I was expecting this of you, hoping to hear your thoughts. I started playing Meta Knight right before MK Leo and Tweek started to try him again. I’m happy he’s starting to make waves. Edit: your intro was tough. It ended very abruptly though. If you decide to do an intro like that again, it’ll make me happy to see it settle on a satisfying and definite end Edit2: MK Leo isn’t a solo main, practiced Meta Knight so he doesn’t do most of the things a polished MK would do like plat cancels and optimized bridge routes. He makes up for that by having the best fundamentals a player could have. MK Leo and Tweek could be the answer; the best players for Meta Knight.
as a metaknight main that does all the mk main tech, i just dont like watching MkLeo's mk. It feels like a parody of how a regular MK main would play. Where as a regular MK main has hardly any skill points in neutral but puts majority of his skill points in advantage state and proper execution, I feel like Mkleo just plays a more neutral oriented version of MK and prioritizes slowly racking up damage in short trades as opposed to spam fishing for any sort of way to begin a ladder or extend advantage. If he ends up in a position to ladder, he does go for it, but he doesn't have nearly as many skill points in it as a regular mk main so it falls short at moments like these at 5:08 or 11:08. And on top of that, he doesn't even utilize down B. down B is broken when used right man. Its not as if im saying his playstyle is bad or as if im saying prioritizing micro execution is always better, but I just feel personally that MK overall isn't amazing at neutral to begin with. If you were gonna play a good neutral and slowly chip up damage by winning neutral over and over again until you get the kill, then you could play soooo many better characters for that (like Aegis or something). If anything, MK serves way better as a whiff punish character. A whiff punish character that leads to a disgustingly good advantage. In my humble opinion, MK is only great when he's in advantage (aka after a dash attack lands, or a down throw lands, or if he's edgeguarding); that's the position you should be aiming to be in at all times. This definitely doesn't mean spam dash attack every chance you get; That's not good. But definitely mix up timings, mix up dash attack cross ups, mix up running up and grabbing vs run up dash attack, stall to keep them guessing with the nair on platform-fall-through-fair thing, etc. etc. There's many ways to mix up timings. 17:04 is a perfect example; When I saw this, it felt like the first time he did something I felt like a true MK main would go for this whole set. 18:17 is another example of me thinking this was a MK main from the way he moved and the options he chose because after the bridge attempt he just kept advantage state up as long as he could which lead to him getting the kill.
I agree 17:04 was bonkers lol. I personally am enjoying Leo's MK since I want to somewhat improve my fundamentals but I agree that the MK tech could be better for sure.
2:00 leo didnt get the right kind of back air. The back air needs to barely not do a straight dragdown. When done correctly, there literally is no DI (at least in theory) that escapes datk unless youre a floatie
Yo Rocco! I heard your shoutout and it's all good; happy to donate to my favorite MK smash streamer! Glad to hear you are enjoying college and making new friends too. Keep it up with the great content. Btw: I liked your intro.
17:59 nahhh I call cap, I feel like the possibility of dying here should exist for sure. If that was a MK with 0 rage then yeah its not even a question if he lives that or not, but solely because he's past 100 is what makes this death more feasible. And that last upair he got there was crucial too.
Would you be down to cover more of MKleo’s sets? I’d love to hear your thoughts on his fight against the Min-mins (I forget their names but they’re the best min-mins)
leo played kinda boring. No condor dives or nado cancels or sexy capes. It was grands i guess but eh rocco still the goat at least from a spectator pov
