Thanks a lot man. I want to try this soon. I have a Dr. HDMI so I should be able to spoof a 3D TV, so I won't need homebrew or a 3D TV. I imagine I'll still need to swap back and forth with my PS4 though.

You did not explain how the PSVR gets the signal from the PS3.. what's hooked up to what? Breakout box usb is hooked up to the PS4, that makes sense.. but which HDMI is hooked up where?
The HDMI INPUT on the PSVR Processor Unit is connected to either the PS4 console OUTPUT or the PS3 console OUTPUT. If you are using an HDMI Switch/Splitter, then BOTH the PS4 HDMI OUTPUT and the PS3 HDMI OUTPUT go into the HDMI Switch and the OUTPUT of the HDMI Switch goes into the HDMI INPUT on the PSVR Processor Unit. I simply thought about: what would the PSVR headset do, if you connected up a PS3 that is outputting a 3D compatible signal? When that in itself only yielded a 2D image in the PSVR headset, I put together two ideas: forcing the 3D output on the PS3 (instead of relying on the "auto detect" PLUS forcing the PS4 into "3D cinema mode" via playback of a 3D Blu ray. It was simple trial and error without any knowledge of how the hardware/software/firmware on both consoles actually work :)
I just tried it and it works BUT...the 3d output seems to run at a horrible framerate, like 30 or maybe even 24 fps. It might have something to do with the hack (3d blu ray is "cinema mode 3d" so only 24 fps?) Or maybe the 3d games on ps3 just ran at 30fps and I never noticed before. Either way its quite nausea inducing in the headset. Its so frustrating because it almost works brilliantly, as in playing on a massive cinema screen in 3d with zero crosstalk.
I tried this as well and also compared to a 3DTV. Unfortunately the PS3 was never really strong enough to handle Stereoscopic 3D output. Games like Uncharted 3 that struggle to hold 30fps WITHOUT 3D enabled go down to about 15-20 fps. The game that runs probably the best is Ridge Racer 7 with 3D License DLC. The 2D version ran at 60fps and even 1080p, so the 3D version actually manages to hit 30fps most of the time!
@@jcondkc strangely, Ridge Racer 7 3d on an actual 3dtv feels like 60fps to me, whether it actually is or not I don't know. But the same test on the psvr, yes its in 3d but the framerate is awful, like I say, akin to a movie framerate maybe, no good for a game at all.
Now can we figure out how to play PS4 3D games on PSVR? I believe TWO PS4's and using this technique can work! Is there anyone that can test this? Trine series would be a good game to try.
I've found a simpler way to get 3d blu ray to vr. You need 2 devices. A dongle hdmi to usb capture card - which you setup in your software [vlc] to decode as 1080p, that's 1920 x 1080 at 24fps - this fools the 3d player into thinking you have a 3d tv connected. You also need a budget hdmi splitter to remove the HDCP protection signal. The rest should be easy enough to work out. This also works with a regular 3d blu ray player. Results: 3d blu ray movie to quest 2, in real time without ripping. For those of you not into facebook Meta - im told the ps4 Vr also plays 3d movies directly through that vr hardware without a 3d tv. That's 3d disc >> 3d player [ps3] >> hdmi splitter >> hdmi to usb capture dongle >> to pc software vlc set to convert at 1080p 24fps [full screen ]>> to VR software Virtual desktop, [or Big Screen if you have win 10 to run that] >> VR 3d. You can also hack the properties settings in a copy of the Vlc icon so it loads with the 1080p defaults already set for your hdmi / usb dongle. This way its just click and go. see below. Just replace the "USB Video" with your own dongle name, and the same for the (usb Digital Audio)" so it points to the audio for that capture device. @@DarylWiseJr I thought i'd covered all the bases but sure. Connect the hdmi from your player to the splitter. The splitter needs to be the kind which strips the HDCP protection signal. Then its hdmi from splitter to you capture card, which you'll have plugged into your computer. Now the software needs to set the capture rate, so that the 3d player believes its connected to a 3d tv. On VLC you need to be in capture mode, so look for tab 'Media' select Open capture device. Select your capture card and your audio device where it say 'default'. If you press play you should see something, but VLC defaults to 480p - very low quality. For this to work we need 1080p, or 1920x180, the frame rate should be 24fps, but 30fps will work too. On that same screen look for the tiny box which says 'more options'. You should see a couple of extra input lines. Add the following . :dshow-aspect-ratio="16:9" :dshow-size=1920x1080 : :live-caching=300 :dshow-fps=24 , also make a note of the values it has for :dshow-vdev [video device] and :dshow-adev. [audio device] You'll need these later. Now press play. If your player is on, you should see its screen on this page, if you have a 3d disc you will see 3d in the top / bottom format. Now you don't want to do this every time, so i suggest you create a copy of the VLC icon and place that on your desktop. Then Right click the icon and select properties. Look for where it says target. By default it will show your path to the VLC program, you want to append to that the info posted above, eg everything after the vlc.exe. Here it is again: dshow:// :dshow-vdev="USB Video" :dshow-adev="Digital Audio Interface (USB Digital Audio)" :dshow-aspect-ratio="16:9" :dshow-size=1920x1080 : :live-caching=300 :dshow-fps=24 Make sure the name of YOUR capture card and the name YOUR audio is used instead of what i have. Make sure you put those in the quotes. Apply , OK. Now each time you want to play a 3d disc. Double click icon. Full screen and then launch your virtual desktop in Occulus Quest 2 to combine the top and bottom views and watch in 3d.

@@DarylWiseJr Yeah, that last stage is important after you have the top/bottom showing on VLC in full screen. The virtual desktop, will show that screen in your headset, then you combine the views in the headset by selecting 'top bottom to 3d', or the equavalent for the VR soft you have running. GoodLuck.
