Edit: Seems like allot of people thinking I'm new. I'm not! I've been playing Monster Hunter for 5 years now, with multiple thousands of hours spent across at least one game from every single Generation of MH. Gunlance is my favorite, but it was my 3rd weapon I learned. I play a large variety of weapons including GL, SwitchAxe, Heavy Bowgun, ChargeBlade, Greatsword, Insect Glaive, and Lance. I just wanted to make a Gunlance video :)
I love this weapon so much, and I've been wanting to make a video about it for a long time. I think this is a fitting song for it!
The audio is very very VERY slightly desynced due to some complicated exporting/fps shenanigans that I simply can not understand and do not have the energy to fix, so I apologize if it bothers anyone else... trust me... I'm far more annoyed by it than you X_X

People seem to forget that it’s one of the weapons that blocks, and it doesn’t need an attack focused build to do good damage due to how its damage works. It’s top tier if you take like 3 minutes to learn it.

@@jennashinx6939 shelling level 8 is locked behind lvl 181, no? Which is at least 100 hours of grinding from lvl 1 depending on how shafted you get with levels, if I'm not misremembering.

@@wacky3486 141. If you've been grinding Investigations since they were released, you should have not been that far behind. However, it's absolutely not 300 hours, especially if you just join random invests. I've only got 600 hours in Sunbreak total, and 300 of them were in base rise. I've probably spent a few days worth at MOST in anomaly investigations and I'm at 160s rn

I love my Gunlance, I know I can't play meta like many others but I made my ultimate defense set but still shell the hell out of monsters usually breaking everything (thanks Part Breaker). My hands aren't the best so I play how I can enjoy the game

And that's perfectly fine! It's obvious that I prefer to play META and prioritizing skilled play, but that's not for everyone, play however you want! What was most important to me in making this video was to make sure that it felt fun, it made Gunlance look fun, and that it really conveyed the joy I feel playing the weapon, even though I am playing META. It's a common thing for Gunlancers to be actively against optimizing their sets or be outwardly hostile towards the idea of getting good at the weapon, and that frustrates me, if you just don't play that way, that's perfectly fine :) As long as we're having fun

Same here brother, GL has been my progression weapon since base World, 2000+ MH hours ago. If the monster is new to me, I slap on Guard5, GU3, Art3, Mag/LS2, Def6/7, DivBless + Fortify or any combo of those where possible and there is just NO way to fail the quest. Only quests that required any other weapons for me: Alatreon, Fatalis and ATVK back in MHW (Even Extremoth is doable). In Rise there are no monsters that will make you time out or wipe out even if your only DPS skills are Artillery and Load Shells. Sure, I'll switch to other weapons for higher DPS when needed, but GL is just the epitome of reliability.

If you feel you need to shorten the time of hunts by the 1 to 2 mins from meta stuff that truly matters to you then i suggest min/maxing life and actually getting real value out of it.

My experience with gunlance in a nutshell: played it in World for a solid 30 hours, tried it in Rise, found Rise GL to be a bit too slow for how fast Rise is overall. Now I consider every GL player a chad, while naruto running and piercing the heavens with my drill move

Lance and Gunlance are very simular but for suited for different people. Never let meta slaves decide how you decide to have fun in Monster Hunter lol. Looking forward to the 20th when Rise comes out on xbox so I can try out the silkbind attacks for the Lance. My brothers in Gunlance and Homies in Lance we shall keep poking the monster!!! ive gone through a lot of changes as a mh player since FreedumUnite, mained just about every weapon at somepoint, but my time with the gunlance was cut criminally short when I discovered the chargeblade in iceborne and got hooked. This reminded me of the glorious gunlancing days i had in 4u and generations, flying in like a goddamn predator missile and dumping an explosive payload right in the monsters chest, Thank you for reminding me Its still a fun and badass big ol' BOOM stick, i feel a second win coming on in Rise 😁

I used to main insect glaive, and then I saw that people kept saying that gunlance is a bad weapon, so I decided to try it out myself. Everything clicked once I tried it. Every other weapon felt weird to play afterwards.

