The weather is getting cooler and the days shorter but there is still plenty coming from the vegetable garden. In today's video we get a bit of harvesting down as well as take a look around at how the garden is growing and also take a look what needs to be done!

Wonderful harvest Linda, most of my veggies have come from self seeding themselves this autumn. I haven't been too well for weeks now and was worrying if I could get my carrot bed sorted but I had spread the seeds from the many carrot flowers all over the bed. Then when the time was right they germinated, yayyy so because the birds were digging them up, I've now covered them with a large sheet of shadecloth. Looks like we'll be enjoying fresh carrots, kale, beets, purple sprouting broccoli, silverbeet, and collards, all self seeded.🙃😉😊

Oh how easy was that - good permaculture gardens can just keep themselves going!! I’ve had a similar experience with carrots germinating. I piled up heaps of weeding carrot plants planning to send it off to the compost but it never got there. Now in that spot are thousands of little carrot plants. Will be interesting to see if I get any decent carrots! Hope you are feeling better now!

Great pumpkin harvest Linda🙌🏼 We’re still getting them too, and after dying off, some are even growing back and producing more pumpkins!! Zucchini’s are done for us, but still getting eggplants.. Hope your honey stand is doing well 💕 xx Cathi xx 😘

The honey stand is doing ok - a few sales here and there. You’ve reminded me that I haven’t added to the road stall website yet 😬. Better do that - thanks! Have a great week!! Xx

Here in southeastern USA, it is late spring. I planted my onion slips in mid-November and harvested most of them this past week. I am growing artichokes for the first time and the larger plant has 3 fruits developing. My beans are blooming and I expect to pick some in the next several days. I enjoyed seeing your beautiful harvest, Linda and would love to see how you use your winter squash in the kitchen.

An onion harvest how exciting & so nice to hear your artichokes are blooming!! Good meals ahead for you Sue!! I still have my big 13kg pumpkin (squash) - will have to get that to the kitchen & turn it into something (be sure to take you with me) Enjoy your week 😊

We have had the first frost and will be sorting when it's warm enough to go out. Plenty of self sown brassicas, might just leave them be. Love that your harvests are still happening. =-)

Hi Lorraine - I've had a couple of light frosts here too but they haven't reached the veggie patch so far. Love the self sown brassicas for the chicken food they create. Have a fantastic week!!

The little pumpkins are so much more manageable than the huge pumpkins i've yet to cut into haha. Yes happy chook sounds brings joy to my heart 🥰

My eggplants are just starting to produce 🤦‍♀️ But Wow! An abundance of pumpkins 🎃 yum. I'm glad you mentioned frosts. i'm sure we get them here, but i've never had frosts, so I will need to look into that. I've worked out i need to protect every seedling while they're small to avoid slaters getting them all, cant wait to get chooks to help the slaters issue. Chooks look like they're having a ball 😂

OOh slaters and seedlings - not a great combo but chooks and seedlings are not so great either. Best have the chooks clear the area first then plant out. Good luck with the frost - they vary each year and keep you on your toes!!

@@huttonsvalleypermaculture Actually I watched this while enjoying Twinings tea in my warm bed with poached free range eggs, toast and home grown apricot jam! My Pekin ducks have begun laying, which is great when the hens are having a prolonged holiday. This week's excitement was the arrival of a jersey heifer and her chubby Angus cross calf. I haven't had a cow for far too long! Those clumps of manure are wonderful. I'm hopeful of making lots of butter, ghee and cheese when the calf isn't so greedy. I'm harvesting my Glass Gem corn just now. The cobs are small, but up to ten per plant! The array of colours is astonishing. So pretty! I can hardly believe I grew these! I won't have enough to grind for tortillas this year, but there'll be plenty for popcorn and next year's seed. I just won't even mention how jealous I am of your pumpkin and pepper harvests ...

What an amazing garden you have! I am trying to establish a veggie patch on our property in the Adelaide Hills.... We had aterrible bush fire through 4 years ago. Unfortunately the soil was badly burned. Your video was very inspiring.

Hi Jackie - thanks for watching!! Lots of organic material, compost and even compost tea to bring back the soil life might accelerate the healing of your damaged soil. You do see nature growing plants in the cracks of concrete or on rocky cliff walls so at least we know its possible to get things growing what ever we start with. I wish you lots of good luck with your garden - I'm sure it will be nourishing you well soon!
