Actually I tried this on switch first ( made a video on that too ). I recently got back into 3DS homebrew, thanks to Goodboy Galaxy. I forgot how nice it was to hold a small handheld. So got me curious and led me here. Shame the screen resolution so low 😅
@@will_termini I really tried to play elden ring on my 3ds! If it wasn't for the text thats totally unreadable it would be fine. Same as you, holding the the 3ds while playing pc games felt pretty dreamy haha. Maybe something like fallguys could work
This is exactly what I was looking for! I want to have a way to play modern pixel art platformers (from steam and other marketplaces) in a portable device with a small screen, because I find pixel art to look a lot better that way, than on a huge computer screen.
damn this is cool. i installed it and ran tekken 8. the fact that there is no noticeable input delay is crazy i actually won a ranked much at blue rank
It seems the problem I’m having with the 3DS version of Moonlight is that it is not up to date. The 3DS Moonlight version we have is 2.0.0 but in order to stream from pcs running GeForce 3.0.7 or above we need Moonlight version 2.2.2 In the debug menu it seems to be spamming the message waiting for IDR frame. Attempting to open another app seems to temporarily fix it but it rly isn’t an enjoyable experience atm
I’m still struggling with the freezing situation but I found it last longer without freezing if I have nothing else running in the background other than what I’m currently using
Sadly, running SteamOS natively on a 3DS isn't possible because the 3DS hardware is very different from the hardware SteamOS is designed for. The 3DS has a custom ARM processor and limited memory and graphics capabilities, while SteamOS is designed for x86 processors and more powerful hardware. This mismatch means games and the OS itself wouldn't run properly, if at all, on the 3DS. We can dream tho :)
@@will_termini Hmmmm... I'm sure if there was any ways to run any linux distro natively (which it does sadly seem to be only a terminal at the moment) we could find a way to have steam run in big picture upon booting the distro, although we would need a distro made just for the 3ds or something to be ported somehow
It may work if both your computer and DS are connected to the same hotspot. It is also possible your mobile hotspot will isolate host from each other preventing them from communicating.
Sunshine is a similar but different tech, if you port forward you can play away from home... but I think you can already do that with steam link. The advantage sunshine/moonlight have over Steam link is there are more clients for more devices and its open source. If your happy with steam link keep using that.
@@will_terminismall question but how do you port forward? do i need to do anything? im going on a trip to nyc this weekend and wanna be able to play undertale while on the train.
I was really excited for this when I remembered... my 3DS can't connect to my local WiFi router for no reason. No other Nintendo device except my Switch actually connect to my WiFi router.
Oh that's odd, does your router not support 2.4ghz aka wifi G or N or as it's now known Wifi 3 and 4. I know the DS uses WEP only which is a nother story, but I've never had an issue with the 3DS.
@@will_termini it does support most WiFi standards, and is a WiFi 5 router, which does both 2.4GHz connections and 5GHz connections. But if I do need to go online on my 3DS, I still can use my phone's hotspot feature.
@@will_termini I actually use my phone, as it can bypass my personal WiFi signal as its own, without using my data. Sorry for the long wait, I don't use YT often.
@@andaro.77if you are still working on this, sometimes the settings for 802.11g on your router is called “setting mode up to 54mbps”. Let me know how you go
Can be a bit a bit tricky over text. But things I would do to troubleshoot. 1. Are you 100% sunshine is running? Can you access the web server locally from your Linux machine 2. Do you have any kind of firewall like UWF 3. Are your 3DS and Linux machine on the same lan? 4. Your using your lan IP via ifconfig not your wan IP right?
The developer says it will work on all all 3DS models. However the performance on the original 3DS is reportedly very bad as it's much slower. They recommend only running this on the new 3DS and new 3DS XL.
nice app. one problem. its internet streaming. stuttering, frame drops, input lag, resolution drops. no thanks, ill just stick with my 3ds and steam deck seperatley.
It's not internet streaming it's local network-based. Yes stuttering and frame drops and input lag can be an issue. As for resolution drops... I don't think you're going to see that since the DS is already so low
