Mutants were a known Science fiction concept before the bombs dropped like they are in our world, so when the salespitch guy talks about hostile mutants, they mean it as a hypothetical over actual mutants. Also Codsworth is designed to be like a "British butler" he says "Ma'am" but the accent makes it sound closer to mum.
Cooper from the show was a ghoul, but the enemy ones you were being attacked by are the feral ghouls, like what Lucy fought inside that Super Duper Mart where Snip-Snip was at. Cooper wasn’t the exception; there’s actually a lot of non-feral ghouls in Fallout 4. You’ll meet quite a few of them around the Boston area. My faves in 4 are Hancock, Daisy, Kent Connelly, and Arlen Glass. The first one mentioned can actually become one of your companions in the game! He’s awesome 😊
I was totally amazed when I discovered Fallout 3. I played it so much that I started having dreams about it as my subconscious mind tried to figure out how to help me survive. I still remember one dream in which a sniper was hunting me in the dark wasteland, and I rushed his position only to see a boy in ragged clothes trying to rack another round as he yelled, “I’m getting hungry just looking at you!” I looked at my compass and multiple red targets were approaching. Only later did I realize that I must have dreamed it.
Tragic indeed. Such as Kellogg just butchering the Sole Survivors wife with a Magnum 44. Even if it was not brutal and bloody, I found it unfortunate that Kellogg decided to just abandon his mother, never to see her again.
@@STOCKHOLM07 Excuse me? Husband protagonists name is not Kellogg but Nate. Regardless of was it Nate (husband) or Nora (wife) who survives, they find themselves unable to forgive Kellogg their spouses murder and end up exacting revenge. Kellogg is the primary antagonist of Fallout 4 storyline and that cannot be changed by players choice at any point of the game.
I too tried Fallout 4 after finally growing bored with Skyrim, and it ended up being a great decision on my part. Love all the new games that have come out like Rdr 2, Ghost of Tsushima, GOW series… etc etc, and FO4 is the game I always come back to after completing those. Nothing but praises for this game
I'm also loving it so much after Skyrim! Environment is a huge factor in my enjoyment of a game, and a big reason I loved Skyrim (because of the nature). I always brushed off Fallout games because I thought it'd look barren and ugly, but that's nothing some modding can't fix! It's so fun to play coming from Skyrim.
Fun fact. A lot of Skyrims coding was reused for this game. For example, the code that makes dragons work in Skyrim? An edited version of that code is used for the Vertibirds (helicopters).
Good news is that dogmeat is considered an essential character and can't die! You also don't need to use stimpacks on him as he regenerates his health!
He can die trust me it takes alot but I had him die and it said dogmeat has died lucky I saved right before then I reloaded it.i don't know if it was a glitch but he died lol
Oh my goodness. ... The whole thing with exploring the elevated freeway and your dog falling off the side randomly; everyone runs into that while playing the first time. So much so that its become a common gripe/joke. . ... "Oh! Another highway. Time for my dog to fall off."
One thing that you can do, if you choose, is to have a save right before the exit from the vault. That way you can start a game, without going through the initial beginning sequence again.
All of those random quests that popped up when you left the vault are free 'creation club' content (microtransaction mini add-ons) included with the latest update. I would ignore them unless you stumble across them in your travels, as some of the weapons and armour can be quite overpowered early on. Codsworth has hundreds of names recorded (some quite funny) so he can address the player by name.

This is the first time I have seen anyone take food from Codsworth. This game started as a parody of 50's culture and the promised of free energy from nuclear power, flying cars and a robot in every household. That's why the game has a 50's-early 60's decor with huge cars, white picket fences, and radioactive board games, etc.
My favorite game of all time. First played it when i was maybe like 12-13 with my dad, each night we'd swap who was playing and would laugh at every easter egg, all the teddy bears trapped under waste bins, mannequins strangling skeletons, and jangles-the-moon-monkey driving cars 😂 I probably have upwards of 4000+ hours across 3 generations of xbox's, and a laptop lol. Can't wait til the next game, or at least the next elder scrolls installment, I'll probably call in sick to work for the first couple days after launch 😅
FO4 greatest strength compared to others in the franchise, in my opinion, is the map. It is extremely realized, filled with character in the various zones, and at times extremely vertical. In some areas you can explore upwards just as much as outwards.
