of aggressive) instead of investing in a $400 pair of skates that can do only one thing.

Thanks Bro, eye opener.haha..I might as well invest into a good frame like Endless with good liner like Intuition for better performance than go for expensive Carbon. I also noticed that the carbon skates doesnt look as good after may be a year as compared to a rock solid plastic boot, this is for people looking for long term investment.

@rollife
@rollife 4 года назад
I tried to create the ultimate setup many times and I came back every time. It's the case now with the urban skates and it will be the case with my next aggressive setup as well. It's funny how I can skate carbon boots or intuition liners but when I put my foot in a razors cult, stock liner, it feels like coming home. I also felt that with these RB80s... something about that nice, cheap, squishy liner and that raised heel position... it's just amazing. The only thing I change is the insole. As long as I have my sidas insole, everything works out just fine!
@ULTIMATEZEROINLINE
@ULTIMATEZEROINLINE 4 года назад
rollife Yea man I totally understand what your saying. It’s pretty much all in your head. I agree on the razors perspective. As I skate Razors 80% of the time, I always come back to the Cult boot. You shouldn’t let the price change your mind as in “I need an upgrade” because you usually don’t. A skate so affordable (like the Cult) goes so far. That boot would definitely last longer than a Carbon, because of what you said. Those skins are very delicate and look like shit after a few sessions. Soft boots...they feel good for a little bit, but then They end up getting TOO sloshy and flexible. Just stick to the boot you feel most comfortable in. It doesn’t matter what it is. I buy skates ALL the time just to see what the hype is about. I still go back to a plastic skate.

@dgiles920
@dgiles920 3 года назад
A lot of it really comes down to fit. Carbon boots are more rigid and less forgiving in terms of fit. The material is also more difficult to work with from a design and manufacturing standpoint. I think its easier for companies to develop a good plastic boot over many iterations that's going to work well for most people than to develop a carbon boot that will even work well for some people.
@kchappelle

I have a pair of urban carbon skates that are okay, but they look beautiful. I get really pissed if I take a fall and scuff them up. I'm just getting into aggressive and falling is part of the learning process, so I bought the Aeon 60 plastic boot. I don't care if I scuff it up. I'd hate to think of buying an expensive carbon boot in aggressive and scuff up the skin outer shell. Give me plastic. I was looking at the CJ Seba skate and it comes in both. I thought there's no way I'm spending $500 us on the carbon when I can get the same looking skate in a plastic shell for a fraction of the price.

@@rollife The size 13 is just a little too tight for me in the toe area by just enough to make it uncomfortable and I think that is as big as they make them. @rollife
@rollife 4 года назад
@@PlanetOwner You might... I personally have given up on trying to make skates fit my feet. I just want something solid that works for me and feels like home when I put my foot inside. And trust me, I've done it all. Baking, blow-dryer, finding the perfect insole, extra thin socks, intuition liners, cutting out pieces of the shell underneath the soulframe or shaving material off inside the skates with a dremel.... in the end it was always still tight and not really comfortable for longer than 2h. I was never happy and the price tag was always hefty. So if you've got something that you're happy with, that works for you - stick to it...
