The most basic way to trap an occurrence of an event is through a counter instruction which we’ve covered in the past. However, effective PLC troubleshooting may need to involve additional logic that would add a timestamp to the occurrence of the event. By doing so, the PLC programmer will know when a certain event has occurred and is able to raise other questions as needed.
