Thanks for the songlist! Now for beginners and alike, add these to your preferred streaming App in a new folder/playlist. Play along with them consistently as a practice tool and you'll soon be the life of any party.
Dude, this is the most comprehensive lesson I’ve seen yet. For a beginner guitarist like myself, this video clicked a lot of things into place. Good job.
What am amazing teacher. I'm a beginner playing for a year or two. It's so crazy how every string in one chord, strummed differently or with different rhythms can be altered to play so many tunes. Crazier that a little time and patience each day can transform me from someone the neighbors used to curse at, to now them knocking on my door so I can play for them. Whoever is learning out there, keep practicing a little and know youll break through to another level. Thanks for the great tips and lessons
This was exactly what I was looking for. After getting my open chords down and learning to change between them I wanted something that can give me some variation and or something to actually play rather than just working through random changes. Awesome mix in here of stuff to work on in terms of rhythm and changing chord in time. Would love a video on the ones where you have given simplified versions to take them up to the next level.
I feel I've found gold. I had listened to other guitar channels but I felt they were all missing something and they cudn't hold me. Not so this channel, this is the one for me, it has spoken to me lol. I've been playing guitar for maybe two years now but my tuition was halted by covid lockdown so really I'm pretty much self taught and there is so much I don't know. I'm a grandma but I love music and I love playing guitar and your channel is where I'll be learning from now on in. Thank you!
It’s been said hundreds of times below but I have to add my thanks as well for an absolutely terrific guitar video lesson. Please keep them coming. Many thanks!
It's pretty cool for you to keep it nice and basic. When I was starting out as a beginner I tried to learn when the man comes around by Johnny Cash, and it had a complicated pattern I could grasp. I didn't have an example of a basic version for me to play, got frustrated and stopped learning it :( I'm glad that beginners can turn here and see a way for them to start off, and then a way to get better :)
Thank you for breaking it down, these are really the only chords I know so far,. When you make it so simple to learn it's hard to put my guitar down. Respect
So I initially learnt how to G with three fingers but actually now that I've practiced doing the four finger method, it actually feels and sounds better/fuller. Still need to practice the chord switching especially trying to force my ring finger to stay anchored when going from G to D or the C9 chord, most of these songs I don't really care for but it's all good practice :) I mostly like to play metal songs though but the chords are really useful and helps the fingers get stronger. Thanks for the free lessons
That 4 finger G is used in a few songs that i think you might like. Wish you were here by pink floyd. Wonderwall by Oasis. Alice in Chains also uses that 4 finger G a lot but they tend to drop all strings down a halfstep. AS in the low E string is now a D# (or Eb depending on how much of a technical prick want to be - at the end of the day they, D# and Eb are the same damn note) Still playing?
Love your channel Mike...songs us 40 somethings can relate to...I’ve finally decided to really work on playing well before I’m 50 (2 years) instead of being a so-so guy who can play the beginning of 200 songs 🤘🏻
thank you just what I need after suffering braindamage.. simple instructions , to thepoint walkthrouhs and lovely songs to play!!! good job!! greetings,BlessedBe!!
I'm a drummer learning to play guitar and I just laughed when you said we transitioned into cuz I would just brings back memories of the band always like a just transition over not so easy for the drums now lol love your content always good professionally done
the first time i watched this video i couldn’t get over how beautiful that guitar is, 2 weeks later i own it thanks to you, thanks for all the great videos!!!
Just started playing the guitar again after giving up two previous times, your videos are the best and makes me want to keep going. Simple instruction and easy pace! Thank you very much!!!
I love this video. I'm learning to play and I just really know those chords. I have lung cancer and I've been learning to play to take my mind off everything and the pain. This video is exactly what I've been looking for. Thank you so much for this.
thanks for this, after less than 2 mins you have shown me and i learned it and as the entire 21 song lesson is based on the 4 chords it means you learn all the differant strumming and plenty of fills as well, this is terrific. I seen some great guys taking forever to do anything at all and treating the viewer like an 8 month old child with adhd, ok a bit extreme but i'm sure alot of us numpty's can become much better much quicker and smile for the first time in decades, thanks i'm a follower buddy
Man I wish I had this lesson a year ago. Learning these shapes, and the suspensions of these chords just by raising and dropping fingers, and moving the bass... so key to creating the pop sounds we all love so much. Awesome lesson!
Thanks brother , subscribed to your channel a couple weeks ago. I'm a beginner just learning and the main type of music i'm interested in learning is Sabbath , Pantera ,Stevie Ray , AC/DC , Johnny Cash and old school traditional blues , in the style of mississippi Fred McDowell , Leadbelly , RL Burnside etc.... Thanks for making it easy to follow!
Could have also included Skid Row "I Remember You" and Poison "I won't forget you"... But great selection of songs and so many more to play now! Thank you
Great video. I'm a drummer, but I'm also a wanna-be guitarist/big 80's guy and I appreciate all the videos I've seen of you playing the great solos of the 80's. Love this particular video and how you break down all these songs to the basic chords and make it simple for guitar beginners like me. I appreciate what you do. Please keep posting. Many, many thanks.
