Building a network almost always isn't fun. Here you can see me go through the various stages of grief, fun, regret, remorse and profanity.
Splicing in a new PON 1:32
Plowing in 500ft of conduit with Kirk
Pulling 15,000 of fiber in 3 days 89 degrees and 97% humidity
Hope everyone enjoys the bad with the good.

I love plowing cable in where we can. Unfortunately a lot of our stuff is going into apartment complexes or gated communities where we just can't. The little hydraulic drill that mounts onto our Torro Dingo is an absolute lifesaver for those jobs though.

Our plow has that too but we never really had much success with it. We sometimes use a garden hose attached to a conduit it can allow you to push 20-30ft in most conditions.

$65 for 500/500 seems to be the market rate around here are the prices a lot higher in your area due to the peninsula?

$90 you can get DOCSIS 2.X 250Mb\15Mb and also can get DOCSIS 3.X 1Gb\30Mb in cable areas, but just 3 miles away you can get DSL 3Mb\* and fixed wireless in some areas for $165. So it's a product that doesn't exist 1G\10G speeds has never been an option.

lol😂 and you’ve been wondering why your jacket is melted to the sheath making it difficult to remove.
@briceperdue7587
@briceperdue7587 2 месяца назад
I have actually found a interesting trick with the cable if I find this 1 point I can remove the metal and jacket at the same time. I still think they added the outside jacket to fast or something
@reddirtcomm
@reddirtcomm 2 месяца назад
@@briceperdue7587 yes that is the ideal way to remove the jacket & sheath together. Usually the main reason they are melted together is due to the placing technique. The heat that’s being generated from pulling thru multiple boxes and especially using the tracks on the excavator. I’m sure you’re exceeding the radial bend as well as the rated tensile pull force on the cable.

I am confused, DSL runs on copper, not fiber.

DSL is what a lot of these folks rely on for internet access.

@briceperdue7587 I understand, I worked for Verizon for 22 years and installed & repaired DSL. The post was about fiber spicing.

@@williammcgahan1820 Not sure exactly what your getting at 100% DSL runs on copper. We are a CLEC that doesn't deploy copper and runs completely facilities based without telco wireline services. I was only comparing how GPON vs DSL is a crazy upgrade and the most economical in a dual overbuild of the traditional telco and the cable company.

@@briceperdue7587 New York State ... Westchester County. Just a little bit out of your neck of the woods, I think. I'm a data center professional and have built out lots of infrastructure -- BGP, OSPF, overlay/underlay, MPLS, the works. I'd geek out with you on the Simple Fiber network just for fun. And if I were in your service area I'll bet I could get a totally pimped out connection at home with BGP and static IP and all sorts of fun stuff. Oh well. At least I have fiber, even if it's from one of the big guys.
