It's the end of an era, Sony has confirmed this Summer you'll no longer be able to buy new games from the PlayStation Store on PS3, PS Vita, and PSP. That's pretty short notice unfortunately, but let's go over the details and more importantly: discuss what you might want to buy before the opportunity is gone forever. We can complain another video, but for now - let's get the facts out and let everyone know what's worth grabbing. The answer? Super Rub-a-Dub. Obviously. Maaaybe the PS1 Classics but also buy the rubber ducky game.

Sony doesn’t care about it’s own legacy, they rather keep making remakes of older games than support original classics. The PS Store should have been developed as only one store front for all their systems just like Steam is on PC.

I suspect that we will see much of this content wrapped into PSNow, I mean, I really dont see a reason to not do this since their games would be in some cases wholly inaccessible without it and since they want subs to PSNow this has got to be in the plans somehow.

@@MiamiSunrise PSNow is a horrible, laggy service. At this point I'm not spending a dime on anything Sony digital related anymore, games or movies. I don't want to support a corporation that doesn’t care about their consumers. Instead, I think it's much wiser to soft mod a PSP, download all the PSP and PSX ISOs you want for free and play them on original hardware. You can also hack a Vita and PS3 and do the same. Alternatively, emulation on PC is available for all those Sony systems. Nothing will be lost thanks to piracy that does much more for video game preservation than companies do. It's clear that Sony isn’t interested in their own legacy anymore like they did back with the PS3 having complete backwards compatibility with their previous two generations of consoles.

@@user-tk2vd7ut4v It's not unreasonable to think that will go away at some point too. At least the store actually generated some small revenue for Sony, keeping the download servers up only costs them so there's even less of an incentive to keep them up. It probably won't happen this or next year, but there's no way they'll keep them up for the next 10 or 20 years. And sure, piracy exists so hopefully no games will be lost entirely, but it just sucks that it will be the only option to experience some of these games in the future.

this here is the reason disc-based games are going nowhere. With downloadable games, there is always this threat of losing everything or not having access to your games. I know Sony is still letting us download the games we own, but I wouldn't be surprised if they prevent that some years down the line as well. Sony has made us all realize now that buying these disc-less consoles is equivalent to shooting yourself in the leg.

responding yup I hopping so too. All over Twitter everyone is showing their outrage. These games are everyone's childhood and will always be special. Just removing them from purchase is terrible. They wont lose a ton of money. They still make some money off the purchases on the store anyways. Big mistake if they do this. I'm so glad that when I bought my ps4 I only got disk games. One day the same thing will happen to ps4 if they do it to the ps3.

Yeah, PS2 PAL versions of P3 and and P4 are like 60-120 bucks here in Germany lmao. It'd be cheaper to buy a NTSC console plus the game. P4 Golden isn't that cheap physically either. I'm definitely prepared to spend some money on games that have fucked up prices physically :D

I don't understand why they are not allowing purchases. If I can redownload a title that's still on their servers, why can't I purchase them. A lot of things I haven't had time or money to purchase will just be locked away but someone else can download it from those same servers.

You also have to consider the payment procedures, sales, and all the other games to be avaliable at all time I don't really know much about that stuff, but it'd be a dumb decision for Sony to shut it down for no reason

For what I believe is because of a contractual way, let me explain. If you buy a game, sony its oblyed to give you warranty for an year. So this means that if they keep the purchase open they can never close the site entirely while someone is on that 1 year warranty, so what this leads is that sony plans to shut down the entire playstation network for psp, ps vita and ps3 1 year later after the last purchase its made and so this way by Ending the purchase of new content they can do that without breaking the law. Thats my theory, but obviously I don't have any way to prove it I might be wrong on my assumptions of course.

Probably the biggest thing to worry about are the digital-only games, as well as the games that are MUCH cheaper digitally as opposed to physical. For ps1 games make sure to check out the entire library on psn and grab what you want. Most are like $10 compared to $100+ for physical copies. If you have a vita and a ps3 make sure to check BOTH stores. While the vita has ps1 games it doesn’t have all the ps1 games that the ps3 store has, like Crash Bandicoot games and Spyro the dragon games. Some of those ps1 games, like the ones I mentioned, can be bought and played on a ps3 but can’t be downloaded to a vita. Other ps1 games can, like Klonoa and Tomba. Also, don’t rush out and buy everything this moment. While it is unlikely that there will be any final sales there is a chance it could happen. No need to spend more than you need to. We have time before the closure. Just make a list for now and set a reminder before the closures. Lastly, if you are going to buy a lot of stuff don’t buy everything at once. Buy in smaller batches of 2-5 games. Don’t add too many games to your cart and buy everything at once. It would be a shame if you overloaded the system and then couldn’t purchase anything before the closure, thereby missing out entirely. Just some helpful tips. Hope it helps.

The PSP and VITA closing is Anti-Consumer and sucks..but ps3 ? It's old, 2006 I think, everything has a beginning and an end, they're not going to support Ps3, ps4 and ps5... this is expected, anyone surprised by this is baffling...but since there isn't a new PSP alternative...THAT I think is stupid. Ps5 digital edition won't become obsolete till Ps7 comes out ( MOST likely ) based on their track record...which is more than fine.

Did it for the first time recently since the closure announcement. It's well worth doing just for the SD storage alone plus the ability to back up those games on your PC without DRM. I'm still willing to purchase a few games until the store closes, but I see no reason not to pirate once the store is gone.

