Just a note!!! Pledge works excellent for removing bugs from the front of your vehicle ,thats right!! just spray it on the front of your car and let it sit for a few minutes and then wipe it off. The bugs will come right off with a little bit of rubbing. It will not harm the paint or plastic grill either . Motorcycle riders use this on their bikes for a long time . Try it once and you will see .
Been using pledge on my tires since the early 90s. I started using it on my 89 TransAm and found it works way better then any of the marketed tire wet products. I still use it to this day.. I spray it on the tires and just leave it, and then spray it on again the next day. It lasts for a week. I also use it on all the black trim, and on the inside dash and center console of my Ford Escape.. Again works way better then marketed armor all and has a nice lemon new car smell to it.. After having my Escspe for 2 years, I took it to the dealership for a small repair and they couldn’t believe how immaculate my truck looked! So I would say Yes I recommend it for professional detailing!
My grandmother used to Lemon Pledge her 1969 Oldsmobile. It looked showroom new 15 years later! Baby oil works great on trim and tires and works in most spray bottles.
It also works great in taking bug excretions off of small aircraft(aka "bug smashers") cowling and windscreen! Works on my MGB as well. Keep the vids coming...I've really learned alot.
I bought a 1980 ford short box step-side. It had beautiful black paint job, the paint looked like it was a inch thick. I could not get it to really look show room quality. So i went to a car show and i asked a guy that had his car there, how do you keep your car so nice. He told me i'll tell you a little secret, we use dust free pledge on everything, windows inside and out, all the car, including the tires. I could not believe how nice my pickup looked inside and out. Everybody asked me how do you keep your pickup looking like it just came off the show room. I'd tell them, Dust Free Pledge, they'd lol
I used to pledge my car..people always asked how my car stayed Soo shiny and the paint was so smooth you would literally fall off my hood if you sat on it..that will do wonders for shine&protecting your car paint
Earl e*z*e*. You used it on your paint?? I use a detailer, but never heard of using a furniture polish. So, maybe I will try it if it doesn't ruin the pain!
I let it sit while I spray all the others then wipe. Clean, black satin semi gloss shine no dust worries and nowhere near as greasy as black magic or armour all or whatever. Love it for my daily driver an
I found some lemon Pledge around the shoppe and used it on a Volkswagen, it looked excellent. Not overly shiny, just gave it a nice look that wouldn't sling off; gotta go get some more.
When I was 18 I used to use my mom's cooking oil .ha she went to make fried ooooo she was mad work ed for a day ha ....I miss the 70s I will try this great job thanks
LOL Scott you don’t miss a thing! I’m not a pro detailer I just keep my cars, motorcycles and bicycles impeccable - it’s a Zen thing for me. I’ve been using Great Value furniture polish for years, it works better than Pledge (which has more water content) and is ridiculously cheap. I thought this was my little secret but Scotty, you’re on top of it! You are “The Car Whisperer”. Love your videos.
Do NOT use a rag to rub that in...The rag wipes it off and is absorbent, so all you do is take the stuff off into the rag! Use a SPONGE or a BRUSH which will allow the stuff NOT to be wiped off the tire.
"PAM" vegetable spray works pretty good on tires as well and makes the tire smell like butter. I use that on my leather seats too but it makes you slide all around when cornering...Drives my wife crazy because I only use it on her seat and she smells like better and slides all over the car when we go for a drive tee, he, he, he!
I was about to buy tire shine last week but I’ll try this this weekend when I wash my car. Still have a bunch of pledge laying around so might as well put them to use.
This is great vs paying $5 or $6 sometimes even $10 for a tire shine product that never fully “dries” and is very greasy and picks up a lot of dirt. I think I’m gonna try this out on a couple of cars Scott
I was literally thinking of trying this and this vid popped up. Kind of creepy. I had a heck of a time cleaning up tires that had been repeated juiced with greasy mucky products. I avoid tire shine products because they're too hard to clean up. I'll go with this and welcome a nice soft matte finish. But I think real Pledge has beeswax in it.
