Here after the news of him taking the job in Detroit. I was never a fan because he was never Hawk. Hawk and the Sox were a pair like pb and j to me. Hearing a different voice just didn't do it for me. Listening to his story and understanding what he's overcome to get to that point has put a pit in my stomach. I didn't truly appreciate him while he was with the Sox. Incredibly inspiring.

It's funny, I am a die hard Mets fan but noticed through watching MLB highlights how good Benetti was as an announcer and I was impressed. Seeing him goof around with Bill Walton was hilarious. I thought to myself, this is going to be the next great MLB announcer. Then I learned about his personal story and realized that this isn't only a man who is supremely talented at his job but also someone who seems like a genuinely wonderful person. We could use a lot more Jason Benetti's in the world.

Fellow Met fan here. Benetti is great as the Sox’s announcer. And his story is inspiring. But I still think Gary Cohen is still the best in baseball. Hands down. Obviously, I’m biased.

I recognized his voice being a diehard MLB fan, but didn't know his background. What a great guy and wonderful story. When he was talking about walking and said 'It doesn't look great, but it gets me where I'm going' it made my eyes water up. What an amazing perspective on life.

57 years ago (when I was 5 yrs. old) I had the memorable pleasure of meeting Vin Scully coming out of the elevator at Dodger Stadium heading to the press box. He was one of the most personable people of my memories. Thanks Sunday Morning for introducing me to Jason Benetti. May he meet many young people and leave his mark the way Mr. Scully did for me. Another baseball treasure for the ages.

Not only is Benetti the greatest Sox play-caller since Harry Caray, but he also has a great gig at ESPN doing college sports. He can write his own ticket because he's that good. Jerry Reinsdorf had better sign him to a very long term deal.

JB with or without CP is the best in the business bar none. The voice, the timing, the command of the moments big and small, the knowledge of the game, the graciousness to his partner Steve Stone and more than anything the natural warmth he exudes with every word he utters. And he does football and basketball! A guaranteed Hall Of Famer if there ever was one!

As a Cub fan, I despised the Sox when I was growing up because I despised Hawk Harrelson. Jason Benetti has changed my attitude about the Sox. He’s not an obnoxious homer and he and Steve Stone blend well together. I sense that Steve Stone is much more relaxed in the booth with Benetti than he ever was with Hawk!

@@willieholmes1483 Well, it was only for one season, as I recall. I just remembered this one: During Caray's last year with the Sox, 1981, there was a players' strike. After the strike was settled and the players went back to work, Caray talked the Sox into hiring Lou Brock as the color commentator for the rest of the season. I was pretty impressed by Brock. No, he did not have a good announcer's voice, but few of the classic, great announcers did. What I liked about Brock is that he made no comments which were irrelevant to the game. He would also break down many of the plays explaining why the fielder did what he did. Unfortunately, after that season Brock was fired after Carey went to the Cubs.