Last summer I revisited the PS3 and bought a bunch of digital games. I had a lot of fun but eventually sold the console once I was done with it. In all honesty; I’m surprised Sony left the store up for as long as they did. I remember when the Wii shut down the store and the ability to redownload content.

I have 1,684 items on my download list for PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP, and PS Vita. While I still have the ability to access my purchases now, the store closing is just the beginning of the end. The next step is Sony closing access to my purchases eventually rendering a library of games across 5 generations gone in an instant. This infuriates me to no end because while I might not access this library all the time, I was hoping to be able to pass along access to my digital libraries across all generations and platforms to my daughter. But the likelihood of that now happening is starting to get smaller and smaller. This is a sad day indeed, and I can't believe everyone is just okay with it and simply saying "well it's inevitable". When, if anything, it should be in fact digital that lasts forever...

Same. I have hundreds of vita games. The download list is infuriating (long load, includes other systems, scrolling is jacked, sorting is jacked, and when you do dl one, it starts at the top again)... trying to dl say, a jrpg and 5 pieces of dlc that are 3/4 down the page takes forever. I hope they fix this somehow... at least the webstore used to solve this.

When I heard the news I unboxed my PS3 and began downloading games that I purchased in the past. I quickly came to realize how devastatingly slow the PS3 compared to PS4 and PS5. I've been fortunate enough to own a PS5 since launch and I have become accustomed to the snappy UI and lightning fast download speeds so I just can't bring myself to go back to the PS3. Hopefully the rumors of emulation coming to PS4 & PS5 are true and we can all enjoy our favorite older titles on current hardware. Thanks for another great video Ryan.

When purchasing or obtaining a game or DLC, download, then quickly cancel is a fast way to put a game or dlc on the download list. Also slightly slightly reduces the chances of PSN crashing vs downloading straight or preparing the file to download in the background.

MYSTIC PLEASE READ, I love your content and you have a good voice to address accessibility problems about ps5. I am a left handed player which is a big struggle for me and gaming. On both ps5 and ps4 you can rebind any button on your controller. For years I've been playing on ps4 with R2 and L2 swapped because i struggle with both aiming and shooting with my right hand. The ps5 adaptive triggers break this feature and make it impossible to play with L2 and R2 swapped on adaptive trigger compatible games. I don't want to turn them off because its the main reason I bought a ps5. Please please please 🙏 mention this in a few of your videos. I know it dosen't affect 90% of players but its a huge problem for me. Thankyou if you read this!!!!!

To be fair they are in the lead after PS4 but who knows how long the lead will last with all these reputation hits take. Ps5 was going to outsell the new Xbox the first couple years that was set in stone but dumb decisions could really help the Xbox destroy ps5 in the long run.

@@malazan6004 You can't look at it as raw units sold vs units sold. If someone uses game pass on pc and doesn't have a ps5 or xbox, that's another point for MS over Sony. If someone gets Game Pass Ultimate and only plays on their phone and doesn't have an xbox or a ps5, that's another point for MS over Sony. It takes 3 or 4 years for a console sale to be profitable but software sales make money on day 1.

This news pushed me to go pick up a used PS3 for cheap and download CVS2 and Twisted metal 2+(2012). For me Cacpcom va SNK 2 alone (consider an actual ps2 disc is easily $50+) is worth it for $9.99 on the store. Definitely need to scan through the store and pick up a few more gems (Daytona USA and Drakengard 3, I see u 😍)

@@KermitOnAMoped That's the point. A broken HDMI port isn't really fixable but all you need to do is order a new one. As long as no traces were ripped off the motherboard when it was damaged, a new HDMI port will get the console working like new. It's an easy fix for someone who knows how to solder.

How long do you guys think access to digital games will last? I know they aren't shutting that part down yet, but I'm curious.

Some of the PS3 exclusives were purely online games (could not be played offline) and they aren't available anymore because their game servers were shut down long ago. I'm talking particularly about a triad of free2play PS3 games released by BandaiNamco several years ago: Ace Combat Infinity, Tekken Revolution and Soul Calibur Lost Swords. These games were only playable online, and were shut down long ago, so don't bother looking for them.

I never play other than a demo but costume quest 1 & 2 are ones that I had plan on getting but never did. Dont know if they are on xbox but that two games I recommend.

Can you just clarify the situation with apps? Like if you delete the PS3 Netflix app can you still download that after the cut off date in July?

Can you earn singleplayer and more importantly multiplayer trophies for games that still have the multiplayer servers up, after the closure? And can you sync the trophies after ?

Just gonna type this so that slightly more people know about it. But there's a horror game called Siren: Blood Curse that (I think) is only available on the PS3 store. It's episodic and requires you to buy and download all the episodes to have access to the whole game. It's a very spine-chilling experience, very akin to games like Silent Hill. I'd get it before it's gone forever. There should be a bundle of all the episodes you can buy that will be cheaper than trying to buy all the episodes individually.

High velocity bowling has somehow been like one of me and my buddies go tos since it came out back in 07 or whatever. Still load it up every few months to this day. Crazy how much use we got and still get out of like a 15$ psn game.

I bought a game on the PlayStation Store a few years ago and although the store is not closed, they said we would still be able to play purchased games but I am unable too? Anyone know why? I just keep getting a message to renew my license but can't since I can no longer log in?
