It's absolutely insane that they could have had Silver Sable, Black Cat, or Yuri be playable in the game but instead they went with MJ. You have three notable female characters who are competent fighters that people would be excited to play as yet they chose the one who is just a civilian and needed to have reality bend around her to make her OP by their own admission.
Hell, both Yuri and Black Cat are in the game. There was no excuse not to use them, especially if they wanted female characters to play as opposed to MJ.
They aren’t important in the grand scheme of things in the story. Sable is dealing with shit symkaria. Black cat is dealing with her own shit. Yuri is a side character u get to team up with in the flame missions. She’s a anti hero and it isn’t a wraith game would you wanna okay as someone who isn’t even a main protagonist. Never was. Y’all complain about the dumbest things. Mj is actually a character that makes sense to play as. And it’s only 3 missions and they’re actually fun this time around.
They know full well they could've used those characters but they purposely didn't cause the fans complained the last time so they did out of spite. I can't stand them tbh. It baffles me that at no point it seemed like Insomniac went, "We can make Black Cat playable so the player can have a little more fun with her abilities and stealth sections would make sense for this character." Chase parts are more like a illusion and you can stop to drink a cup of tea. Some quick time events are a illusion too. You can do nothing and there is no fail state. Nothing happens. Her sections in the first game were dog shit too. So many unnecessary mechanics, assets and etc used just so they could feed you multiple hours of this god awful content that is just illusion of playing a game. It could have been used to polish the game or add meaningful content. You can remove all the gameplay with MJ and you will not lose anything. Probably even make game more enjoyable.

I’m not a huge Spider-Man fan or anything but doesn’t making MJ an overly capable character sort of detract from the character of Spider-Man? Isn’t one of the caveats of being a hero with a secret identity that if the villain finds out about Peter/Miles’ loved ones then being Spider-Man puts them in jeopardy? It's sad to see that one of my favourite game developers Insomniac, the gaming studio that made such great games such as Spyro The Dragon and my personal favourite PS2 franchise Ratchet and Clank to fall so low in the future.
I'd be very interested to see how many people who worked on the Spyro games are still working in Insomniac & have worked on SM2, same thing with Naughty Dog, the people who worked on the Crash trilogy are not the same at all as the ones who worked on TLOU pt 1 & 2; brand name remains but devs change, follow the people not the brand name.

Well first off, you seem to care a lot so seems a little hypocritical for you to ask that. Secondly, this is why. They will divert other time and resources from the game to pander to this crap. Maybe it's just me, but as a black kid with a hispanic parent, I don't feel properly represented by Miles Morales at all. If that was ever the goal of Miles Morales, they dropped the ball pretty hard with me. Idk how a mild mannered scientist in his mid-30s has more personality and charisma than an afro-latino teen from Brooklyn but this game proved it was possible.

Peter will probably stay, but too many games to one character is not good, as they need to end somewhere and take a back seat, or future writers or stories may ruin what the original was by creating it in their own new image or vision.

If some girl with no training, no powers, and no experience can get you through the toughest mission, then what is the point of having the super heroes? Miles gets his own game, but actual spiderman has to share his game with at least four other characters for more than half the game. I get giving you the option to play as the others in certain parts, but you have no option to play as the titular character for half the freaking game

I recently went back to batman Arkham city and it is crazy how much better it is than spider man. The mood that the world and the music creates is awesome.The game lets you get immersed without constant political messaging. You feel powerful in a super hero game. What a revolutionary concept.

We live in the time where people are comparing games that had multiple updates of improvement. I remember when GTA v came out... For the Xbox 360 in a PS3 it was a buggy mess that ran well. People were so happy that they got a GTA v that they ignored the issues.. kind of like Bethesda with Skyrim... When it released back on to the PS4 they start giving it updates to improve it. What I'm saying is if you're going to make a comparison compare the game when it first came out versus the updates.. because we all know if Spider-Man have multiple updates in the future it's going to be a completely different game... So make a comparison on a fair ground.. otherwise it comes off bias. That's like comparing a bodybuilder who's been doing it for years versus someone that's only been doing it for a month
Its quite funny, from the way people are saying that the story is worse, gameplay elements and other decisions being questionable and such. And don't forget about the supposed "gliding" mechanic that instead of just gliding, you're actually flying instead.

