So, I am playing every golf course in Melbourne Australia, and people have started recommending good courses in the comments sections. If you leave a recommendation below and tell me why I should play the course, I will play whatever one gets the most likes.
Stéph recommended Goonwarra because a pro-am was played here recently, and I have to say this is probably the best course I have played to date. It’s about 45mins from the city but the tee-boxes, fairways, the greens, the quality of the grass, everything was excellent. Now I found it to be very challenging and in particular a lengthily course when you play it from the black tees, if you watch the video you’ll see. There’s plenty of water hazards, sand traps, and tree lined fairways. I teed off at 12pm and was back around at 4pm, now I was walking it, but I must say a cart would have been a real benefit here.
Today I wanted to practice driving straight, and my way to hit it straight is to hit a low stringer. I call it the fairway finder. It’s not a long as my usual drive but it keeps me out of the trees and hopefully that will keep big scores off my card.
Hole 1 is a Par 4 320m. I unintentionally hit a daisy cutter here, but it finds the fairway and leaves me with 120m to the hole. I used the Golf+ app on my apple watch for this round and while the distances were on point, the club recommendations you see in the top right-hand corner are way off for some reason. I hit a 9-iron which lands to the right of the green. My chip goes close and I tap in a par to start the day.
Hole 2 is a Par 4 383m. I hit a perfect drive down the middle of the fairway. I hit a 7-iron to the middle of the green. The pins are in tough positions today because they were prepping for a tournament the following day. My first putt goes well and I take another par.
Hole 3 is a Par 3 175m. I hit a 5-iron, I catch it a bit thin and bounces of the right side of the green. I love a good greenside chip and this one gets me as close to the hole as I could hope for. It looks like a straight forward tap in, but it veers left at the last second and I miss my par.
Hole 4 is a Par 4 413m Index 1, the hardest hole on the course. My new drive strategy is working well and the stringer runs along the centre of the fairway. I take the Golf+ apps recommendation and hit a 4-iron. It comes up a bit short and I am chipping from a pocket of heavy sunlight. Again, I had a decent chip, with a relatively straightforward putt that just veers off course and the last moment.
Hole 5 is a Par 3 134m. My app reads 145m to the centre, it was into a slight breeze, with three bunkers across the front. I preferred to go long here, and long it went, straight over the back of the green. I had a tough chip here onto an uneven surface, it has a good pace but the accuracy was off. My par putt went agonisingly close and left me with a third bogey in row.
Hole 6 was a Par 4 267m. I showed some decent gameplay management here, deciding not to hit a driver, and to take the water and sand out of play by hitting a 5-iron off the tee. Thankfully it worked as planned and came up short of the bunker. My sand wedge hit the green, leaving me with a long putt for birdie. It came close and I tapped in a par to get me back on track.
Hole 7 is a Par 3 156m. I hit a 6-iron off the tee, I caught the edge of hill to the right of the green and just managed to roll on. I had a long putt form here which caught the cover of the previous hole placement and I’m not sure if it helped or hindered me, but it came up just short of the hole and I tapped in a par.
Hole 8 is a Par 5 529m. I hit a good drive down the middle of the fairway and lay up to the green with a 5-iron. It caught a bad hop and rolled towards the trees which left me on sparse enough ground for a 70m pitch at the hole. I barely made it over the bunker, but it got there and just caught the fringe of the green. My birdie putt was on the wrong line completely, but the pace was good and I tapped in a par.
Hole 9 is a 354m Par 4. It’s a slight dog-leg-right with bunkers at 200ish. I went straight over the bunkers and had a 100m pitch to the flag at the front of the green. I was right on top of the flag but just a bit too much juice on it. I had a long downhill putt for birdie and for a moment I was really excited about it, only for it to just roll on by. I tap in a par and finish out the front nine.
I was happy enough with my display here. Par for the front nine is 34 and I shot three over, with three bogeys and six pars. My main focus today was to try and keep my drives on the fairway and I was managing to do that so I was happy.

playing really well! consistency is improving, really loving it. If you are happy to drive a bit try the growling frog and club mandalay. There are also great courses down the mornington peninsula.

