Join me in Merriwa NSW as I paint the Merriwa River Plein Air. This day was challenging as my painting got damaged.... but I've managed to fix it now so am very happy with the final result. Thanks for watching, please be sure to give it a like and subscribe to my channel and feel free to drop a comment.

What a beautiful painting. Love the clouds and shadows especially. If the wind blew it face down it could have been a lot worse. Great damage control it’s one of your best maestro !

@@hamishmorgan100 thanks Hamish 😊 yes, thankfully it didn't go face down cause it was pretty secure in the easel. I was a bit sad at the time but I tried my best to keep it together and fix it later. Thank you Hamish, I'm pretty happy with the finished product 😊

Well done Kate, it turned out okay. You could probably see more damage than we could, it's only when the camera is up close we could see anything. We have all had days when things went wrong but you are amongst friends here. Well done, in the end it was fabulous. 😁🎨🖌️🖌️🖌️

Kate , I love watching your videos, and I love your enthusiasm. I did have a question I was wondering if you put gesso on the board before you paint. Keep painting, luv your work.

@@scotthaynes5419 hi Scott 😊 thank you 😊 no I use the linseed oil to seal the wood it also works nicely with the oil paint however recently I have taken to using house paint to prime the boards 😊

Kate, what do you think about this poem about your painting: Ode to Kate Bonnie’s Merriwa Adventure In Merriwa’s air, with brush in hand, Kate painted the river, the view so grand. With willows and shadows, birds chirping away, The perfect plein air kind of day. But oh! The wind had other plans, It tossed her painting, disrupted her stance. A splash of solvent, a canvas marred, Yet Kate, the trooper, wasn’t scarred! With grace and skill, she made it right, Her damaged painting back in sight. "Great save!" the viewers cheered with glee, “You fixed it up so perfectly!” From clouds to shadows, her work admired, “Your trees are magic, so inspired!” "Bravo, maestro!" the comments chimed, Each word a testament to her time. Seven hours outside, what dedication, Even through a near devastation. But Kate kept on, with paint and heart, A masterpiece, a work of art. So here's to Kate, who braved the day, And turned mishaps into bright display. With every brushstroke, you soar so high, Your art, Kate Bonnie, will never die!

Another great painting and vlog. You spent seven hours outside! jeez your a trooper! You saved the painting though and it turned out wonderful, I love the trees you paint and the shadows make them pop even more. Never painted with oils outside 😅 but would love to. 💜🖌️🎨

@@zoewhiteart7676 thank you Zoe 😊 I love getting outdoors, hahaha I was looking a bit tanned by the end of the painting though I noticed when I was trying to blend the paint using my hand before I realised it was coming off the painting. Thank you so much 😊 I really just felt like going to my car and crying but I promised myself I'd fix it when I reached home and just not think about it until then. Oh yes I am so happy with the trees and their shadows. I do love the level of contrast you can achieve with oils, however they like all mediums have their drawbacks (they are heavy to carry around, take a long time to dry and are expensive compared with other mediums). Definitely worth giving a try, I'm sure you would do great with them you're a really good artist, you are so amazing at watercolour, I'm hopeless at those.

Does it feel a little like you're sabotaging your work when you have to cover up a background with foreground trees and things? I would think that would be hard. You're so talented.

@@clex2005 no not at all, because if I don't put the details it may not end up looking real, because sometimes you just don't know what will and won't be visible 😊 thank you so much 😊

Wow, Kate, you did a miraculous save on your wonderful painting. I know how disheartening that moment the wind sent things flying probably was for you. And that your solvent, etc. was pouring out into the ground…I think I might have cried at that moment! Anyway, I want to commend you for keeping it together and successfully touching up your really amazing painting. All of your paintings wow me. Many of my watercolor paintings do not turn out as I hope. Some turn out great..which keeps me painting.😊 I wanted to mention that an artist painting demonstration I saw once said all of his paintings are inspired by shadows…many times shadows of ordinary things or views. I just wanted to share that when you were talking about the shadows of your trees and how you have not used shadows enough in your paintings.😊 I hope you have a great day and since you have already experienced your “almost disaster” for the year you won’t have to have any more. 🤞🤞🤞😊

@user-zi8qi9ip2g awww thanks Nancy 🥰 yeah it was not the easiest to keep it together I really did feel like crying in that moment but I pushed through as best I could. Thank you 😊 water colour is very difficult though, so I'm sure you must be a good artist to manage watercolour! Yes, shadows really make a big difference! Sometimes I'm out painting so long the light and shadows are in the opposite direction by the time I finish 😂 haha I hope you are right about the almost disaster meaning no more for the year 😂 hope you have a great day too! Thanks for your comment 😊

i liked the clouds a lot, too bad you covered them with poplars :) they looked rly nice, specialy the one on the most foreground (closest to horizon). If you want to watch some tutorials on how to pain clouds then i recommend wholeheartedly a yt channel called Painting Skies. There a dutch painter who specialisies in sky/sea scapes explains some techniques. Rly good stuff and it may be handy for painting on boards. ;)
