Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel RickShielsPGAGolf. This RU-vid channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!
I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.
I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!
On this channel I also make fun and entertaining golf content based on crazy and sometimes “gimmicky” golf clubs. I like to cut through the marketing hype about products and I like to give you the honest truth about golf equipment.
If you enjoy the channel make sure you hit subscribe and also tap the notification bell so that you are always notified when I release a new video.

Those last three holes proved to me that professional golfers can properly strike and shape shots at will with nearly any equipment. They play at a level I simply cannot comprehend. Also, Mr. Shiels played amazingly well having never touched those sticks prior. Only took him a few holes to make adjustments. Great playing by both men and was very entertaining to watch.

I'd love to play the Old Lady reverse! Bottom line: this just shows how incredibly good players Vardon & Braid, Hagen & Jones and many others where. I sometimes wonder what they would've managed with modern clubs. PS: This vid 'explains' why some of the bunkers on the Old seem to be facing in odd directions when you play the course the 'regular' way.

Rick, the "Gutty" ball you unveiled on the 16th tee is not filled with feathers. The feathery balls were used before the "Gutty" came along. Gutty is for Gutta Percha, which is the rubbery sap of the Sapodilla tree.

Also he didn't mention that it's smaller than current balls - "The standard size golf ball today is 1.68 inches, but before the nineteen eighties, the minimum size was 1.62 inches."

and the "play club" (a long nose driver in this case) a little mound of sand was used instead of a tee (which hadn't been thought of then).

and Old Tom had a son with the same first name. He's the fellow who won the challenge belt outright in 1870 after winning it also in 1868 and 1869. You actually showed a picture of him at the start of your video; Young Tom Morris. Because Young Tom got to keep the challenge belt for winning it three times in a row, the next year they played for a claret jug of all things.

Great video Rick. Loved watching you guys play the old hickory woods/irons. It also goes to show that a great player can adapt relatively quick to whatever clubs or ball is placed in their hands.

Outstanding production! First time I’ve seen the entire Old Course played backwards. The touch of old hickory clubs & modern clubs alternate shot was amazing! Well done! KEEP that hickory putter in the bag!🔥⛳️

Love it! I am actually in the process of switching to hickory as my primary set. Right now, I am shooting the same with hickory as with modern and find the creativity needed with fewer clubs and different technology an amazing challenge and has increased my enjoyment of golf substantially! Great stuff

Hickory clubs at St. Andrews is an absolute dream round come true. I love playing the hundred year old clubs and can sometimes break par with them. I think about who hand crafted them, forged the irons, sanded the woods, turned the shafts, cut and wound the grips, and what they looked like coming out of the club makers shop. I wonder who bought them, what vehicles they rode in to and from the course, what closets they sat in for decades, and finally how they found their way to me. I trust that my restoration would make the original craftsmen proud of them once again, and that in my hands they will be played as intended. Perhaps, when I am gone, someone else will find them and do more than hang them in their den, that they too will play them and enjoy them…maybe at St Andrews. BTW, it was great to see MW Lee play in an up close and personal way. What a cool dude. I’d play with him any time.