Honestly the MAIN reason it's considered "bad" by many is due to it's complication in scaling it's damage. Capcom doesn't let Shelling scale with raw for whatever reason, and hasn't buffed Gunlance Motion Values in a while (instead opting for damage upkeeps?) so it often struggles to keep up at endgame. But that's only really noticeable if you're trying to speedrun or get really fast hunts! At more casual levels, Gunlance damage is relatively very easy to scale up, and even at GL's maximum output it's usually only like a minute behind most weapons anyways!! So it's really not so much worse! I think it gets exaggerated, but that's not to say the weapon doesn't have issues. It definitely has issues that need addressed, hopefully in the next game

It seems pretty evident Capcom doesn't like giving GL high shelling levels, but at the same time haven't really bothered adjusting its raw damage output because shelling spam skews its damage in weird directions.

Always fun to see people praising weapons I don't play much! It takes me a while to get used to new weapons, especially since I tend to play faster weapons like dual blades, so it's nice to see what it's like to play them without the hassle of learning a whole new playstyle. I play GL Meta tho :) See how I'm playing primarily Normal Fullburst lol I also run next to no EE or Guard and run Attack Boost and Crit Skills, yet very clearly my video was incredibly fun! Meta doesn't have to mean not fun and I want that to be very clear. Just playing Meta doesn't mean you slave to it! Play however you want of course! As long as you're having fun, but I find there to be plenty of fun in mastering Gunlance and really taking the weapon to it's upper limits as a Blademaster. Running melee skills doesn't mean you forget Shells! You use both :)

Monster Hunter World was my first ever game and I tried loads of weapons, but the moment I tried the Gunlance I immediately fell in love, much like you! I asked for people's opinions, I got much the same responses. I didn't care for their responses, I knew what I loved about it. Played through all of Monster Hunter World, all of Iceborne, every single monster, regardless of what it was. 100% game time, 100% use of Gunlance. And watching you start your Gunlance journey brought my heart joy.

I recommend you try them all as they each play different and may come to love others too. It's not that your marrying a weapon, your just building a harem :)

I've been here for 5 years. Got like 3k hours of MH racked up in total, played a game from every Generation. Sunbreak alone I have over 1k GL hunts LMFAO Gunlance wasn't even my first. That was SwitchAxe. My 2nd was ChargeBlade. I also play plenty of Lance and HBG. I have every wep learned. Just wanted to make a video about GL

Gunlance is deadass my favourite weapon in MH. it's insanely fun and allows for so much variety on builds. Can't be beat in my opinion for fun factor. Had an insane support build for it in IB that everyone I played with was shocked by how effective it was.

Back when Sunbreak came out, made an immortal gunlance build that was so much fun. Get knocked to almost nothing? Break some parts and heal to full almost instantly. Bullet Barrage and blast dash are also some of the most fun moves.

I recently picked Gunlance back up. It's more challenging than Lance, but holy shit if it doesn't just deal so much more damage, it's great! I also like the synergies between different wirebug attacks and combos. I appreciate a weapon that lets me consider different options moment to moment in combat.

Those comments at the beginning we're just people trying to keep the secrets of the Gunlance for themselves. Also this video was great,it deserves the attention it's been getting.

i just started trying out gunlance bcuz of this video, and i have to say its a lot of fun!! at first i was getting bored cuz i was basically just poking a giant monster with a big toothpick, but when i got tthe combos down and got stronger weapons, its was the same...BUT MICHAEL BAY SAID LET THERE BE EXPLOSIONS! and i think thats the real takeaway here. haha gunlance go boom ^^

I picked up Rise again the other week after a long time of playing World, and thought I'd pick a new weapon. I hadn't tried either of the lances before and figured with the increased mobility in Rise the Gunlance would be fun to try, and OH BABY AM I GLAD I PICKED IT cause goddamn does nothing make me feel like a badass like being able to seamlessly swap from patient defensive poking to massive explosion predictions for huge burst damage.

Gunlance is my fave and one of the reasons I was able to get into Monster Hunter at all it is specifically for, people who hate plinking off armor, people who want to swing the great sword faster even at the cost of damage, people who think the lance is really boring on the face of it, people who love reloading in the middle of a battle (There's nothing like the feeling of slamming a long silver bullet into a well greased chamber), people who like explosions, people who need help dealing with weird hit boxes or erratic monster patterns, and now with Rise people who want to fly.
