My God felix! This was incredible despite the end result. I really think this match should have given you an amazing confidence boost (especially if it’s true you lost 6-0 6-1 last time?) the haters in here were bringing that previous score up and you’ve really proven to them why this dream is absolutely something you can make a reality! I think you’re going to do it - I really do!

The comeback in the second set was amazing. To me it seems that you realized you had nothing to lose so you forced the returns and attacked more. You need to improve your defense tho, make the ball fly more when you are in a difficult position, this will help you recover. I would personally slice the ball so much that it would incommodate your opponent in attacking the ball (make him fear he will make a mistake by attacking it)
@schwozluv8364
@schwozluv8364 2 года назад
I STRONGLY agree here. When you’re forced on defense is when you lose a lotta points. You get balls back but you don’t turn defense into offense very often which is easier said than done ofc.
@tennisbrothers

yh true i agree, i need to buy myself more time on defence 👍
@GreatBritishBeast
@GreatBritishBeast 2 года назад
@@tennisbrothers This is what I was thinking also, as a humble onlooker. Outstanding second set striking and returns which shows you have the artillery. But knowing when to buy yourself 1 second more in ball air time with a slice, (not just when the slice is forced) x20 occasions per match say, = 20+ seconds more energy for the key moments later in the match. It's a brash calculation and assumption but could be the difference on 3 levels; end game, the point of the slice itself (forcing an error/lesser shot, buying time to reposition), but also in the game of the slice overall via saving striking and running energy. Small but compounding margins, both physical and psychological over 2, 3 or 5 sets. I came to your video from watching the 2014 Federer Monfils match and when Roger was up against it, with Monfils having the bit between the teeth, imo it was Roger's slices that made a big difference and enabled him to edge his way into a point and nullify/reset the opponent's control of it. Your tour point is coming sooner rather than later! Your 2nd set service returns made Mr 775 look out matched. Strong serves and a quality all court game. Just out of interest are you looking to end up closer to the baseline during rallies? Or you're just comfortable further back when baselining? Edit: I was reading up about that match I mentioned and this was one author's verdict which seems fitting; "Federer will need to draw on his lesson from the Monfils match: If you try to outhit him, you may not find the court. Stay within your plan of patient setup shots, effective slice and timely pressure when the percentages are there. Don’t get locked into a power duel."

Absolutely stunning. The best/most intense match you’ve had in my opinion. 2nd set was played brilliantly, really getting into the groove halfway through that set. Match tie brake was so intense you had me biting my nails for 5 minutes strait. Improving rapidly at the moment, performing really well, excellent mentality. Only thing I wanna point out is that you can try to hit your backhands with more depth and spin, don’t get me wrong your backhand is great but it isn’t as consistent in terms of depth and power compared to your forehand. Anyways I’m going to watch it a few more times. Good luck in futures, one step closer to becoming world champion. Can’t wait for next week’s video.👍🏻

Congratulations on that result! It could be absolutely awesome if you won but it is tennis. Anyway you have a very good progress and the game has changed since a couple of months ago. In this match some magic moments came after 1 set and a half. How would you describe your mindset before and after that point (you seemed a different person, more confident I would say)? . Is this a mind game or some home work with he tactical situations? I also noticed the things Karue told you about - sometimes the balls were landing short (at the half court zone) after your shots - due to a low back swing on the BH. It is better to develop some loop and throw the racket into the ball through the shoulders' level (Which you do sometimes when the opponent gives a certain rhytm)

Felix, I would be happy if you will read this comment... you are playing nice aggressive tennis. But aggressive is not in tennis everything. Maybe you know player Norbert Gombos TOP 100 player - another player from TOP 100 finalist ATP 250 Belgrade Open (against Novak Đoković) said about Gombos: "For sure, he has more powerfull strokes than Đoković, but Đoković knows in which time choose the correct shots." The same in your match - you are playing very good aggressive tennis, but that´s not everything. Look at the your oponent, he stayed calm.

That mindset shift in the second set was massive... if you can be at that level consistently atp points won't be hard to come by. I think you're absolutely doing the right thing atm as that consistent mindset will only come with experience/age and maybe a bit of mindfulness work which you're already doing with your journal etc. I also realised just how invested I am in the journey when I was white knuckling it through the tiebreaker 😂you're on your way lad!

Very nice playing Felix. Much improved - first rate playing from second set on - your return game “really” clicked as I have been harping on… that is difficult against a lefty… I am a lefty and most lefty people have really strong ball striking ability, accuracy and hand eye coordination (studies have been done in this). He should likely be ranked higher IMO and “YOU” played him blow for blow and could have beat him. Congratulations on a well played match. 😀.

Great Match. I am sure you have a tennis coach. I am myself a tennis coach. And here is my own observation. I never saw you playing before. This is the first clip. When I observe a player I tend to only look for their feet position and what they do in terms on movement and balance. My following comment is purely to assist your coach on probably something that he tells you many times. I love your backhand because you really get your feet well into the ground and leaning forward to put your weight into the ball and that is just perfect. Despite you have more confidence in your forehand, your backhand in terms of feet movement and position is really good. Now, I would really work on your forehand feet placement. If you look carefully your feet you tend to lean backwards instead of forward. You have an amazing acceleration of your stroke and ball takes speed for sure. But in my view if you can do drills with difficult shots and KEEP leaning forward putting the weight of your forward, you forehand will take another level. The service is great. Vary your ball more and will get your opponent crazy. Ultimately look at Carlos Alcaraz and the change he got since last year physically. I think you should aim towards that too. Good work and I am sure soon enough you will have way more than 1 ATP point. The tennis base is there!!! You can definitely make it!!!

