TL:DR - your videos have completely changed my methodology. all the tips n tricks videos that saturate youtube are snake oil for people trying to find an easy solution to a hard problem. keep up the great content. cheers i really appreciate your videos. out of all the informative "music making" videos i've watched, none have given me more insight and inspiration that yours have and for as long as i've been watching, i've noticed that my attitude, motivation, dedication and expectations have completely changed. for over 10 years i suffered with that mindset that you've referred to on numerous videos; the "what piece of gear do i need? what tip or trick do i need to learn? what thing do i need to do in order to avoid the work that needs to be done?" mentality. and that was it... that's what i was avoiding. i (and i assume many others) was trying to circumvent the process that needs to happen in order for me to create the thing i wish to create. it seems so obvious now, but like you've said, when we're bombarded with new gear, hardware, software, vsts, updates, effects, patches, tips, tricks, how-to's and how-donts, it's difficult to see that's not what's going to solve our problems, reopen the creative floodgates and allow us to effortlessly barf out a masterpiece. (honestly, i cannot recall a single piece of gear i've bought that magically allowed my creativity to re-flow - which is why i will now only buy gear when im having success in the studio and not when im at a roadblock). what i was failing to see, was that i wasnt putting put in the work. being 42 yrs old with a wife, kid and full time job, it was hard carving out what i felt was adequate time for myself and my music, but you said something a few videos ago that kickstarted me back into successful sessions; "putting in 20 minutes one day is nothing, but putting in 20 minutes everyday for a few months is fucking something" and thats what i did. i started putting in 20 min everyday... and just doing that for a few consecutive weeks and with the attitude that i have to put in the time, was life changing. i cut my drinking way down and replaced it with studio time and the effort is showing, i've already finished 2 tracks this month... i havent finished an actual track in over 8 years. are they great tracks? i dont know and i dont really care to be honest, i'm happy just creating again. youtube is saturated with videos and people that your video above parodies... its just distraction and noise for clicks. that's not to say there isnt good content out there (like people reading the fucking manual to you, lol) but honestly, i've gotten more out of someone (you) telling me that "a piece of gear, or the latest vst isnt going to solve the issue of me not putting in the time." i'm also willing to bet that barely anyone watches tips n tricks and gear reviews when theyre dripping with creative ideas and kicking ass in the studio ;) who the hell's going to watch that shit when youre having success doing the thing youre trying to do? i highly doubt bob ross was reading "Top 10 Tricks To Painting Kickass Landscapes" when he was cranking out beautiful paintings. anyways, i think your format and length of video is great. i look forward to them every week. thank you

Well said mate I wish I would have started my music channel back when YT wasn't so frustrating to get anywhere It has taken me 3 years to get to 381 subs and out of that only 50 ever comment or come back on a regular basis and the A.I is messed up I hear many creators are getting notifications 6 days late and some comments are even being deleted its weird. I most likely won't ever make to 1000 the way things are now I have over 61 original compositions on my channel and 3 months ago I went from 1000 views to only 100 in a week so something is wrong with the A.I Many big content creators I know are leaving YT because it just not fun anymore. YT makes money from my music videos and I get 31 people with a like that is it. It is very frustrating to say the least when you spend close to 26 hours mixing and mastering then another hour rendering a video and making sure you don't get hit with any ID claims or strikes due to some loser record label trying to pawn your music as there own I have had 2 original songs hit with an ID claim and my song was nothing like the record label that put the claim on me. They hit me up because of 1 single chord C7 that was all....now the last time I looked one chord is not copyrighted it takes a progression of 3-4 chords and a melody to make such a claim. I had to pull those 2 songs down because YT would not do anything you only get a bot to talk too its cold and theft right out of the digital box. I try to post good content 2 times a week when able and I never ask for money don't need it I have enough trust me. YT is not the same platform it once was sadly and I can see many creators fading into the dust bin of YT no mans land. That's my beef for today mate thank you for the great content and commentary well done and spot on keep it going cheers

Oh man, this needs to be a “How to launch a RU-vid career in 2022” tutorial. :). Seriously, though, it touches on one of my pet peeves. I specifically subscribe to YT premium to avoid ads, support creators, and yet I’m now bombarded by not so subtle ads I can’t skip. First world problem I guess. @@mredrollo Ugh, looks like YT deleted my last answer because I linked to a Google support URL. But yes, they pay the majority to creators based on user watch time, apparently, in a similar payout scheme to regular adverts. So the win/win proposition is you don’t see adverts, and the creator still gets paid. They consider it an additional revenue stream.