Stay away from the tire tread. It's better to stay a little bit away from the tread, than to get a little on the tread. You don't want to lose traction/friction and go sliding around on the road to make your tires nicer.
Scott - I checked out the folloe=wing video but I don't see the one you said you were doing to show what you do use pledge on - what do you use it for ( besides showing the tires here) THANKS
My DTS has brand new Vogue Tire Mark 8’s and I hate how slimy and dirty the white wall & yellow strip get with Armor All/Meguire’s tire gel/ etc....Imma try this and hopefully works!
Also want to mention I don't find to really be any cheaper using Pledge. I can get a good Water Based Dressing from CarKem for like $15 per gallon and can dilute 1:1 for a less shiny look. The Furniture Polish I bought was $2 for 9.7oz.
my point was the pledge is actually better if your just buying stuff like armor all or black magic and its all greasy and slings all over the paint, so if you didn't want to by pro products (and i paid a dollar for the can in the video)this would be far better than armor all:)...but god no i don't use it professionally ...pledge or armor all:)
People !!!! Mix your own tire dressing if you demand the very best.... take 3 parts of Murphy's Oil Soap,,,, one part of liquified Spam (in a blender for 2 or 3 minutes), two parts of Crisco, one ounce of baby oil, and add in 4 or 5 ounces of Extra Virgins Olive Oil ,,,, and a dash of goats milk....Mix well....shake and bake for 3 hours on oven setting of 425, and Y O O H O O O O O O !! Best tire crap ever !!! There's no swelling if you add in 2 or 3 swats of Preparation H. >>> Bonus : If constipated, drink 3 or 4 ounces after consuming your largest meal you ever shucked.... you can blow your own doors off !!!! :)
Clean your tires first with SIMPLE GREEN also take lemon pledge spray some on half of a nice clean cotton towel Pat the towel together and wipe over your cars paint finish

The tyre was already clean. Its not gna make it shine... it's more about keeping it black.. he literally says this in the video.. he never said its shiny
i love you Jonnie:)...all pledge is-water,silicone,and naphtha...so many over the counter tire shines are the same but twice the money..lol...no i don't use it as a pro but its a cool tip that works:)
I did some research and found that the aerosol spray version of Old English furniture polish is basically water, silicone, silicone oil, mineral oil, petroleum distillates, and fragrance. Sounds like the making of a good tire shine to me (and interior detailer too)
My main concern about using pledge or similar is the fact it has Naptha in it. That's a key component in jet fuel, plus the Butane etc. Longer term use will cause tyre (sorry, English spelling) surface degradation in the form of surface crazing (cracking). Yes, I know tyres do that overtime anyway but like any spirit based product applied to rubber, it will cause the crazing to happen much faster. Other than that it looks great and what a nice video. Oh, I'm a keen motorcycle detailer. Maybe a point of interest, using pledge on plastic surfaces on some bikes even causes the surface to craze eg on the surface of some motorcycle headlight lenses which have a plexiglass makeup. Not saying that it's not safe on the dash of cars though, but it does show how powerful the spirit side of it is. Anyhow just my experience with it.
what about Naptha on the paint of the car (clear coat)...do you think it could hurt the clear coat which is a form of plastic?...most waxes and sealants are filled with Naptha and yet we wipe it all over most surfaces of the vehicle...my point is that Naptha is just about in all detailing products including high end pro products...hmmmmmm
Dallas Paint Correction & Auto Detailing - hi again. Yes some paint treatments/polishes have naptha in them or some other spirit. This is to make the product spread more easily and to stop the product from solidifying in it's container. It also serves some other functions. It evaporates of course as the product sets on the paint so exposure time is minimal. However, clear coat is resistant to naptha, petrol etc unless it is continually soaked in it. Rubber is not (not to be confused with neoprene, which is resistant). Essentially, anything with a spirit in it is harmful to rubber and that is a well known fact. Using Pledge in this way won't cause your tyres to exhibit damage overnight however. But degradation of the tyre wall is accelerated. Black boot polish has the same effect due to the spirit in it.
