The Great Dr Danie Craven gave us that wisdom when it comes to selecting a team, start with the tight head prop and his replacement, then take it from there 💪💪💪💪
Crazy thing with the ABz there starting frontrow might change to Tosi and Williams in a couple of years and i think both can play both sides of the scrum, its gonna be crazy to see 2 props at 6'5 and close to 150kgs and both run like mobile backrowers
Great run down Tim, love your coverage and critique of all things union, you are one of my fave rugby channels. As someone else has said below, watching the 7s I realize what fun we’re missing with no scrums of substance! Wow just watch the Oz ladies demolish the GB team, the off loads, fends and support lines have been the major differences. 🤜🤛🏆❤️
Shows the quality of front rowers out there that Taniella Tupou can’t crack the top ten. I agree he shouldn’t be there right now. After a rough season at the rebels plus, he’s out of shape. I blame the rebels for that too. I’d love to hear your opinion on where Alan Alaalatoa sits? Thought he was good at the Brumbies and has been a workhorse for the wallabies for years.
Finlay Bealham is the unsung hero in this ireland team. Soft hands against France and South Africa for important tries and always fronts up when called upon, would have him in ahead of Tahi and Newell. Lions bolter
Orsum orsum list. Still have a soft spot in my heart for Vincent Koch. One of my favourite games last season was the sharks v Clermont challenge cup semi. The scrum battle in that match was fantastic, and Koch really had to put in a big shift there
@@knoll9812not really bealham is older than furlong and jager is only a year or two younger we needed talent to come through in a big way in the next couple of years
Tameifuna & Antonio dropped off quite dramatically in the last 6 months or so. Bordeaux’s scrum got stuffed numerous times towards the end of the season. Probably still have both in my top 10 but towards the bottom of it. Will be interesting if they can bounce back next season at their ages.
I agree. Which is why I have historic form factored in. Ben Tameofuna being arguably best THP at world cup to not being in (or towards bottom of) top 10 in 9 months would make the exercise less meaningful. Or that's my thinking at least.
@@EggchasersRugbyQuietly I feel like the French have a bit of a tighthead issue. Antonio getting on & despite lots of enormous men at 3 in and around the squad no one has really staked a claim. Bamba now done his ACL too.
Hi Tim, hope you're doing well. Have you watched any of the conference finals in the MLR. Might keep you occupied while we wait for the Rugby Championship. Both matches were brilliant to watch
I expect Georges Henri Colombe to soon appear in this ranking, the guy is young, very good and he's Atonio's replacement both in La Rochelle and now for France too. Big old unit.
I realise you cannot include him on the basis of 30mins at the end for the AB's against Fiji, but keep an eye in future on Pauliasi Tosi. 140kg ex (provincial) no8 with the ball skills, came to attention when Lomax was injured for the Hurricanes, he stepped in and the Canes scrum continued on its merry way with no change.
How far off top 10 d'ya reckon Irelands next tighthead is? Its concerning that Finlay Bealham hasnt managed to supplant Furlong, and the next boys on the block are very untested.
I thought bealham was worth a shout for 8 or 9, but do you know something there's real talent behind furlong with finlay jager and o toole but I really hate that they won't try them, loosehead is the real problem and I really hope o tooles conversion to lh goes well because we need it and a player as good as him needs to be in the 23
@@cianhalley9266 I'd actually forgot about Jager! Good shout there. O'Toole at LH could be a good move and with the IRFU making an active push for homegrown props, hopefully some serious talent comes through soon because asking Healy to cover the whole front row is a bit bad considering how proud we are of our school system.
Thomas du Toit gets robbed as he is a bok. He was one of if not baths best players this season on the march to the premiership final. The bath scrum was dominant in most matches. His ball carrying and breakdown threat is phenomenal. Not many props can play loose and tight with 80 minutes in the tank. If he wasn’t a bok he would play regular international minutes and easily be in this list. He should be in there after such a good season for bath in the premiership and champions cup
He's fantastic, but and personally I think he's 2nd best Bok THP. But for this list couldn't pick him on the basis of 1 game v Portugal at international level.
They can bring their Kolbe, their Dupont, their Carter or even their Lomu. I'll take my Malherbe, I'll take my Owen Franks and I'll take my Phil Vickery, thanks.
Vincent Koch cannot be number 8, he is so incredibly solid in the scrum and has been solid in open play. Kicked an amazing 50 22 in the Challenge Cup final too!
The two scrums are pretty even. The reason the final had parity was due to Bongi being injured early, the we had a loose forward playing at hooker. That negated the scrum.
I think Malherbe is at the back end of the top ten. Other tight heads are as good at scrummaging but offer a lot more in open play as well. Malherbe is a weak ball carrier too in my opinion.
Malherbe isn't the best scrummager but he is up there. He gets found out when looseheads pull down and down really take the hit (dark arts). Partly due to his height. His role isn't to carry but his defensive work is where he apparently shines.
As a Scot he is very inconsistent in big games. Always performs for Glasgow but seems to have a huge mistake in him for every Scotland game, normally at scrum time