@@genkigirl4859 I've used it at the beginning of the game to conserve ammo and health, but as I level up and get better weapons, I don't see the need for it anymore.
If it's helpful to mention it, the laser musket is much more powerful if you crank it multiple times before firing. I think the maximum is six times, which makes the shot six times as powerful.
One of the problems I have with the latest update is the start of quests right out of the vault ("why do I know that?"). These are Creation Club additions that aren't handled in a story progression friendly manner - they feel forced. Discovering notes, talking to NPCs, other methods that other quests use should have been incorporated. Anyway, glad you are playing, have fun!

Welcome to the world of Fallout! Yeah, the opening was pretty traumatic the first time I played it too! Hope you’re enjoying the game so far! If you haven’t yet, if you venture south from Sanctuary, there’s a location called Sunshine Tidings Co-op, that has a magazine in a cabin with a red door that will give you twice the amount of meat when killing animals and bugs in the wasteland. Very helpful grabbing early on. 👍 The spam of quests you received once leaving the vault was content added from a recent next-gen update released around the time the TV series premiered. It’s designed for mid-level characters, so I’d suggest letting them sit in your quest list while you get acclimated to the game!

@@ShesEmma It’s definitely an addicting series! I started playing back with Fallout 3, but 4 is my favorite. New Vegas is a lot of fun too! You’ll have your hands full with 4’s content though, especially with the DLCs! 😄
They really shouldn't have dumped those on us right after leaving the Vault. For experienced players it is just annoying but for new players it could be confusing as to what your real first quest is intended to be.
@@theinsaneshecklador6598 Definitely. My Dad started Fallout 4 recently after becoming a fan of the series after watching the TV show with me. He didn't realize that the new quests he got spammed with after leaving the vault were meant for later on in the game. I had to help him out a lot after being overwhelmed with the tough fights when he tried taking on a few of the quests. It really should have triggered once players reached around level 25, as any earlier is pretty tough to manage unless you're a longtime veteran of the game.
My first first video games were in arcades, pre-console era. At 62, I now own multiple Xbox’s, PS4’s, a PS5, and a gaming laptop. My first exposure to Fallout 4 was on an underpowered office class PC. The game barely ran. I could only explore in first person with some frame skipping. If I ran into anything that moved, it was just too many polygons and the game would crash, but I was hooked. I’m still playing it, Skyrim, and now No Man’s Sky. I love sandbox games that feature exploration, gear acquisition, and some role playing.
There is a really cool mod called "Videos of the Wasteland" that lets you repair the screen of the Starlight Drive-In and watch movies on it. Granted, it can only handle about 3 minute movies, but it's cool. It comes with two of the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. ads, then players have made other movies you can download also.
I'm an older guy (60+) and my first RPG was Oblivion, then Skyrim a few years ago. I didn't think I'd find another game that I liked as much until I discovered Fallout 4 last year. Now I've done two playthroughs and really enjoy watching others play as well, so thanks for doing this playthrough.
All those quests that popped up at the beginning are from the recent revamp, and I assume they popped up so people coming back to the game would get them rather than having to run all over an already heavily-explored world hoping to trigger one. You can ignore most of them for now, although do check your map so you can see where they are. And yeah, Corvega is a heavy-combat thing, but lotsa loot.
Fallout 4 = Skyrim with guns! Not exactly, but enough of the game mechanics and underlying files are similar. Once you get familiar with the game, a replay in Survival mode with mods is an even better experience.
in case no one tells you, Cosworth is based on a British Butler or Manservant. He calls his female employer MUM which is the English version of Ma'am (Madam). Mum is also what Mothers may be called.
Subbed. I thought your build was possibly the worst one I've ever seen but you need endurance, as you take hits. You're also a great shot and don't even use VATS, so agility could practically be a dump stat. Nice job taking your first steps into a much larger world.
also, a bit of extra deathclaw lore that sadly isn't really explained much in most of the games: The Deathclaw is not a natural mutant. They were a government experiment made before the war, pretty much a walking bio weapon. they are mostly made from a Jacksons chameleon, but possess the dna of other animals added into them i believe. unlike most animals in the wastes, Deathclaws ARE pretty intelligent creatures.
