I don't know what happened with the copyright, but I used to have the man who invented the fanned fret guitars (Ralph Novak) work on my guitars back in the late 80's. I sure hope he owns the copyright. We lost an amazing guitar tech back then because he chose to devote all his time to building his fanned fret design guitars and basses, and I supported that move. I still have my old Charvel that for years after he refretted it was smooth as glass.

Saw a video a few years ago about a boutique guitar show somewhere showcasing really unusual stuff. The best thing I ever saw was the one guitar that had a mechanism inside that alternated the signal from the neck and bridge pickup back and forth, like turning a blend knob. It sounded like a fricken univibe built right into the guitar.

You’re definitely a big inspiration to me, you’re just a normal dude who followed your dreams and worked hard at it, and you’re not starving, which gives me hope, haha! @purungo
@purungo 3 года назад
@@DingleBerry88 Its a matter of how you look at the neck. If you slice it lenght wise, the section is always going to be straight, so it would be same as a normal guitar. But as you move the slice up and down, the angle of the straight line changes from going front to back to going back to front. Bending, though, probably wouldn't be the prettiest thing ever, which I think is why that's been done on a bass.

I really enjoyed this video because it shows the guitar as both an instrument and a piece of design. I always believed that those two aspects are inseparable. There is no music without a vision, there is no vision without inspiration, and if you are a guitarist, there is no inspiration if the instrument does not speak to you. Very inspiring. Thank you, Rhett! :)

I’d take the Relish and the Vila. Also loved the twisted bass! I’ve built a, comparably very mild “twist” in the necks of my acoustic builds, for years now. Customers have LOVED it! With a carefully engineered and cut nut and saddle, it works great. There’s no negative effect on tone, pliability is improved, and goes a long way in reducing wrist and hand stress for marathon playing sessions.

I picked the Strat and it is the guitar I have loved the most Sadly it was burglarized, but I had for a while and get to keep my memories. I have other guitars and while,they are ok, probably even better I have never have never been able to identify with them quite as well. So yup character over perfection Excellent video

Dude! This show just stopped at my local store yesterday. I got the chance to check all these out in person at Bananas At Large in San Rafael, California. I had no idea that the event was happening, but when I got there it really wanted to go up to the guy to tell him that I saw him on your channel, but there were a bunch of people waiting to talk to him. It would have been cool to let him know that your channel has boosted his visibility, but he was busy at the time. The Wide Sky was gorgeous. The Didonato was so impressive to see in person. There were way more guitars that you didn’t feature that would all be worthy of their own showcase video. It was also really cool that the event had the vibe where everyone was welcome to pick up and play the guitars. It appeared that they were all on sale, since they all had a price listed. The cool thing is that it feels like an art exhibit, but you’re not usually allowed to physically interact with the art - but this exhibition is all about the public interacting with the art. RU-vid tends to make things seem larger than life. But this show is literally a couple people in a Winnebago with a bunch of expensive guitars visiting local mom-and-pop music stores. My local store is definitely not a super-prominent guitar store, but they still were able to host this event. If you have a local guitar shop, check their calendar to see if this show is coming to you. We don’t get many chances to see instruments like this in real life.

I am learning guitar and that last one looks like a wonderful playground. My art is ceramics. And most instructors (I am still learning) are blown away by my ability to not form an attachment to a peice. Aka. I like something and want to play it safe. Where as I only see what I like about said pieces and what I can do better. This frees me to experiment and play. Basically let me try something I never done before. Let me expand. Unless I am pushing/improving my technic I rarely do the same thing. So I will throw 40 tea bowls. But each one is different trying to tweak the one thing or another. that's what this guitar would allow me to do. Improve my skill by wanting to try stuff out. Its clay.

@duffman18
@duffman18 4 года назад
That's the thing with quality guitars. You never wanna actually use them for gigs because they _will_ get damaged. It's the law of the gig. I've heard of people using Squiers for gigs instead of ever bringing fenders. A squier you don't really mind if it gets scratched. Or people using epiphones instead of Gibsons Unless you're big and successful enough to employ a guitar tech then you have to be careful what you bring to play with. And even then, disasters can happen. SRV's iconic strat was completely destroyed shortly before his death, because a stage fell on it. I think they screwed on another neck to it but it was never the same

The Wide Sky was awesome - sort of maintained an acoustic property with electric tone. The other stuff is a no go with the twisted necks. At least when a neck is straight, you know where it's supposed to be - but how on earth would you know what went wrong with the twisted neck and which way you adjust the truss to remedy it?

I know its not 'boutique' but PRS also put different caps into the Silver Sky to make everyone the same. There is small variations from the manufacture so each Silver sky has different capacitors to ensure they all have the same result. I must admit that I don't like every one of these and certainly wouldn't look to buy but its nice to see some builders looking outside the box. The first seemed more conventional but that ONI was 'interesting' - not sure I would want it but the craftsmanship is great...

3:34 Usually guitars are weird for their shape, this one's weird for its construction, wow.

As a point of reference, David Torn played a Teuffel for a while (maybe the same model; certainly some of the same features) and Billy Gibbons has been seen onstage with a different Teuffel model.

Wonderful to hear the guitars, but what amp/pedals did you use?

4:09 - Nope, those are off the shelf mylar film electrolytics with 10 or 20% variation. They are designed for hundreds of volts so they'll never get charged on a guitar pickup. He should try some proper tone caps or NOS classics.

UUUuuuh ! Some crazy guitars indeed. Funny the way you play around the neck pulling and pushing to get a very subtle tremolo, I say funny because I tend to dislike the guitars that have a neck that "gives", I really prefer necks that don't give at all, like graphite reinforced necks. Anyway, nice video !

Any of Ulrich Teuffel's guitars will be incredible. I owned a Niwa for a few years & loved it. It's modern art that you can play.

@RhettShull I'm moving from Chicago (goodbye CME...sniff, sniff) to the Alpharetta area (Sugar Hill) and of course need a new guitar store home. It seems like Righteous is the place. True? I thought you did a vid with a Plek or something at Righteous...and shhh, don't tell my wife I asked, I'm still trying to recover from the Tele I bought only a coupla months after the Gretsch...hehe

My dream guitar is this one 5:31 with lipstick pickups, a glass top, twelve strings, a resonator, and gittler guitar neck and frets.

The Teuffel guitars have been around at least a decade. I saw them at namm back maybe in '07(ish). Remarkable instruments and beautifully engineered.

The switches on the last guitar were pressure-locking. You'd need to push harder and they "click" into the "on position". Dual functioning when turned off, they'd function like the buckethead kill switch. Allowing for rhythmic pulsing of the desired effect. You can even hear the guy click one on and off in the video while he was talking about it.
