+Joseph Ross (Modelking1000) It's actually a great way to accelerate your sweep learning. I'd go as far to say you won't be able to sweep pick at high tempos with clarity if you cannot hammer your way through the same pattern. People think the key is in the right hand - but that's just a strum motion. Most L + R coordination issues or sloppiness is actually the LH struggling to remain consistent WITH the RH.
@843andrew I half agree with you, the hits froms in waves (built to fall, black, watch the world burn etc.) sound alot like radio music, but when I listened to a skyline's severance, forsake not the dream and chaos reigns I felt that love for Trivium's anger and passion again, the album is pretty great I think, it just takes a few listens, like most Trivium songs
@MetalFanFX oh, kid. pull back now. I know you feel "mighty" on a cpu but the world is small & I travel a lot. Being quiet would serve you best in life, that is clear. Let's remember you're the one that decided to try to tell me what the "facts" are in this little deal. I didn't try to tell you how to get on your little yellow bus..now did I? Sh.
@bulletsk8r No they had like a three year contract with dean and it expired. Now Matt is with Les Paul and Cory is with jackson. Thats what the used to use back in ascendancy, now they are again
@ZxE73 Oh yeah I spelled it like an exorcism, whoops. Lol And anyway, he doesn't sweep very much anymore. That's not really an excuse. Besides, he isn't really sloppy at all here. He was just trying to show an exercise for improving your left hand's finger strength, he wasn't saying "CHECK OUT THIS MASTER SWEEPING TECHNIQUE." He rarely sweep picks at all anymore, as he said. Oh and don't call me kid tough guy.
If you're going to say something don't make yourself look like a fool by being prejudice. Many people appreciate the upload, there's nothing more inspiring than having a few guitar idols - also I think he's a good musician, but there's nothing more pathetic than people who have nothing but horrible things to say when others take their time to contribute something.
this is pretty basic actually not even using all six strings. i got 7-string sweep arpeggios down. 8-string still cant get. well anyhow LOVE the sound of the pattern Matt was playing
how can they be better? a sweep is a fucking sweep bro, THA tends to use them much more, doesnt make them better at it. Besides triviums a better band anyways
@Colton527 true so many people have attacked me...they are starting to sound like radio music--they lost their aggressiveness(although i do like soft songs too)
@Jakehatred666 well from wat i heard matt smashed his guitar on stage and dean guitars got really pissed at them so they roll with different brand guitars now
lame. i wanted to see corey play. looks like matt got a little better though i just hate the way he over complicates that 5 string minor and makes it look all dumb
This looks impossible to me... haha! I guess ill just have to practice for like... 800 hours and maybe ill be able to do something similarly close to this... lol!
While I agree with your opinion on sylosis, I have to say that thats where my agreeing with you ends. If you want to call Matt Heafy sloppy, go to one of the lessons from 2006 where his 5 string sweeping was actually a slopfest, rather than a pretty tight sweep. Ok so there was the odd off note but compared to how you're making it out to be. Wanna rip on a sloppy guitarist? Find a Kirk Hammett video. I only reply to your comments because what you pass for "trolling" amuses me somewhat.
Sweep picking turns me on. Too bad I can't do it yet! Also, In waves is a bit different, but it's a great album; though, it's only a stepping stone for them, I believe. Not as consistently likable as Shogun, but improvement was made. I fell in love with Inception of the End. XD
People need to watch this sweep video instead of his earlier when he didn't know the names of all his sweeps :P lol Plus his technique got so much better since that last video to.
I have the same problem with my sweeps, I don't practice them a lot because they're not really my thing but some tips I've had from people are 1.) Do NOT tense up your arm, let it be itself and don't strain it. 2.) Start slow and work your way up over time once you get both hand in sync, and 3.) Just relax, man. Not just your pick arm, but all of you; just chill and let your brain fill in the gaps.