When I started this video I was just hoping to see you win 4 games as that's a solid improvement. Then when I saw you *break* him, I wanted at least 6 games. The fact that you took a set and kept it close shows how much better your rate of improvement is over his rate (because lets face it, every pro is always working to improve things and are hungry for more). You said in the last video we were in for a treat and you delivered, great job! That said, regardless of win rate I may have to start calling you "Mr Tiebreak UK" :) Any chance you can post the entire match, cut for each point but with no commentary? Your volleys are as effete as a British gentleman without firmness in the wrist. Don’t drop the racquet head and step into the ball when making ball contact. And you’re inside the baseline after split stepping on the return and FREQUENTLY get caught inside the court having to scramble and retreat. Starting location may need to be backed up if you’re going to be that aggressive otherwise don’t jump forward as much as the position should be just behind the baseline.

Enjoyed the video. It was good to see you let loose in the second set, that's a better indication of where you stand. One tip though, if you're playing lefties, go to their backhand more often. The first set was full of points where you were playing as if you were playing a right-hander i.e. always going cross-court with your backhand. If you do this you're just feeding the ball to their power side. One short ball and that big looping forehand of your opponent is making you pay. Oh, and impressive set of wheels you've got there. That's ATP standard for sure. Keep up the stretching, that's the key to pace i.e. stride length. Good luck in your endeavours.
@Jss098
@Jss098 2 года назад
Fantastic one Felix! Keep it up! The one thing that I think could help is your depth on "slightly off-balance" groundstrokes could be improved. When you lay off on the perfectly balanced/positioned forehand your pace and depth is great. But watch when you are in neutral rallies on your backhand or you're slightly off balance, your depth drops significantly. The pitch of the ball is usually in the service box line or around. If you could make it deeper it will push them back and open up angles for winners and make your net game more effective. You have the speed to be able to balance/position well enough to get the ball deeper. Just my opinion but to me it seems like the biggest factor in the outcome neutral rallies. Big fan! Keep it up

A bit too aggressive in the wrong moments, in my view. Playing serve and volley at 9:9 for example.. very punchy. Would suggest playing the percentages a bit more in key moments. Nevertheless, great match and congrats on your progress so far!

Dear Felix. I'm so impressed with your tennis that had to let you know. I enjoyed the game between you both and before the end was saying to myself: Félix is playing so well that is delightful to watch -at the same time in awe with the strokes of your opponent, such a good player!-. Congrats for the impressive progression and you have a fan everytime you are on the court. You'll reach there mate!!

Keep going and your ATP points will be there before you realize. :-) Do some in-depth analysis of your match and learn from it. I noticed that in your second set you were much earlier on the shots and put a lot pressure on your opponent. Something to build on for sure. Best luck Felix. This is inspiring!

Great game. That lad wasn't better than you. You had the game to beat him. It's difficult to analyze your opponent when you're playing. This guy's a counter-hitter. He looked vulnerable on both wings to variable pace, in this case slowing the ball down. When he had to put pace on the shots himself, he went for depth rather than power. He also struggled to put power on your deeper shots, especially on his backhand. Hitting the ball short and hard against a counter-hitter means that he doesn't have to hit as hard to put pace on the ball,especially if your shot is falling in his hitting zone and around the service line. Then it's just begging to be spanked. His backhand slice was steady but unconvincing. He switched off a bit when you hit the zone. I'm starting to ramble. Just keep at it and you'll get the momentum. 💪

Well done, that was a top effort. I have watched all your videos this season and that is by far and away the best you have played. You definitely could have won that match if you had another chance at the tie break. I really hope you get your point then you can make another set of videos titled “Road to 10 ATP points!”. One tiny detail I have noticed is that you sometimes leave your opponent with a few mid court balls instead of baseline balls. Maybe get a bit more depth on your forehand and backhand (easier said than done in my case!) to make it a bit harder for your opponent. Anyway, keep up the good work and I look forward to watching your improvement over the season. Sending lots of good luck your way 😀

O man you played outstanding in this match and you were a whisker away from winning it! Your game was a totally different level today and you looked like a pro tennis player. You were serving big and you were really aggressive which was great to see. If you keep playing aggressive and keep improving, the big wins will come. I trully believe you are at a basic futures level now and belief and experience is all you need to take it to the next level. Keep going Felix as I believe you'll get your first ATP in the next few months👍

Well that’s a major accomplishment. So your game is very very strong. However in watching it, my thought is, let say your like ranking say 2500. And now you’re trying to hang and bang with so much better players. I’m not sure I see a whole lot of advantage there the odds of you becoming a better baseline player than other pros are not super high. Instead maybe focus far more on getting to the net. That’s something you could do. While everyone else is stuck at the baseline you improve at the net. So that might be a big advantage. Just a thought

Hey mate well played, your improvement has been huge, keep assessing your situations and have confidence in your game. At 9-9 in the super you were breaking even if not on top on baseline rallies. The risk vs reward for the decision to serve and volley probably wasn’t ideal. Remember he has everything to lose in that situation and serve volley will shorten his time and make him play a bit more instinctive and with guys at that level they’ll execute 9/10 times. Keep grinding!
