Siren should have been on this thing, it is like a total hidden gem as well as Kuon and King's Field old FROM software games, except Siren which is Team Silent
Glad to finally talk about some of my favorite ps2 games with all of you. Back in the day when I played these, nobody was talking about them or had any interest in these games. Hopefully the games in this video can gain your interest.
I appreciate the way in which Reggie judges games. It seems like he is more focused on the overall experience and not just a single detail. It's pretty clear that he is willing to forgive less-than-perfect gameplay, adapt to the shortcoming(s) and enjoy the game for what it is. I have a similar attitude so his recommendations are typically on point for me. Awesome stuff MJ and Reggie!
8:56 My heart jumped when Regie said "free roam flying game" because I knew he was talking about Sky Gunner, one of my favorite games of all times. Probably my number one, actually. I've never met anyone who actually appreciated it.
I've just started collecting for the PS2, since it's my favourite console ever. I've already got over 100 games and I'm so happy! I love these types of videos and they'll help me find some more games to collect. thank you MetalJesus :)
I love these hidden gems videos. One of my favorite parts of collecting video games is finding those odd ball games that didn't get enough cred at time of release. Especially the games that didn't quite fit in with the popular genres of their time, but now have grown into retro gems. Keep em coming!
Such videos make me sad that I totally missed out on PS2 when it was around. But they also cheer me up, because I know that one day I will start a quest of getting whole PS1/PS2 collection for myself :) It''s one of my ultimate goals.
Well, that's the thing... I had no money for any console after PS1. I only had gaming PC that turned obsolete very quick and for very long time I didn't play any games. Until I started working and was able to afford myself new PC and PSP. And it all went uphill from there.
jakescukobyte I think you're way too late for legit stuff. I gave a friend time crises 2 with the gcon2 12 years ago and forgot he had it now I can't find where to get another gun
Tokobot Plus, Airblade, Raw Danger, and Firefighter F.D. 18 are all amazing. Most of my collection was stolen by a vindictive ex, but when I got a PS2 again, Firefighter F.D. 18 was the first game I got for it. Picked it up at a local game shop for either $5 or $10.
Acuravigor47 agree that's why I'm going for the full sixth generation consoles catalogs of games. All PS2, GameCube, and original XBOX. I want all games for this generation, and I'm collecting all full catalogs.
Airblade is the shit. I got a demo disc with my ps2 and played the same level for a year. So happy when i found it cheap. Still working on it but im hyped.
Snootches Bootches i dont think so, thps was neversoft/activision, airblade was criterion. It 2 different companies but it definitely reminds you of pro skater
I'd definitely recommend two weird quirky hidden gems on PS2, Spy Fiction and Cy Girls. And I know it's not really hidden, but damn you all NEED to play God Hand!!
MetalJesusRocks: I played the first Urban Chaos that came out for the PlayStation 1. I also played The X-Files for the PlayStation 1, and the PlayStation 2. I wish I had all those games still. See, many years ago I was evicted from my mobile home and I lost over 95% of everything in my life, so this is why I don't have them. I had tons of PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 games. I had to put them in a chest because I didn't have any place to put them, because I had so many. There wasn't any more space inside that chest to place any more games. It was packed full.
I remember renting Urban Chaos at Blockbusters beating the game twice in one week before returning it and also since replaying it on harder difficulties can unlock more upgrades for your weapons and items such an awesome game. I need to find a copy of that game and I would love to see Rocksteady develop a non-Batman game and perhaps work on either a Superman game or make a original game.
