Dad portal is what its known as. Perfect for dads while the kids and mrs watch shite on the tv. Not everyone wants a handheld pc or wants to rebuy games they own. They just wanted a portable screen for their ps5. Win for many, Fail for many but you can never please everyone

I'm guilty of wishing it was more than what it is. But that's because I've never felt the need to remote play. Can't lie, I'm still interested in getting one to see if that changes.. Been reading a lot about the Portal today and just happened to see you made this video. Appreciate it as always, Floss! Best in the Business!

I love mine, just make sure the portal is on the 5GHz connection and not 2.4 or you’re going to have a bad time. Most people’s gripes is a result of poor network setups and not the device itself. Also, love how balanced Flossy’s comment section is compared to other “reviewers”.

Love the hardware of this device, got one on release day and really loved using this initially, the latency and slight stuttering whilst using the portal is so odd cause i never had lag whilst using remote play on my laptop or phone. Returned it as for me it isn't the best experience when playing games like fortnite or fifa online as remote play runs better on other devices. I hope Sony improves the concept of this device in the future cause it has great potential

This is actually pretty handy for me. As a parent I’m able to play my games while the kids hog the tv. Plus I took it to a relative’s house on the other side of town and it worked perfectly because of their good Wi-Fi.

Finally a non knucklehead review. Floss telling it like it is. Floss knows how the Internet is in his house and doesn't blame the device for wifi issues or Internet issues. If your Internet is good it just works. This isn't some big brain **** as other reviewers put out there. Thank you floss. I'm loving the portal too :)

I didnt really think u were going to review this .. glad u did.. I had mine since launch.. I had no issues I went to a family member house Thanksgiving work perfect.. I get people upset ita not a psp 2 or vita .. but it just works 💪🏾.. downside 😢 no browser can't hook up the Starbucks

If Sony recognizes the potential this thing has, they’ll have a real gem on their hands.

Couple things it should have: - Ability to use as backup controller on the console. - Sim card slot for true portable gaming for those of us with 100gb+ to unlimited 5G data plans - Ability to link multiple portables to the same console for multi-player gaming.

I used mine 50 miles away from home during Thanksgiving at my parents house connected to their wifi . Had some lag but for most part seamless experience

I work at Verizon and i can tell you that if this had a cellular version id be selling this like hot cakes so easily

I just got the portal recently was the only one within a 250 mile radius. Loving it so far. Having no lag issues or latency issues after getting a WiFi adapter that plugged into ps5 and a WiFi Extender plug in the wall. Everything runs flawlessly. Love gaming in bed at night main reason I got it. Hope you’re still loving your Flossy.

Great review Carter as always! I know this is out of the review but I think the PSP was ahead of it's time back when it came out. Cool they brought another portable playstation that was much needed.

I dig it too, me and my wife watch the same TV so I always feel bad gaming at night and taking up the TV. This would solve that with a bigger screen than my phone.

Just got this today and its a blast! Once you optimize your settings on your PS5 it runs surprisingly well

I love mines....the peanut gallery on the Internet just stay hating because its trendy.....smh

My only gripe is that you cannot run any streaming services on the unit. This product is supposed to be a mirror of PS5 console, so how in the world is the streaming option omitted? C'mon Sony....

RU-vid premium just got more expensive ?? I paid 7euro a month for no ads and now google wants more money the new subscription cost 12euro (download &RU-vid music) I never download video"s and don't want music...google is getting greedy

@$150 this is a no brainer but at @$200 🤔. Will be interested to see how it evolves, theres been a few rumors that PS is working on cloud gaming so using this, along with that, would be a good way to push PS Plus.

For anyone getting lag just go to dhcp settings on router. Then reserve the ip address for the portal and the ps5. Fixed all my issues

I’ve had mine for almost 2 weeks and I love it! The Internet plays a major part no matter where you are. If the Internet is great, it’s the best experience ever! I’ve had no problems though. 😎

Everyone wants to complain about this device about how it can’t do this it can’t do that blah blah blah. ITS TWO HUNNIT DOLLAZ!!!! If you want more Sony will make that but you gonna pony up more dough! 💰

I may be late with this tip, but better late than never right. That choppiness you showed went away completely for me with a small network settings change. On your network name on PS5, press options and select advanced settings. Change your mtu to manual, and lower it slightly from the 1500 default to 1473. Barely ever skips a beat for me after that... 😉👍

My only gripe against it is that if I take it out somewhere and have to sign in on the internet, it doesn't let you do that. It would've been nice to have at work with either job, but that one detail is the only thing that kept me from wasting my money getting this.

Just an FYI, the Portal won't work with most public Wifis because it doesn't have a web browser to login to their network. You have to use your phone as a hotspot

My one question with this product (since I've already bought at least 5 dualsense controllers this past year)...what do you do when the inevitable stick drift happens?

I'd rather own a Steam Deck OLED that already can stream PS5 and also play any PC game/emulate n64,gamecube, wii, switch, ps3, xbox, 360, psp, ps4 and NES, SNES, without any hacks.

When floss says he's going to keep this video nice and quick and is still long guess what it doesn't bother me.. its like watching your brother or cousins show you some new shit,and that's cool to me

Floss. Try connecting it to your hotspot. It works really well if you have a great cell connection. I did at the dealership waiting for my car to get serviced.

