Me too, also I didn't know this was on the master system I have played the genesis and game gear version, but master system...Now I want to get it...wait It's was only release in Europe, goddamn it.

Y'know, sometimes, with how advanced video game specs have gotten, I forget just how different 16 bit is from 32 bit, and how big of a deal it was to all of us when things like the GBA came out when we were all used to the Game Boy, etc... I know the Master System Mean Bean Machine was a demake, but still, it really puts things in perspective--right down to the pixels and even the music.
It amazes me that this is such a faithful recreation on a handheld system of the original genesis version, right down to the gameplay, music, character expressions, everything! Only thing they removed was the cutscenes before each robot
It's cool that this is such a faithful port and all but golly gosh gee darn does it sound like it's playing some kinda 8-bit high school a capella rendition of the game's soundtrack.
That first one was a nice surprise. I was like "you have a 4-5 piece combo going, why do you keep stacking on top of it?" Then came the 12-chain combo.
This version looks more like the cartoon. It always bothered me how the genesis version was trying to make the aosth robotnick look intimidating, in this version he has more cartoonish expressions.
Mr. 喜び -san i still think the genesis version of the second robot is more acurate to the cartoon, i mean (bean), that's a big downgrade that he took from 16 bit to 8 bit
Hardware limitations might have prevented them from adding in their original AI. I noticed that Coconuts didn't do his usual strategy of slamming all of his pieces to the sides before filling in the middle.
Because people here in the comments played Tetris which calls it combos so when they see a other puzzle game they just call it "Combo" instead of "Chain"
Wow, I gotta say this I impressive. I think you're better than me, and I played this game WAY too much. You were very flexible, you did a great job of repurposing lost combos! I always found this version WAY harder than the Megadrive version. I beat the Megadrive version 6 times, I only beat this once, and it took a long time. I usually set up longer combos, but try too hard to stick of them, while I realise HO to repurpose them I get tunnel-visions and go for the bigger combos when in the end 1 black bean will always mess it up!
That aside, the Game Gear port of Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine is the only timed demo that is FULLY PLAYABLE to an extent. While, yes, you can only play for several minutes, it's easy to just swiftly stack beans up and quit the game (as opposed to the other demos, which would take quite a bit to lose, and Sonic 3's Level Select Code is the hardest classic Sonic code to enter.) and manipulate the password system.

Also, Compile made Mean Bean Machine too. It was how Sega chose to localize Puyo Puyo. If both Puyo and Mean Bean were released in the same country, then there'd be a problem. But they weren't (at least, not until the Sonic compilations).
One thing that triggers me is that this is the only Puyo Puyo game released on the Master System as the console flopped hard in Japan. And no, the Power Base Converter doesn't count.

The song "Sunset of Puyopuyo" wasn't in the Game Gear version of Puyo Puyo. Instead, the ending theme in the Game Gear version of Puyo Puyo is different. The 8-bit rendition of "Sunset of Puyopuyo" was repurposed for the Master System and Game Gear versions of Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. Memories of Puyopuyo is used for the password screen. Sticker of Puyopuyo is used for Exercise mode (16-bit version only). Final of Puyopuyo is used for the Vs. mode. Theme of Puyopuyo was remixed for the roll-call of the entire cast of the game.
Its entirely possible this version was made first and they made the changes to the Game Gear version because they has a little extra time before the deadline. There always seems to be subtle changes between Master system and Game Gear games.
This is the _MASTER SYSTEM_ not the Game Gear. I presume Master system is more powerful than Game Gear, but the add-on was made to play MS games on the go.
