** If You Just Want to See the Plow Day Video Skip Ahead to 2:51 **
Is my Farm a Dream or a Pipe Dream? Things haven't quite panned out they way that my dreams were when the farm started. Of course that isn't that surprising because I was/am a beginning ... things never go as they are planned ... and dreams change over time. But, the biggest thing is that I'm not sure if the farm is where it needs to be, or if I'm capable of getting it there.

Love the footage of the vintage tractors plowing! Keep your dream alive, you'll get there one day, you have God on your side!

I love seeing the old tractors. Thanks for sharing. I've been farming part-time since 2010 & full-time for 4 years on Nov 17th. This year has been brutally hard on us. I've asked myself should I be doing this. But I keep saying, "God isn't going to bring it this far (we, as well, started with only a dream) and leave us." I want to encourage you with Zechariah 4:10a. That's our farm verse. I love seeing the progress and hearing your stories. Keep it up!!

Great video of the tractors working. You are at a level of success that aspire to achieve. I think it is helpful to question yourself, your goals, and where you are. Just not good if that is all you do. God has a plan.

I'm was pretty sure that I wasn't the only one. Sometimes I'm trying to figure out if I am headed the right direction ... if I'm building something for the future ... or if I'm working in circles. Pressing on though! Thanks for watching and taking time to comment!

I believe if your going to have a farm then it should pay its own way plus a salary or two. Thats a tuff call, some people belive that they have to get big and it appears that they are making it, but in reality it's a ball and chain around thier neck. I also work off farm hauling milk one or two days a week. But that allows me to role all of the farm income back into it and been doing that for 6 years now. No I'm not big and fancy and drive a new truck, but I don't have any debt and what I have is paid for. Your call, its all in how well you can sleep at night.

I think that's probably the best way to describe what we've done ... rolling most of the farm income back into the farm. Now we are working to figure out what's next ... at least I think that's wha I'm tryin to figure out ;) Thanks so much for taking time to share you thoughts! It is great to hear from so many.

You are right that is pretty much the case. I'm thankful for the few farmers in my area that provide me with an example of being able to do something different ... I'm try to figure out how best to do my "something different" if that makes sense. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment ... I can't tell you how awesome it is to read the comments and have people join in the conversation!

What is the definition of success? From an outside perspective, it appears to me that many farmers in small town WI are up to their ears in debt, while driving huge half million $ tractors, have nice $400k+ homes, and driving newer, expensive trucks. If debt is fueling most of that, that is not success. That is a facade. I have asked online in various discussions about how much government subsidy money is involved, and of course nobody wants to reveal their hand. I have kin who partners with his dad, and they built a 2 million dollar milking parlor. Is the govt / taxpayer money footing most of that, or are farmer's just resigned to being deep in debt their entire life knowing they will take it to their grave? I don't mean to bash on small farmers. BIG AG put the squeeze on the traditional small farm family business model long ago, and it's a wonder any still remain. I'm just trying to figure out how the math shakes out, because the numbers don't seem to add up. Look back on your early videos, and remind yourself how far you have come from an empty plot of land. And try not to compare your standing with others. I struggle with that as well. That's the devil trying to use our pride against us.

Yes, the large farms and their finances are in a whole different world! I don't compare myself to them, and I don't understand them ... some of it is generational, in that a farm has been built up over generations and that because of it's size it can handle a debt load for expansion. But, even then we really are talking real dollars because there probably is some truth to the fact that most consumers aren't paying the real cost of the food they eat. We have come far, and I am surly thankful for that! I think I'm at a point now though where I know enough to see what I'm not hitting the bar on and am struggling to get there. Either way ... we're thankful for what we have! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to share so much!