that game is literally the reason why I blindly bought Batman Akrkham Asylum at launch. I desperately waited for Rocksteady's second game, and when it finally got announced I KNEW it had to be good, and would you know it, it was one of the best games of the entire generation and Rocksteady finally got the attention they deserved
Oh boy do I have a list for you? -Mana Khemia 1 and 2 (make your items turn based RPGs) -The Red Star (Beat em up, shooter at one point?) -Twisted Metal Head On (people don't mention this one as much I think) -Tenchu Fatal Shadows (stealth killing ninja goodness) -Onimusha 1, 2, 3 and 4 (action game kinda like dark souls) -Eternal Poison (RPG final PS2 lifetime days) -Culdcept (RPG with cards) -Gladius (Strategy RPG, you need patience with the spell animations) -GrimGrimoire (Real Time Strategy) -Tales of Legendia -Phantom Brave (From the creators of Disgaea) -Maximo vs Army of Zin (Sequel to ghost and goblins, action platformer) -The Lord of the Rings the Third Age (Turn based RPG in the Tolkien world) -Saint Seya The Hades and The Sanctuary (Fighting games based on the anime) -Smuggler's Run 2 (Off Road Racing) -Tales of The Abyss -Brothers in Arms Road to Hill 30 (Squad Based Tactics FPS) -Colosseum Road to Freedom (Action, beat em up, RPG, rip off of the Gladiator Movie?)
Really think that Black was a very underrated game. Hardly anyone knows about it and it still feels really good to play. And 13 or XIII is really cool too. Comic artwork style and not at all easy it was overlooked by lots
Videos with Reggie always gets the like. Neo geo battle coliseum is great. Also the snk classics collection is slept on by alot it's a cheap way to get a TON of snk/neo geo goodness!!
I've never owned a PS2 in it's time, but recently was given a fat model PS2 by my older sister cleaning out her storage shed that was my nephews who cared less, so thanks for the video as this will give me some games to keep my eyes out for as I start to build a decent PS2 collection.
Great list. I say play these: X-treme Express - a game about racing trains and battles alike BCV: Battle Construction Vehicles - gotta check this one out Evergrace The Red Star Mojo! Capcom's Everblue (amazing gem) Eternal Ring - psn for the ps4 so definitely a go and many more
Ooh! I love Urban Chaos, that thing was my first FPS in PS2, I binge played it when I was middle school like ages for completing the mission medals lol And the X-Files was pretty creepy when I played it, got like Resident Evil vibes mixed with cult, alien things and psychological horrors when the protagonists trapped in hallucinations
It's sad that hardly anyone mentions coldwinter. It's one of the best fps games of that generation. Amazing story, and gameplay, there are some cool mechanics in it, like flipping and moving tables for cover.
Champions of Norrath of course! Champions: Return to Arms, Drakan: The Ancients' Gates, Genji: Dawn of the Samurai, Hunter: The Reckoning: Wayward, The Mark of Kri, Bujingai, Onimusha series, Nano Breaker, Neopets: The Darkest Faerie, Nightshade, Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria.
I clicked on this because of Urban Chaos! The online was great, it was my first FPS online experience! This is also my time time seeing a video with Reggie, seems like a cool dude!
I remember ads in a Game Informer before Urban Chaos came out. I figured it was going to be a generic cop game but I rented it when it came out and god damn, I was in love. One of the few games I beat on the PS2. Really cool to see it on a hidden gems list.
Reggie, I like your voice and face. My only wish is that you would get a better microphone (first and foremost) and camera / lighting (second priority). I would love watching your videos with just better voice quality and showing gameplay, don't even need to do filming, hence why it's lower priority. I think you have a lot of fans who would like to see your videos - just giving some constructive feedback.
I love these videos that Jason & Reggie make, there are many hidden gem videos out there however the selections these two choose are always spectacular. Keep em coming!
ASMR Gaming News not shadow of the colossus because it’s too famous now. But no one remembers any klonoa game besides the original on ps1 or the gba ones.
I think gamers know about Klonoa 1 and 2. One of them got ported to the Wii, and there might have been some other ports as well over the years. He’s definitely a game character that goes undiscussed most of the time.