It’s funny how like you said, you’re basically flying when you’re gliding until at some point out of nowhere, the game remembers that you’re gliding and not flying and so, you just begin to dramatically lose altitude and speed out of nowhere. It’s weird
It kind of scares me of what they will do with the 3rd game. Obviously the green goblin will be the main villain but I am not sure if they can handle the dynamic between peter and norman. Cutting out stuff like Venom, possibly carnage and more Black Suit spider-man for mj to one shot many trained soldiers seems like a very bad move. If they needed a female/different perspective they should have used black cat for stealth missions. She can fight and make more sense for her to do it. She can even team up with mj and you could have mj wear a black cat tech suit to give her an edge as well.
Knowing them, they would make the interaction between Green Goblin and Spooderman somehow a one sided Gay villain obsession with spiderman. Just wtf levels of nonsense. These devs seem like they are toxic enough to do it, just to throw middle fingers at people who actually play games.
I’m going to be honest this was one of the very few games I was excited about for this year. But thank god I decided to wait for reviews. And all I gotta say is thank you griffin you save me $70. This game all it is a woke piece of shit that focus on all the wrong things. Even my cousin a die hard PlayStation guy and a Spider-Man fan hated what they did. He gave it a 6/10 being bias. If that doesn’t tell you something idk will. Me personally I’m little by little is moving away from gaming . I have a wife and family I need to take care of. I went from a hardcore gamer to the super casual gamer. Just give me cod on game pass and I’m happy.

I was so pissed off and uninterested while playing the majority of this game that I wanted to stop playing altogether. But I had paid (wasted) good money for it and so saw it through to the end. But my God it was a slog to get through.

Remember how the MCU started and where it is now. It will be harder because gaming is easier to access but eventually casuals will stop buying games for 70-80 dollars. It always the same story. Another problem that maybe is loosely tied to this problem is their inclusion of cindy moon in the last cutscene where she meets miles and his family, Now I don’t think this can work at all because balancing three protagonists is a hell of a job and they will probably drop the ball with either miles or Peter to give cindy more spotlight which could make the third game kinda depressing

Bitten by the same exact spider as Peter, on the same day, after Peter was bitten, and yet somehow got more powers than him)

I'd respect Insomniac more if they made a game dedicated to just playing as Mary Jane. That's them proving a point that they fully believe in women's empowerment, that she's not only a Damsel in distress but a strong independent woman. Of course, no one would buy it, not even the girl-gamers because EVERYONE LIKES TO PLAY AS SPIDERMAN. Moreover, everyone wants to play as the real SpiderMan - Peter Parker, and not some shoe-in for diversity quotas.
There wasn't two Spider-Men. There was one and Miles Morales. And Miles could have taken a hike too. This is the best Peter Parker we've gotten outside of the original comics and we have to keep getting pulled away to play woke boy sidekick. I'd take an extra three or four MJ missions if it meant no more Spider-Token.
Prototype 1 and 2 are on sale on the playstation store for like £3 each I highly recommend it for people who want an actual fun game for less than a quarter of the price of Spiderman 2 and it offers 10x the value imo Arkham games are under £10 too definitely worth trying only down side is Arkham city/asylum are only 30fps on console

All of this trainwreck has happened because the success of the first game really got right up to Insomniac's head, and they didn't care if the second game was terrible or not, because it would tons of sales and get praise online anyway.
I really liked the first game and was very excited at what they could do to add to the second game especially with Venom. This has really lowered my expectations.
Personally, I'm enjoying the game overall (gameplay wise, that is). However, the MJ missions I could have done without because they weren't any better this time around either. There were a couple of story missions that I thought went on a little too long, and definitely, the boss fights were WAY too long. But yeah, the first one and Miles Morales stories were better.
The only reason Insomniac made Mary Jane an OP 'superhero' is because their screenwriter is an SJW egotistical nutcase that wanted to insert 'herself' into the story and triumph over patriarchy that are Spider-men... Insomniac should just fire all the men from their studio, it'll be so much easier to work then, no arguments no second opinions, i bet great masterpieces would come out of 'only female' SJW teams that create games, cant wait for all the 'products' made in that asylum...

@@thewanderingartists it’s not me having to cope, I have no personal issue with either game (Robocop is objectively a bit shit though). I’m not the one whining about how everything is shit or woke now, like most of you nerds.
@@gmac673 yes it maybe objectively shit to Spiderman because of the sheer difference in budget, but the "gameplay" is obejectively fun that spiderbois, I feel like robocop I have that power and strength in the game, grabbing while in spiderbois I fight with fodder and I don't feel like "super human Spiderman" and MJ takes them down with one hit, and you don't have a spine that's why you all kiss that manly jaw (MJ) and we speak against it while you consume.

it's the Gearbox "Borderlands" situation all over again: Just bring out the 3rd game so I can finish the trilogy and never touch a game from this developer ever again.....
Spiderman 2018 almost got me to buy a ps4 back in the day. I'm glad that I held myself back and didn't buy it. Spiderman 2 is an insult to the fans of both Spiderman and PlayStation. Quite shad init.
He just openly admitted to pushing an agenda instead of creating more fun for the player. THEY KNOW people don't like these missions, and they literally do not care.