Haha finally someone who's poking fun at and pointing out a state of the current "music production culture" and/or "producer mentality"! Honestly, even at the beginning of my music creation path, when I, like many others, had to search for useful information on production to try and learn it from the ground up, I really hated the way most of these channels were presenting it whilst shoving endless useless products down our throats. Your channel is so refreshing, as I really resonate with your values and everything you say in your videos, so glad YT has recommended something useful for a change, as it's becoming more difficult to sift through all the bullshit noise! The price of stuff - usually ending with a '7' such as $37 and the phrases like "A value of $199 but for you it's $97 blah blah blah." Another great great talk and always refreshing. whilst i agree totally about what you'[re saying i also have to say that as long as you have discipline then there's an awful lot of good pro knowledge out there that can actually help. For instance, i watched an in depth tutorial by Baphometrix on the clip to zero method. This has changed the way i mix forever and gets me massive loud cyrstal clear well balanced mixes every time. It was like a college lecture. I think if you choose carefully the people you watch and can then put that into practise and not let it stop you prodcuing, but rather the opposite, then it's a good thing. I have gained a huge wealth of knowledge from some of the most decerning channels and then get staright into the daw and get on with it. It's about really learning something and then getting on with the work and there are some very good professional people out there with channels that a lot of knowledge can be gained from. It's making sure you pick the right ones. :-)

Didn't RU-vid update their T&C stating that they will place ads on videos, regardless of monetization? Or is that just for those of us under 1000 subs?
@mredrollo
@mredrollo 2 года назад
The partner program is something you apply for, but you don't have to do it. You'll need to clock up 1000 subs but also maintain 4000 watchable hours consistently throughout the year. I don't believe ads are place on all channels, only those who choose to add them. The guidelines and updates are forever changing so I may be wrong. For smalltime creators like myself 1000 views equals about $1.00 Not really worth all the BS of having to sit through ads to be honest. I'd much rather my audience has an ad free experience and doesn't get blasted with MIDI pack downloads before every video of mine telling them not to fall for the same shit thats being advertised! What a head f*ck! 😂

Your video chats are really thought provoking. Its an awkward thing for creators especially if just starting out. We don't have an income from a label or from record sales. Patreon as I understand it is a huge time investment and takes its cut of audience money, plus it gameifies the tier system, but even with a small subscriber base Ive got a couple of keen people asking for a Patreon. For the moment my entire offering is free - my audience appreciates it but ultimately RU-vid is the financial winner in that case. Is that a good outcome in the long run?
@mredrollo

I'm not shoulder deep into online stuff, nor a content creator at the moment, but I've had my thought about it. And for the same reasons you mention in this video I'm less than giddy about it. Now it's been over a decade with this video platform we watch your videos at and there are millions of content creators. What if a niche of all of those, like the "media production" tribe IYKWIMAITYD got together and spread the world that it's time for a roaring majority of those to go elsewhere and upload their stuff on another platform, run for other reasons than this one. Some companies are too large to notice, maybe, but it would be a great new start for content creators?

In short, your content deeply appeals to those select few of us that're actually "about that life", in short. We're obviously about the ups, but also more than willing to accept the downs. I strongly suspect (I could he wrong, hey), that the "influencer" tyoes are allergic to your message simply because it's brutal reality. Something that people who have no real interest in music/production are averse to. To them it's a cool fad for a bit, and the energy, loud noises flashing lights and "prosperity" gospel appeal to their fleeting attention spans. God bless, saint 👼🏼

I couldn't monetize my channel even if I wanted to - not enough subs, but then again I don't upload much and these days! (actually I don't upload at all) Basically my channel is still up only to write comments and to keep the one Buckethead interview video available, which continues to draw views and it seems to mean a lot to many! Now there are of course some real reasons, besides making money, why it might be beneficial to monetize your channel! For example RU-vid might decide to start to mess with a channel that is succesful, but doesn't make money for them. The algorithm could, in a case like that, shadow ban the channel and then not even the subscribers are notified of any new content!

haha this is total my way. I debunked and reacted recently to a bs short video speaking about frigian Mode in Mozart, as he were The Guy of this mode (...). They underrate who is watching . You may be interested in my recent podcast about CIRCUS in music, because it is exactly about this perverted framing of new musicians. I cant post here because it may not appear the comment to you

@@mredrollo Hahaha unfortunately quite a few of the makers I like (especially car related content) seem to feel the need to take their money. Here's a guy who went the other way and shit on them for 20 minutes - it's absolutely hilarious: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gLOAsWrE1uw.html&ab_channel=FactFiend-WithKarlSmallwood