I dunno if I'd consider the onimusha series a hidden gem. It was a fairly decently big game franchise during the PS2 era. I mean it wasn't MASSIVE or anything but it had a celebrity associated with one of them at one point and they were fairly big budgeted titles and they made at least 4 of them so they must have sold well. I mean the under 18 crowd might not know about them but ask anyone who remembers the PS2 era and you'll probably get a "oooooh ya, I remember those games".
I just picked up a ps2 yesterday I am so stoked to collect for it the games are cheap still in 2021! a fellow coworker hooked me up with a dualshock 2 clear blue controller I love it! also picked up ace combat 4 and 5 cib mint 22 bucks total
Both Disaster Report and Raw Danger kind of are like Firefighter F.D.18 in a sense that it is based kind of on the real world and that games like them could potentially teach people about survival skills. Other games that are good with that are Survival Kids 1 and 2 for the Game Boy Color and The Ignition Factor for the SNES.
There used to be a game on the Dreamcast.dope as heck. You played the rolls of a team of secret agents and took turns between them to complete levels, usually with a time clock counting down .Damn ,I can't remember the name though.I got pretty addicted to it.
Update on the blood will tell game....its extremely rare and goes for upwards of around $800. Gunna have to try to cop it from my buddy that let me play it years ago for like 20 lol
I also would like to mention an EXTREMELY UNDERRATED game called Growlanser 2, I never knew anyone who played it near me, but I absolutely love that game!
My favorite hidden gem on the PS2 is Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Long title with massive replayability. The multiplayer is sick with up to 4 players like Golden Eye. Pass this along to Reggie I know he would appreciate this story driven 3rd person shooter.
Urban Chaos screams for sequel or at the very least a remake. Also, can you imagine how epic a Raw Danger or Disaster Report would be like on today's consoles?
Obscure 1 and 2 are hidden gems from the survival horror genre. It has coop play, which makes it even better. Obscure is worth over $200 on Ebay in 2021.
You can not understand how happy you’ve made me. For years I’ve been trying to find out a demo I played. I forgot what game it was on. I also forgot what game it was the demo for. All I remember was the level. I searched and searched and searched. But finally...I found it. Now I’m going to go buy Urban Chaos.
I'll throw in a hidden gem, but it's a JPN import: *Remote Control Dandy SF* (worth owning just for the title) by Sandlot. Giant stompy robot fighting. Sandlot made several of these games, more people may know the previous game Robot Alchemic Drive, which I think was released in the west. But the major difference with SF is that you control your human character (in first person with Halo-style dual-anologue, which was very uncommon from Japanese devs at the time) AND your massive hulking robot at the same time. (R.A.D. had you control your human, then your robot alternately) They managed to fit first person movement and jumping, and controls for your robot's feet, hands, torso and even some ranged weapons, all onto the dualshock without needing any mode switching. You could turn the torso into your punch to throw hooks, uppercuts or overhead smashes, or even step into a big straight power punch, and of course demolish the city by accident (or on purpose, and blame it on the bad guy). It was bloody brilliant!
I've just stopped ebay hunting to check some Raw Danger gameplay and this popped up :D You're producing a great and helpfull content. I'm adding another 2 gems to my wish list now, thank you guys ;) Peace
Who else would like to see MetalJesus and Reggie start a series where they play games together? I realize that they probably don't live very close together but even if it was like a once a month or an every other month thing.
A great video all games that are real hidde gems, not just expensive games.. hence hidden nowadays.. Urban chaos is amazing.. surprised me when I tried it out ramdomly ;)
Had to finally sub as the content is too well done not to reward it with a sub. I look forward to seeing your gems for the PS3 and PS4 will have to go back in your back catalog and enjoy a few of the many videos already done :).
So many good PS2 games once the system got rolling, including the last generation of truly great imports and shmups. Thunder Force VI, Homura, Dai Senryaku, Arcana Heart, Gradius V, Gungrave, La Pucelle, Choro Q, Maken Shao, R-Type Final, the SMT games, Stella Deus, ThunderStrike, Valkyrie Profile 2, and all of the collections including the Taito collections.
