My great-great-great grandfather emigrated from Wales to the USA sometime before 1820, and because of my genealogical research I've become more and more aware of the beautiful music that has sprung forth from his homeland. This song is one of my favorites. Thank you Grandfather Morgan Morgans. I hope someday to unravel the mystery surrounding his murder aboard a ship during a return voyage he made to settle a family matter in Wales. His bones may rest neath the Atlantic, but I won't forget him.
It is such a pleasure to see them, I have a tape, Rhown garreg ar garreg, I used to play it all the time, this is such an great trio to listen to, so odd hearing them after 25 years, Diolch yn fawr! wish my Welsh was better so I wouldnt miss so much of the words.
@Edotter : I also have a Plethyn tape with quite a few songs (remembering the titles is hard but things like Dwn y Ol), it's not something I can get my hands on immediately but if you read this and you're interested I could digitize it (which I ought to do anyway) and send them to you within a month or two.
Mi gwrddais i Linda Healy yngh Nghwm Pennant yn ystod yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol ymh Mhorthmadog ym 1987. Ond ar ol yfed gormod o gwrw gyda'i gwr Euros, roeddwn i yn rhy feddw i gofio beth canodd hi!
Hi - Don't know if you'll get this or not - I hope so - there is all kinds of Welsh music available on iTunes - just go to the iTunes store. Search for Plethyn or Crasdant and enjoy. I've bought several albums and made CD's of them - beautiful.
What a beautiful tune! And please don't let your language die. It is one of the very few that can be honestly connected to the ancient past! Cherish your heritage, and preserve it. Use it or lose it, your descendants will someday thank you.
@Edotter I can send you some music (via e-mail) if you want. Only have 2 Plethyn songs though (but no Ar Log). Seidir ddoe I have (the mp3 taken from the above video).
The music sounds like something you'd hear from a bush band in Australia, but I keep hearing Gaeic words! I think I'm going crazy... the languages aren't that close.
I've been looking for the lyrics to this and other Welsh songs. Google has been slightly less than unhelpful. I feel like I'm tripping over lyrics for Irish Gaelic songs, but Welsh...not so much. Am I just not looking hard enough?
