I am trying out the Platinum Ink Converter for the Kuretake Number 13 Refillable Brush Pen. In this video I will try the Ink Converter for the first time filling it with Dr. Ph. Martin's BLACK START matte ink.

Switched to a convertor myself when I first got the pen, no problems with the converter or pen. Much better than using cartridges.

I started with the cartridge that came with the brush pen simply to have a baseline for comparison against my own ink.

Hi David. Jim from Madrid, Spain (a New Yorker expat living abroad). I'm fairly new to Brush Pens (I usually use Fountain Pens with different nibs in my art) and I didn't know about this Kuretake #13 Brush Pen and it's compatibility with the Platinum Ink Converter... Which is perfect for me 'cause I was looking for something similar to carry with me for my sketching outdoors and being able to use my own ink selection as I do with my Fountain Pens, so Thanks for this video and info... it really helps! Great to see some options! I picked up one of these brush pens recently and I just loaded it for the first time today. I’ve been a little hesitant, worried that it might be hard to clean, but it’s so smooth and I’m glad I opened it up. Have you had any challenges with maintenance? I got an extra tip just in case but I’d still rather keep the current one as nice as I can for as long as I can.

I'd love to hear and update on what you think of this pen! I had a Kuretake no 8 and it eventually fell apart: P Wondering if the 13 holds up better.

I just bought the #8 pen for a week and I love it. Was wondering how long will the brush bristles last? I plan on refilling the ink with a syringe.

My advice is to say which converter No in a future video. Platinum makes several , 500, 800, etc.

I definitely agree it’s helpful to specify, but in the mean time, 7:26 if anyone in these comments is curious, looks like the JetPens page he showed is 800A. It’s at 7:26.

you know you can refill the used up cartridge with a blunt needle siringe right?

Yes. I did a video about the blunt syringe….the ink converter is very convenient to use.

Do you prefer the kuretake 13 to the Pentel Pocket brush? I use the Pentel all the time, its very difficult to consecutively do very fine lines with it, at lest for me. Can you please make a vid with how best to fine line with the Pentel Pocket brush, please

I do find the Kuretake to be a better brush pen. Some of the reason is probably because of the ink converter option

You may want to try the pentel fine brush pen the blue one it has a cosistant finer line and you can open the barrel and fill with your own black waterproof ink

I almost ruined my natural bristle kuretake with this same ink. It started drying in the bristles and i had to clean it. I switched to the Dr. PH Martins Ocean fountain pen ink. It's not as nice of a black but it is waterproof and matte finish.

Interesting…so Kuretake I have is the synthetic bristle version and so far it seems to be working okay. I really like the Black Star ink so I hope I can continue to use it.

@@davidpentecost Then I will have to try the nylon bristle one. I love my ink and really don't want to change.
