Playing Fetch & Training my Blue Heeler 

Our 1 year old heeler Willie can't get enough of his Fetch It! We walk him twice a day and take him to the field across the street to play fetch at least 6-8 times per day. It's great exercise for him and he loves it.

Lou is a great dog. I have a Cattle dog and a German Shepherd and Chickens. Both dogs guard the Chickens (mainly from Foxes) and herd them. The Cattle dog is the boss.

Lou is awesome and having so much fun! My Blue Heeler (Quorra) loves the Chuck-it flying squirrel a little more than the ball and thrower. Fun in a wind to because it can hover so she has to predict where it's going to go. Another good command is "circle" for games like this. Basically brings the ball/frisbee back, drops it at your feet and when you say circle she goes around behind you and heads out to catch the next throw. Check some frisbee comp. vids to see how it's done.

I'm teaching my dog the basic commands now, she's sitting and starting to learn down atm. There so intelligent these dogs their amazing.

Thanks Liz and Lou, consistency is key in all routines and commands. My Heeler needs rest/chain time after active play, otherwise he goes batty. Only just 12 months. So much fun though, love him heaps

Hello Liz and Lou. Enjoying your videos. Just adopted a 10 week old Aus Catt Dog. I can keep her physically occupied with walks and play, but would like more info on challenging her MIND. Just got our second blue heeler. I original one, woody oh, is 12. And isn't too happy about it. If this new dog Charlie is half the dog Woody is I will be thrilled. I did my homework with Woody and kept him very busy throughout his life. I'm in the city but I took him to work on construction sites. Stopped at beaches stop anywhere I could to bring him. He has an incredible vocabulary. He doesn't do tricks per se. But he understands almost anything I say and does it.. sit Stay Lay down backup Lookout, Up. Down. Get your toy bring me that . Give that to Mom. Open the door. "Woody, wanna eat?" Open the door for(other dogs name) Where's candle?(he'll look and find the other dog) . Get in the truck . The birds are getting your food. You can come. . No barking. No biting. Hold up!, or wait (If we're crossng the street) "F**k you woody"(he gets mad) If I give him the finger he'll bite me. Give kisses. Get out Get inside. I go to work at clients home, and I could be in there a few hours. Hè just waits by the door. If he's on the other side of the street from me he'll sit and wait for me to tell him when to cross. I can't remember them all. They are incredible. Give them jobs and things to do. And they really won't be hyper.

I have that exact ball for my red heeler. She loves it and her indestructiBall, she herds it around the yard. Your videos are great, thanks for the ideas, my Tansy is a year old and we're still working on some training.

Does Lou get the evening zoomies?

Was he crazy for the ball since he was a puppy, or did the drive built up as he grew older?

Show me how he does with another dog in vicinity of his ball?

Can anyone help me with choosing whether to get a male or female cattle dog. We have three acres, with chickens and a horse and three kids. We’re about to adopt a cattle dog x kelpie puppy. I am researching researching researching because I know these dogs need LOTS of stimulation. Would we be better off with a male or female cattle dog, or does it make no difference?