Hitting the fairways is making the biggest impact so far 😅 yeah I’ll definitely be looking into these courses

Hole 10 is a Par 3 160m. I hit a 6-iron and got really lucky not to find the bunker. I was chipping from the fringes and I caught it pretty well. My putt to save par just barely missed to the right and you can see that these greens a tricky, even with a fast putt like that. Hole 11 is a tricky Par 4 dog-leg-left at 349m. I cut the corner, but just barely, and it left me with a 130m up approach shot. I had a long loopy putt from the fringes for birdie, but I knew well this was just a hit and hope. It was better than expected and I tapped in a par. Hole 12 is a Par 5 493m. I hit a decent drive and manage to escape the bunkers lining the fairway. I hit a 3-hybrid and come up 20m short of the green. The flag is protected by raised hill so I try to hit a spiny shot that will check and hold the green when it lands. But I don’t get the landing that I think that shot deserved and it rolls about 20m from the flag. I basically belt it back to the hole and thankfully the hill slowed it down on the return journey and I tap in a par. Hole 13 is a Par 4 301m. I hit my worst drive of the day and end up behind some trees. I have to lay here and pitch it to the side of the green, avoiding the bunkers. My chip goes well from here and leaves me with a decent chance to save par. And I am raged that my putt rims out and I end up taking a bogey. Hole 14 is a Par 4 358m. I hit a straight drive down the middle of the fairway. I hit a 9 iron as my approach shot but I catch it a little heavy and it comes up short. I have a decent chip from the fringes and it spins the right direction for me. I thinking I’m probably going to end up two putting here and taking another bogey. But I’m delighted that a 10m putt has actually dropped for me. Hole 15 is a Par 5 429m. I catch my drive well but it just rolls into the first cut. There are bunkers and water in play ahead of me and I decided to play it safe by taping a 7-iron forward. I have about 70m to the hole and I pitch it slightly too long to the back of the green. I have a long birdie putt from here, which is never going to go in, so I just try to get it as close as possible. It’s a decent result and lets me tap in a par. Hole 16 is a Par 3 and the courses signature hole. The tee box is on a little island in the middle of the lake, and your shot is 166m over the water. I decided I better go long here and I hit a 6-iron which landed just off the back of the green. I had a long loopy putt for birdie, but it didn’t quiet catch the line I had intended and came up short. I tapped in a par happy that I stayed dry on this hole. Hole 17 is a Par 4 349m There are sand traps in play from the tee, and thankfully I was able to steer clear of them. I hit a sand wedge to the green, but it was just a bit shorter than I had hoped. So, I had a really long putt for birdie. It goes relatively close and allows me to tap in a par. Hole 18 is a 375m Par 4. I hit my drive but I lose sight of it in the sun and I have no idea where it went. I assumed I would find it, but I hit a provisional just in case. I could see the provisional in the fairway but had no idea where the first ball landed. It was getting really hot, well up past thirty degrees at this time of day, and I just didn’t have the energy to go looking for it, so I’ll just have to take a 1-stroke penalty here. To make matters worse I thinned my 5-iron approach and it ran for miles, straight across the green and into the sand. I was never as grateful that a bunker shot came out as well as it did because I was about to keel over with the heat. I tapped in a bogey putt here and ran for the shade. I had the same back nine as the front nine with 3 bogeys and 6 pars. Overall, par of the course is 70 and I shot six over. I very happy with that round and honestly, I don’t think I have ever played better golf over 18-holes. I played from the black tee as well and I thought the pins were in tough positions on the greens. So, I’m not sure if I am getting better or if this is an easy course. But it’s mostly certainly a beautiful course and one that I recommend people should play. My top tip is that you should get a cart if you are playing it. If you know any courses I should play, comment it below and I will play the most liked one. If you made it to the end hit the follow button and I’ll see you next time.

Could you check out Malvern Valley public course? I’m moving to Mlb in a few months and was looking at places to live nearby. So it would be cool to see what’s it’s like.

Before I moved to Melbourne heard it was really good and my plan was to join. Then I learned about Future Golf and decided to play all the courses I could. I’ll be there in the next few weeks.

@@lifewithg7139 how do you find future golf? Considering joining myself as I want a handicap but cant afford a club membership and also didnt want to be tied to the one course.

Personally, I recommend it and I think that it is good value. It's cheaper then playing every course individually becuase you get 12 free rounds for $350ish. You get to see alot of courses and you can get a handicap playing social rounds.