a bit of an interesting fact is that Every fallout game prior to 4 (and even after 4 since this is the same for 76.), the protagonist is always a blankslate character for you, the player to project on. Fallout 4 went in a different direction, in that rather than the game being a story of a blankslate character, it's the story of either Nate or Nora, the two protagonists who might have the most amount of canon backstory and character to them. A lot of people whine and hate this, and i can see where they come from, but i'm personally fine with it. Also, don't worry, most of the trees are probably still alive and still have leaves on them most of the year, They are dead in the game due to a design decision to make the game permanently set in the dead of autumn. there's still piles of autumn leaves all over the place, suggesting that these trees still have their usual lifecycle
After finding out that she's been accepted into the local Vault: "I've seen the show; sign me up!" Gee, this really IS your first "Fallout" game, huh? =)
Nice to see more people discovering this game. Coming from Skyrim, you should pick it up pretty quickly. Good luck! 2 tips, don't know if you use them or not in other games, but subtitles are nice. Also, the ➡️ dialogue response is usually a "mean" response.
It has been so fun to play a Skyrim adjacent game, but a shooter and a completely different world! And thank you for the tip! I might get that mod that tells you what the dialogue options actually are.
just so others know, unless your in survival mode your dog/companions can't be killed. They just go down and will get back up very soon. No need to heal them or worry about them.
Survival Mode they can't be killed, but if you don't give them a stimpack they go back to where you found them/last left them when you dismissed them so you need to go recruit them again.
Fallout 4 is one of the best games ever made. Bethesda and Microsoft screwed up. They did not expect the series to draw so much attention to the games. They missed a HUGE opportunity. A remaster of Fallout 4 and a few DLCs would have sold like crazy. People have been screaming for a Fallout 4 remaster for years now. Even a new DLC for Fallout 4 would have sold well. They literally missed out on possibly millions of dollars of game sales. I like running mods in this game, but only for visuals and such. There are tons of mods to add green to the landscape. Trees and plants are 100 times more resistant to radiation than humans so the Commonwealth should have been overgrown, but just adding leaves to the trees and such helps a lot. I do a lot of settlement building mods. Even without mods the game is great. There are a lot of NPCs, a crazy amount of side missions, and even 4 main factions. A lot of people will say Fallout New Vegas is better, but Fallout 4 sold far more copies, has far more current players, and has a far more active and larger mod community. It also does so many thing better than Fallout NV. You need to get in the habit of basically looting everything. Those missions that popped up in the start are the free missions they added from the Creation Club. Just ignore them for now. I am not sure if you purchased this will all the main DLC, like Mechanist, Nuka World, and Far Harbor, but the DLCs are really good, especially Far Harbor. Vault 88 is not so good and contraptions and traps are kind of a waste. I would do the main mission before doing the DLCs. The DLCs though will start triggering when you get to I think level 30. No missions are timed accept some of the random settlement missions or attacks on your settlements, but it is not that big of a deal if they fail. And try not to get overwhelmed by your list of missions. You trigger them by just hearing random conversations. Just let them pile up for a while. Don't completely ignore them forever as some of the side missions are great. Followers like Dogmeat are unkillable. You can revive them in combat with a Stimpack or they will recover on their own when combat is over.
I also thought that the plants should have bounced back much more quickly! The Boston Natural Surroundings mod is one of the only mods I got, and it made a big difference on the beauty of the game.
i also started with this game this year and i love it. i don't know the other fallout games, but this is crazy. i love to build settlements and play with all the freaky stuff there. ❤ nice to see that not just me is playing this game 10 years later...

Honestly, I'm disappointed with the GOTY deal. I bought it at launch. Nuka World was beautiful, but hot garbage as a DLC. Far Harbor was entirely awesome, making stats and perks do extra things in dialogue options, a nice touch that existed in previous Fallout titles, but missing in vanilla FO4. Automatron was okay. It was fun and being able to build a robot army is a dream for pretty much any supervillain. Or hero, if that's your thing. But there's no excuse for Wasteland Workshop and Contraptions to cost money. Mods that unlock game assets as buildable settlement objects are basically all superior and free.
yeah this game is special. s.p.e.c.i.a.l. i bought the goty edition for 12.99 in the ps store. i think the contraptions and wasteland workshops could be one dlc. i love the automatron dlc and i like nuka world, although it is a little strange to walk through an amusement park and play arcade games while searching for radaway. far harbor is too creepy to do funny things. but otherwise it is a short but serious sequel of the main story.