Nice review. I got mine yesterday and have been having fun with Spelunky and NFS Hot Pursuit. Never thought I would be able to play those ones remotely.

Been playing simce launch. Beat the last 4 to 5 hours of spidrman 2. Playing cyberpunk right now play about 10 hr is on it. I have barley evwn ised mu tv set since i got it. I have gooten more play time since having it. For mw it was worth the money. A switch can compete cause i dont care about Nintendo games. A steam deck would be a wast of money for my use case.

I’ll admit this thing is cool but I think really it would be better under a few things, one I feel if this is a system that uses the internet to play I think they should’ve made a way where you didn’t need a ps5 to use this. That’s my only gripe I do have a ps5 but I rather play it on my tv not this

Men I don’t know how to use this thing every I turn this thing on it turns the ps5 on. It only plays with ps5 on. Doesn’t work with rest mode I try enabling setting keeps doing the same thing.

I want to give playstation creaters time to patch up the glitches for now. It's definitely all about good wifi n how close u are to your router

you don't need this if you have a tablet or smartphone and a ps5 controller

I love mine. Got it at launch and play it everyday.

I got mine it's dope, even after criticizing it at first glance. One thing people always look over is the playstation link, which is a new wireless protocol that minimized lag and latency. Like yeah you can remote play from your phone but i always had latency when playing faster paced games. For example, i can actually play call of duty on the portal with damn near no noticable latency whereas remote play on a phone i couldnt because the lag was too much even on a fast internet connection. And as a family man, this allows me to sit with my wife and kid instead of being isolated at my desk like a nerd lol Its not a product for everyone but for those who find use of it, money well spent!

New Sub, like the energy and the content. Just brought one of these and you got me wishing it gets delivered faster lol. i remote play from steam deck but after a while it feels kind of heavy so i like that this is light weight.

I wonder if Sony is doing this as a trial run for a Playstation Portable 2? because these would make great 2nd player controllers to a PSP2

I’m a nighttime guard at a boring golf course so my main job is literally staying awake. My gf got me this and bro… I literally don’t even mind working anymore. I platinumed every Spider-Man game and now I’m doing fallen order then survivor. This little handheld has been getting crapped on by reviews and I can’t see why. I’m 40 mins from home playing single player and online games like I’m home. GTA 5 online runs pretty good, the crew plays GREAT, I’m not a cod guy but I could definitely play zombies or something. Idk about playing MP or any other fast paced PvP. It’s not that it’s unplayable but it’s slightly noticeable. Not enough to make you rage but I’d only play if all the rest of the guys were on already. But in my opinion it’s a 10/10 I don’t even get lag. Less than 10 times since I got it and it never even ruined the game when it happened.

This thing is completely useless without the ps5. For $200, it's not good value especially when the Backbone exists.

I’m gonna get one. I have kids they always wanna use the Tv. So having this is a god send while my youngest watches whatever. Great review and straight to the point.

The PlayStation Portal is simply a device to connect to a play your PS5 games on without the need to download new games or worry about how much memory you have etc. If you purchase it for what it’s intended for you won’t be disappointed if you purchase it thinking it a new portable gaming device that you can take anywhere, you’ll be disappointed. I’m getting one to use it around the house for a few minutes in bed before I go to sleep. I don’t expect it to be a Nintendo switch or a steam deck. It’s just a simple way to play my PS5 games on a handheld in my house. When I don’t want to be sitting in the room my PlayStation 5 is set up in.

There’s a lot of ways this could have been better. Cloud gaming, Bluetooth etc… With all that being said this joint is fire🔥🔥🔥. If I use Floss rating system I’d have to give this a Double Major Go!!!

Honestly the price isnt bad for what it is. However this isnt anything more than streaming to your phone or laptop. And some phones and laptops will actually get a better connection sitting in the same spot. If you share your gaming tv with a family who uses that tv for shows and movies, this could be great for you. I went with the ROG Ally because i got for when im traveling or at mt girlfriends house and having rhe ability to play anywhere without remote play delay and it does xbox, PS, and PC GAMES. I got excited that this thing would be more versatile like the other handhelds, but it looks sweet! Flossy was right at the end, I would rather rock a legit controller with a tablet or something. Better screen, better controller, win win

I genially don't know why Sony didn't just make a proper stand alone hand held gaming machine, especially considering how popular they are at the moment, and then that would attract people who don't own a PlayStation, and who game on PC or Xbox, and as you and others have pointed out, you need good WIFI and a PlayStation. It is a missed opportunity and is not as if they don't know how to make a hand held, that people can take on their travels. This is a limited audience

Too expensive for what it is. Not having Bluetooth so you have to buy expensive Sony headphones is ridiculous. The inability to do cloud gaming is also ridiculous.

Great review Floss. This has been on my radar and I am going to get it. My PS5 is connected to the TV in the family room. Usually its occupied by the family watching movies etc. So my gaming is mostly on the PC in the room in the back. But with this I can play the PS5 games next to my router in the back while the family is watching the movies. Excellent review.

I think it would be cool if you could use it as a regular controller like it was a wii U

I think if they made it just like the psp this would be worth the 200. The psp was highly slept on for having portable titles on a mini disk while having access to play the ps3 remotely. It was agead of its time.

Let’s be real. Back on PS4 we had the vita. Sony decided that they wanted to stop making them but now they want to comeback with a downgraded device. It really doesn’t make sense at all.