Man, honestly.... thank you for this content! I'm a returning guitar player after a 15 year hiatus - I've been browsing youtube looking for refreshers and reminders on little things that I've forgotten over the years and stumbled upon your page. I can honestly say you were meant to be an instructor, If you ever would consider doing personalized lessons online - zoom, skype, discord, whatever.... PLEASE Let me know as I've recently fell back in love with guitar and I would really like to continue expanding my knowledge and skills. However one issue I have found is: I'm just not sure exactly where I should place myself within your lesson structure seeing as I've learned some of this stuff when I was a kid, some things I naturally figured out, not that you're doing a bad job because I would recommend your videos to people that genuinely have never held a guitar... I do have 4-5 years of self taught experience so I'm not quite a beginner but not very advanced... Anyways man, hit me up with a reply or a DM, I've subscribed. Thank you for your effort.
I don’t understand why anyone would give this video a thumbs down? Why? I think it’s really helpful for people just learning to work on cord changes. Gives something basic to work on while learning and getting better. Good video bro. Keep up the good work. I am telling you it is really helpful and cool that you did that. Thanks!!!!
You are correct, sir. Every Breath You Take is about a stalker. Sting says he was surprised to learn that it had become quite popular at weddings. Although there is no subtly about the lyrics whatsoever, they're often misinterpreted to be romantic. Of course SOME people's idea of romance IS stalking,so......I suppose that,to THOSE people, the lyrics really ARE romantic.
Capo Hack PENCIL & RUBBERBAND / hair tie Pencil at the fret Put rbber band on one side of pencill, go behind the neck with rubberband and attach to otherside of pencil. BRILLIANT !
I’m trying to motivate my daughter to want to actually pick up the brand new guitar that she asked me to buy her but she gets freaked out with thinking there’s a thousand chords you would need to know to even play guitar. I tried to explain to her that if you listen to a lot of these songs out there, (even the popular ones that she’s familiar with) most likely only three or four chords are used throughout the entire song (unless it goes elsewhere in the song with a different chord progression). Knowing that I can share your video with her may very well be an eye opener. Also, the fact that later in the video you are demonstrating how the pitch changes by using a Capo without changing the chord patterns you provided or the need for Bar Chording ( in higher Keys) which may come to her, later. Guess I’m buying her a Capo after she watches this video once she understands how just these four chords are used in many songs and gets back to wanting to play. I play mandolin an guitar myself so anytime she’d want to know other chord patterns I’d be more than happy to show her. But again, I have to get her motivated with this video! Thanks for taking the time to post this ! I hope all is continuing to go Well with you and your family during this pandemic! I’ll keep you posted!
Just learning and these songs will be fun to do as I practice my chord changes. Having multiple songs to do keeps it interesting rather than just going back and forth between a couple of chords repeating it over and over. Thanks.
Never even thought about learning most of these songs, but WOW. So glad I watched this video. We all need lessons like this from time to time so a person can realize how musical they already are. Great job!!
Thanks for sharing all your hard work. I'm also a guitar teacher and I like watching your videos to pick up pointers on teaching, you have an awesome technique. Rock on Mike !!!
Absolutely the best instructional video after having learned the basic core shapes, as it opens up a whole new world of the beginnings of individual lead playing within a cord progression. Thank you for your expounding upon the next step from strummed cords to arpeggio picking, a point in time that is explosive in the development of a persons creative individuality.
These chords are really perfect for beginners, positioning your fingers when changing chords is relatively easy and you already have a great range of telling a story within these four chords. You'll quickly have a sense of achievement.
Love it! I knew there were a million songs that used cowboy chords but you put a butt-load of em all in a 20 minute video! Good job citizen! Rando Rules!
I guess my take away from this lesson is that now that I have these chords mastered, I should start focusing on strumming patterns. Ive been stuck wondering why I know the chords but always seem to naturally play the same rythym...It took me a few months to master the chords and smooth changes, so I think a few months of working on patterns is a safe bet....thanks!!
just came across this incredible site and my man i applaud you for sharing your gift on how to make lessons much easier brilliant and thank you once again
This is a really good lesson. I see you are a 90s rock fan like me! This is great for me to practice chord progressions & strum patterns. Thank you for making it easier for beginners.
Being a beginner guitarist, I really enjoyed this video. May I suggest another song to possibly fill the 22nd slot? I was noodling yesterday with those similar chords and it reminded me of a great song by Bob Seger from his Grts Hts. It’s called #StillTheSame - I found most the chords on my own after playing the song a few times and using the Circle of 5ths. Then I polished it up by looking up the tab. No Capo required! Love #BobSeger 🎸
Great lesson, but you left out (from the hair-band genre) Skid Row's "I Remember You", and Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive", just to name a couple! Thanks again Mike, always fun to watch!