@@plain_vanilla_0 Yep. Far Harbor was what DLC should be. It felt like they made Nuka World not really knowing what they were going to do with the assets and just sort of threw enemies all over the place as an XP farm. Maybe if you play an evil character, it can make sense. But the way the base game is set up, including the immortality of Preston Garvey, makes playing an evil character in the base game senseless.
There's actually a huge bank of names that Codsworth can speak in the game (including a lot of rude ones) so he will call you that instead of 'Mum' if you choose one that the voice actor recorded
Best thing she can do is get Science 4 perk and Cap collector Perk maxed If she builds Water purifiers in Sanctuary you make up to 760 bottled waters and have 999 settlement water a day just take out of work bench and put in a locker 15k waters = 200k caps roughly.
@@ShesEmma it's purified water cans but yes you can make them just gotta store all Drinks in a Locker not the workshop because if you have more than 10 drinks in the workshop then it won't make them, but Fusion Generator wired up to the water purifiers in the building menu is how you do it.
I've been playing Skyrim for YEARS.......right up until I saw the Fallout TV show, then my work mate told me to try Fallout 4. I bought 4 THEN found out it was Bethesda. I haven't touched Skyrim since. :) I am glad you enjoy!!!
Ignore most of those pop up quests. They'll just get you killed at the beginning of the game. They lead to optional weapons, but the things guarding them are way too strong for you at the beginning. Skyrim was 2011. Fallout 4 was 2015.

When I first started playing Fallout, there are so many things I didn't know, I had to restart the game several times before I figured out even basic things. Partially because I just wasn't paying attention to little "pop ups" on the upper left side of the screen that tell you how to do certain things, like how to exit your Power Armour. I ran around with my Power Armour on until the core ran out because I didn't know how to take it off. I also didn't know I was suppose to rebuild Sanctuary and simply left for my first mission without doing that. Then I had to depend on the doc in Diamond city to patch me up. If you have your settlements built up, you never need a doc, because you can just use the water pumps to restore your health. I got trapped in Polymer Labs on my first play through because I couldnt figure out the puzzle to escape and died of radiation poisoning.
The game tells you his name several times during the little pre-war intro. It's Nate. You missed quite a bit of narration and dialogue regarding Shaun, Nate's background as well as your character's background(Nora), their missing dog. Clicking on items around the house prompts your character to reveal a bit of background on them. You were also supposed to comfort the baby before you entered your cryopod as well but you skipped it and went in too soon XD Missed your first melee weapon on the crate next to the first radroach encounter.
58:51 - *“That was actually a lot of fighting, for very early in the game.”* It sure was! I was flabbergasted when Preston Garvey sprang a Minutemen mission on you, before you even made it all the way back to Sanctuary! I know that Preston constantly saying "Another settlement needs your help" is one of the biggest memes of _Fallout 4_ (basically the equivalent of "I used to be an adventurer like you…"), but this was _ridiculous!_ That industrial plant in Lexington is one of the bigger, more populated Raider strongholds at the start of the game, so I'm amazed you made it through that gauntlet, this early. Normally you'd escort the settlers back to Sanctuary, do a couple short tasks to help them settle there, which introduces the settlement building system, and _then_ Preston would start sending you all over the map to help random settlements. Maybe it's because you accidentally activated the settlement workshop in the Red Rocket station and went into "building mode" for a few moments at 31:52 and that somehow short-circuited the usual sequence of events? I also noticed that, when you entered the power armour, the animation was slightly glitched, causing your character model to pass _through_ the armour - so, maybe one or more of those Creation Club mods had some side effects.
I think you're right about the workshop. I'd add that just because you have a mission from Preston doesn't mean you have to immediately do that mission. They don't fail, so you can do it in an hour, or tomorrow, or next week, or whatever.
@@Ocrilat Thinking about it, Preston starting up his eternal "Help a settlement" spiel is probably gated by two conditions: *1)* The player escorted the settlers to Sanctuary. *2)* The player has tried out the settlement building system. The second condition is _intended_ to be fulfilled by the short tutorial tasks around Sanctuary - but apparently just activating _any_ settlement workbench, even for a few seconds, is enough to satisfy the condition. That would explain why Preston _immediately_ started talking about helping a settlement, the instant that the settlers crossed the bridge into Sanctuary, thereby fulfilling condition 1. 😆 It wouldn't be a Bethesda game without these kinds of things happening, would it?

