No cap, you were actually the better hitter with more game and more upside. Dude just went jedi mode in the 2nd set and did crafty stuff. This is one of those guys who you'll probably never lose to again if you meet him. You were firing. No shame on this one at all.

I disagree (about the never losing to him again).Tennis is not about who‘s the cleaner hitter. Sometimes you have to dig deep and just find a way to win, doesn‘t matter how and he showed “more tools“.

@@jonepoint3658 yeah that makes sense but i think he means his game is not that big and he doesnt have serious weapons so the next time round it will be much easier to face him because his game is easier to figure out.

Here's my 2 cents worth (I'm a coach in Canada). I feel your biggest problem in your game is your return. In your highlights most of your returns were falling short (especially on your FH side). In this match, your opponents serve wasn't very strong and he served a lot of serves to your FH. If you would have consistently returned with better depth you would have won that match. In order to get that ATP point, your return has to be as good as your serve. You have a great game overall, but being able to get control of the point from the return side is crucial in these close matches. Keep up the hard work!!!
@justusbeweel1109
@justusbeweel1109 2 года назад
+1. the opponent had a very weird grip on his serve, which prevented him from hitting flat serves. You should have won that serve- return dynamic, since your serve was way better than your opponents .

This was a another heartbreaker, these 10 point third sets are a nightmare, especially against a guy that likely wouldn't have been able to get another full set against you. Thanks for sharing, just keep pushing forward and the wins will come.
@joshuakorea
@joshuakorea 2 года назад
I know it's tough but you have to not be afraid of hitting the ball with pace even under pressure. Once you start doing that, you'll crush everyone. For example, in the first tiebreak, I could tell you were a little tight and you weren't hitting the ball as hard as you were and your opponent took advantage of that. Don't let the pressure not let you play your best. Wishing you best of luck going forward.

Something that your coach and you didn’t mention was that at points you were to eager to come to the net when the approach shot wasn’t the best
@hsy2448
@hsy2448 2 года назад
Def, watching the highlights, a lot of the points he lost were getting passed, the opponent was winning a lot of his net points which I think was the eventual difference in victory/defeat.
@OldHeadTrivia

I agree when you get close to winning you seem to tighten up. Many of your shots started dropping well inside the service line. Obviously, you don’t want to become reckless, but do your best to maintain aggressiveness in points that really matter. I know it’s extremely difficult. Not trying to be critical, just want to see you succeed. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for sharing. You have all the tools Felix and I think you and your coach are exactly right in saying you need to figure out what your opponent is doing and find ways to use your strengths against their struggle areas on that day. What I have noticed from a lot of videos, not many players can hang with you on the FH side. I would find ways to get into that position more often in your matches and keep trying to come forward. Maybe throw in a bit more shape on both wings to give you some depth on your rally balls. Great job and keep going.

One tip, IMHO, if you're going to step around the backhand side to hit a short forehand _ end it. Right there, hit or miss. If you're gonna step around to hit the FH then flatten that baby out and end the point win or lose. Stepping around just to rope a tight topspin is high percentage, but it really just lets him back in the point after he hit short. Don't give up court geometry once you gain it.

Shame almost there! you’ll win the next one for sure so many positive from the video your backhand was awesome! What helps me on the return get it up the middle neutralise the point, so that you don’t give angle then drag him out wide. In the tie break maybe you volleyed a couple of time when you shouldn’t of don’t, I always do that as well super hard in the moment. I thought he rolled in a couple of serves to get the volley, this is always something worth considering. Change the pace hit a heavy topspin 1st serve and plan to come in. Anyway your miles better than me, put in the hard work and you’ll get the results!

Hey man, great match , amazing effort. One small observation from my side: your net game is good. Don't be in a hurry to rush to the net in order to surprise or take away time from your opponent. I feel one should go to finish at the net when the return shot strength of your opponent is around 65% or less. Its good to take risk's and take the plunge but try to analyse the probability of the risk going towards your side. There were many balls which went straight into your opponent's hands yet you went to the net. As for the good ones I don't think I need to mention those as they were good volleys! Anyway all the best for the next tournament bud.

Obviously you could have won that match but, like some other comments suggest, you didn’t perform well under pressure. I agree with your coach as to the quick decision-making process, and I wonder if that wasn’t a mental preparation issue, which inevitably affects your shot selection. Ahh so close! Unlucky Felix. You should be encouraged that despite him being higher rated, you were probably the better player - winning more games - and you were close to winning. Keep going, you'll get there! 😄💪

Thought it was gonna be a 6-0 6-0 after first few points. I'm no expert but with your cleaner hitting, power and athleticism I thought you could have dominated points by moving him more, and going for lines. Some opportunities where you just hit back to the middle near him where I think top players would kill the point or at least set up the point by putting him on the back foot scrambling. Great potential though.

Yes - Matthew made some key point - at times where I should have made them..I learned a lot in this match!

Gutted! Thought you looked like the better, more aggressive player, but your opponent was solid too. As others said, it looked like there were some second serves you could’ve attacked a bit more. That first win is coming!