I believe that both the settlement in need of help and the enemy encampment that threatens them are chosen semi-randomly, like the "radiant quests" in _Skyrim._ ("Jarl __ asks any able-bodied adventurer to retrieve __ from the __ that inhabit _.")_ This can lead to situations where, even very early on, you are asked to help a settlement in a high-level area of the map, where you're not expected to pass through until _many_ hours and a lot of levelling-up later. This randomness can also lead to silly situations where a settlement at the far north of the map may be "under threat" from a pack of feral ghouls at the far south that never venture away from their spot - and yet _somehow_ pose an existential threat to the settlement at the opposite side of the Commonwealth. I found it best to consider the Minutemen quests as "Things to get done when I pass through that area", rather than "Top priority things to do a.s.a.p."
@@SebastianWeinberg Lol it's hard for me to say. I haven't played Skyim or Fallout 4 unmodded in a long time. That being said, I don't think I ever had the annoyance over an over-eager Preston that a lot of people seem to have. I am (seemingly) 109 years old though, so that might be a factor.
There are a few Mods which restores the greenery of the pre-war period. One of them is called "FO4 Seasons - Summer" option. But right now you are seeing post-war Boston in all of its post-apocalyptic glory. However, if you recall the TV series there were plenty of scenes with lush green trees in them.
You should check out Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas. They're older but still fun to play. New Vegas would really be a good idea since that looks like where Season 2 of the show will take place.
I don't usually play as a female character, but in this game, her acting and the acting of the others are so much better than when you play as a male. You're a damn good shot with that pistol, one of the best I've seen in a Let's Play. "He's gonna be my best friend." ROFLMFAO!!!

CC content is sometimes free and worth it in my opinion. Save everything,and an exploit is to do the scrap/store glitch to get more than enough items. Also the triangle of death is a thing.
I have Fallout 3 and New Vegas on PS3 , but this is one of my all time favorite games so far. I have played through several times siding with different factions. I have Skyrim, but I never finished it. It was too convoluted to me to stay interested.
@ShesEmma as a prior player to f04, the show made me play the others, I've since played 3 and new vegas. They very much have better rpg elements and new vegas' story and factions and writing are the best. Not as much environmental storytelling though, as f04. And the scrapping gameplay loop is awesome in f04.
7:20 "How do they know about hostile mutants? It hasn't even happened yet." Let's see. You and I live in the real world where no nuclear apocalypse has ever happened. Here in this real world we have sci-fi books, sci-fi TV, sci-fi movies, sci-fi comics, and sci-fi video games where creative people tell stories about hostile mutants after nuclear apocalypses. Maybe there in this video game, that salesman has seen, read, watch, or played some of those? Nah. My guess is he's a psychic, a distant ancestor of Mama Murphy... :)
Pre-War people in the Fallout universe grouped just about anything outside of aliens and naturally occuring beings in the world as a 'mutant'. Plus it wouldn't have been that far-fetched for anyone not to speculate that there might be some mutation among the wildlife following a nuclear attack, and they had been imagining the worst after all the warring that had gone on the past decade leading up to the culmination of their Great War.
you should use VATS (vault assisted targeting system) to at least find enemies... you can just tap the vats button while looking around and it targets anything at a good distance, and shows them as enemies (red name) or friends (green name) plus gives you an idea if they are to high level to fight (In theory) even if you are going to fight without vats, use it to find enemies / friends.. and maybe most importantly MINES... you can shoot the mines, or get real close you can just click on them to disarm them and then pick them up. also, you really can, and should loot EVERYTHING... oil cans, glue and tape are especially useful.
A lot of people are commenting on what Fallout to play but just try to enjoy this game. There's time to play other games later. They just want you to play what their favourite is. You actually could use a security baton instead of fighting with fists. You did walk past 2 of them. I would say take your time and explore things because you will find more stuff.
Since you've added some "quality of life" mods, did you know that you could also get a Rad Roach companion mod too? Though I'm guessing that it isn't very talkative. BTW Roach meat or any "meat" is useful for cooking to remove rads, and to get XP, and to sell to vendors.
